the yellowing from that kind of laquer does it happen over a few years or does it take a good number of years bfore it starts giving the yellow color MzI

right now the front edge of the heel is 5/8" im sure i could take a lil off and be ok im just affraid that if i sand off too much there will be too much pressure from the strings and make the guitar not playable ill be sure to take a ride to my local shop and check out some of the heels on the guitars they have there, i do have a picture of a bolt on dinky or soloisnt mayb but it looks as if there might be atleast 1/8" taken off from the level of the back of the guitar ill see what i can find tho thanx for the info MzI

i was just looking at the tutorial on converting a rg neck joint profile to the jem profile, my question is how much does the thickness of that part of the wood affect the joint? to me it seems like the more wood you have there the strong it is going to be, but at what point when you start to make it thinner is it not strong enough any more? i am thinking about doin a similar profiling to my esp explorer because the heel is just too damn big and is uncomfortable to play MzI

actually you can play a v sitting down you put the lower wing between your legs its actually the classical way of playing sorta i guess haha, i find it much easier to play my v siting down then my explorer, the other good thing bout v's is they are much lighter then explorers MzI

glueing together multiple pieces of different kinds of wood will affect the tone, as far as sustain goes im pretty sure that depends on the quality of the neck joint, a good bolt on joint should have as much sustain as a good neck thru or so i have heard MzI

personally i would stick to hardwoods for solid bodies cedar and fir if im not mistaken are soft woods and are gonna b more likey to be damaged and dented etc, for acoutics i kno cedar is used for the tops. MzI

that 8080 would that be the head version the vs100h if so im havin problems with mine, im also havin problems with my mg15rcd practice amp where it fuzzes in and out on both channels, ive had enough with marshalls to the point where im gonna get rid of both of em and just get a mesa MzI

2 pieces works good glue em side by side to make one big piece, sum guitars have 4 two back 2 front like an lp, how many pieces you make it out of depends on the wood available to ya, theres always ebay if you cant find wood locally, as for price it depends on the kind of wood and the quality of it MzI

the 3rd picture in that gallery??? if so i used that on the strat copy i made with the natural binding that still isnt done its gettin there tho gettin set up right now, im prolly gonna make my 59 V and a sg outta that cuz i think i can squeeze by with enough for those 2 tops in wuts left MzI

what woods work best with oil finishes, i know some woods need to be hard coated like mahogany MzI

thanx, i would think atleast 3 with a lil extra to spare mayb enough for some headstocks well see gonna let it dry for a while MzI

sorry bout that read it too quickly, ive seen some gibsons that have up to a 17 degree headstock angle, you should check out the gibson website all of the headstock angles should be on there if im not mistaken MzI

will those tops warp at all from the time you resaw em till u put em on your guitars or is there something special you do to them MzI

it depends on the type of bridge you use. trems for the most part dont need an angle, toms do usually 2 -- 3 degrees MzI

the thickness sander if im not mistaken is a ryobi (sp) i also have a dewalt thickness planer hidden not in any of the pictures, it is quite cozy and comfortable to work down there only problem is cuz im an arch major at college my work time is usually late at night when the parents are asleep which is not good when i wanna use loud tools, yes most of the tools are my dads and some are even his dads but they still work damn good, some of the newer tools from within the last yr or 2 are the grizzley bandsaw, the chop saw, spindel sander, dust collection system, and the thickness sander but i got that from my uncle i guess the wood working just kinda runs in the family works good for my so i wont hafta buy as many tools MzI

heres 2 pictures of my neck blank that i glued up today neck blank close up its ended up being a 5 piece black walnut blank ill take some more pictures in a couple days when i take the clamps off and cut it down so its usable MzI

is was easier to match em up cuz i bought wood that wasnt wide enough, it would have been a pain findin really wide pieces of mahogany really straight grained like i got unles i were to go on ebay i glued my 5 piece neck up a lil while ago so once i find some batteries for my camera ill take sum pics and post em MzI

Im starting to measure out my neck, its gonna b a 24 3/4, 24 fret neck how far past the 24th fret should i extend the fret board MzI
