  1. daveq, i think they were meaning that they use it for the necks and not the fretboads cuz i got that description from the neck description area im prolly not gonna start the project til summer because im at school away from home so ill prolly do sum more research and see what my dad has to say about the structural advantages of puttin it quartersawn or regular MzI
  2. heres what they said bout walnut for necks: Walnut (Juglans nigra) Walnut is the only North American dark wood. It is somewhat softer than maple though stiffer than mahogany. Looks and sounds good when combined with ebony fingerboards. This wood must be hard finished. Used for necks only for bodies heres wut they had to say: Walnut (Juglans nigra): Walnut is a heavy weight wood, but not quite as heavy as hard maple. It has a similar sound to hard maple but it tends not to be as bright. Walnut is very beautiful with open grain. Oil finishes work great on Walnut. MzI
  3. would goin quartersawn with the walnut for the neck make a difference
  4. the warmoth side said they do walnut necks and they recommend ebony with em MzI
  5. I have a large stockpile of black walnut that i have free reign of, my thinkin was i have a slab of mahogany for the back, and i was thinkin of mayb doin a walnut top with walnut for a neck thru with a rosewood finger board, i checked out warmoth to see what they had to say about walnut and it said it was inbetween walnut and mahogany hardness wise and similar to maple tone wise, ne one have ne thoughts or comments bout black walnut or this setup MzI
  6. wood harderner will harden your maple top, it may also distort the color so i would try it on a scrap piece bfore you go wiping it on your top, as far as grain filler goes you dont need it for maple usually its on mahogany and a few others to fill the openness of the grain for when you paint it the wood doesnt soak up alot of finish, sanding sealer im not sure on ive never used it just always try anything you do on scrap first MzI
  7. they do sell the saddles with grooves already cut in them, y they dont put them on in the first place is beyond me prolly just another way for them to get more money. i have a gibson nashville tom and the strings i play are startin to cut a groove in the saddles on there own and i dont brake that many strings MzI

  10. id hafta say that even tho i usually dont like bases the shape of that one is damn cool, did u design it yourself or are u copyin one uve seen bfore, i also like the headstock design but imho, from a design standpoint it needs a lil more to like totally mend with the body mayb take a step back and take another look just my thoughts but it does look quite nice cant wait to see it when its done and made of hardwoods MzI
  11. i do prefer to play the v standing up, id say mine does have sum attitude black paint job hot rod flames emg 81 60 setup MzI
  12. i have no trouble playin my gibson v, i play it classical style, my complaint about the V's i have is the heel, and the input jack placement, i like the input jack on the upper wing, and the heel is much better on the 59 style MzI
  13. it looks good so far, my only thoughts are it looks almost overkill with the quilted top and the quilted fb prolly will look better once there is finish on it, are u puttin a tom on there or goin for a trem cuz it doesnt look like you have angled the neck at all MzI

  16. my maple top was 3/8 thick so when i finished it i used 2 different finished dye on the top and stain on the back. i taped the maple on the side alone the joint between the maple and mahogany, i then stained the back, took off the tape, repositioned it so i could dye the top without gettin any dye on the sides, i dyed the top bfore i ran my router with a roundover bit, then once i was done dying the top i took the tape off and had a naturally binding really easy to do, hardest thing to do was line the tape up so it was straight MzI
