  1. LOTS of questions. sorry in advance... i did search... i didnt want to make seperate threads for each of these 1) if i take out the tone pot from the diagram, will that cause hum or anything? (should i send it to ground?) clicky more specifically, i made this diagram from it... is there anything wrong with it? i dont want to screw up later... part2: where would i add a master tone? 2) is there anything wrong with making a guitar with a 0 degree neck angle? 3) what is the cheapest and easiest material to make routing template out of? 4) would a control cavity with no shielded backplate cause hum? thanks for even reading this far.. a million thanks to those who answer. peace guys.
  2. i do like vintage distortion stuff but i am a metal distortion kinda man
  3. maybe some wires have oxidized? if it buzzes when you touch the strings then you have a grounding issue with the bridge or the trmolo claw (or whaever your using) i would replace all of the wires if i were you. guitarelectronics.com has every wiring schemes you could possibly think of. scroll down on the left side of the page to ;wiring diagrams'.
  4. *drools* my god that is a beautiful guitar. post pics when your done! i would love to see it.
  5. dean came out with a camo style ml this year. maybe thats why? wouldnt the thing hum with no shielded backplate over the control cavity?
  6. wow, thanks for all your help guys!!! cheers to all of you! i'll try the diagram godin sd drew up. it completly eliminates the pot.. it may sound brash like greg said but i it may be to my use. i like the raw grungy sound. thanks again guys. ROCK HARD.
  7. alright then i might just scrap the second volume pot and connect the third lug of the toggle to ground. i was board with my p-90 and wanted to do somthing special with it.. i dunno. i know i'll come up with somthing. but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
  8. D'oh! do you know what i should do then?
  9. i want to have 2 volumes for one p-90. i'll have a switch to switch between the two so i can either use it as a kill switch, a distortion switch (by having 1 pot really low and the other really loud) or a helicopter effect.. etc. i drew this up on ms paint.. just wondering if it will work EDIT: im using a 3 way toggle and 500k pots if that helps anyone..
  10. nice harmonics! zakk wylde version of crazy train right? where'd you get it for 22 bucks from?
  11. take it to music-go-round
  12. anyone know how to make em? i'm not paying 12 bucks for a set.
  13. i have one but it still is uncomfortable... ya i'm nit-picky like that.
  14. i think i agree with you on the strat style jack. do i just take a big drill bit and angle it and start drilling? i cant trust myself doing it by hand.. it there a machine that does this?
  15. i recently got a dean baby v and the output jack is in the most inconvenient place.. the inner side of the v... (just look at the pic) i was thinking of moving it but i cant decide where. i might make it like a standard dean v's that have the output jack surrounded by a metal plate.. but i have no idea how to do it. i might move that to the top half so i can tuck the cable under my guitar strap... i might do a strat style output jack... i dunno. post your pics of your 'v' shaped guitars. i might also refinish it and add a pickguard. thanks guys-- rock hard
  16. i got the idea from john 5's signature. hes got 2 humbuckers, separate volumes, and 3 way toggle. the middle position being a killswitch. can anybody make a diagram please? im a complete noob.
  17. i want to turn my pup selector into a volume/tone selector. im using a three way toggle and one knob, so that means i could have the switch 'down' to make the knob volume control, the switch in the 'middle' position for a tone knob, and the 'up' position as a kill switch (im only using 1 pickup) i know you have to use a .047 capacitor on the tone knob for most humbuckers.. would this be a problem when i have the volume selected? i spent a great deal of time on ms paint.. only to give up. here is just a picture of a knob, pickup, and three way selector. you can copy this into ms paint and draw lines connecting the 3 in such a way to make my dream come true. peace
  18. i dont want to sand my veneer top as much as the tutorial says... should i anyways?
  19. sorry, im a noob. what is gouging exactly? very very beautiful guitar by the way. is that a neck thru?
  20. well, im right handed, but i want a left handed headstock for my ibanez rg i want this exact neck only without the 'seven' inlay and the red head. a nice plain black one with dot inlays would be sick. or... maybe a kramer/jackson headstock that would fit my ibanez?
  21. no your not missing anything.. im doing just about the same thing... imagine this exact finish on an ibanez rg. http://www.deanguitars.com/dean_winter_07/..._enlargedml.htm do these steps leave a high gloss finish?
  22. Klicky With hthis you get volume and tone for bridge on the same pot. If you would like to have vol for bridge at #1 and tone (when pulled) on #2 then move the push pull polt to be in the place were the neck pot is now in the schematic. But still wire the wire fron the bridge vol pot to the switch on the neck pickup pot. But that is a comletly different circuit.... thanks for your help swedish.
  23. i dont really use tone at all so having a knob that switches your bridge volume to full blast would be cool. i cant really picture what your saying-- can you make a diagram? thanks for all your help Then why did you want the tone in the first place?... A push/pull that switches to full volume combined with a volume pot does seem very useless....it's probably faster just to turn the knob up than pulling it out. If you want separate volumes but no tone then go with two volume knobs. push/pulls are also quite expensive compared to regular pots i should of rephrased it as "i barely use tone" i do like to have it though.. im definately thinking of the two volume then. a push pull pot is only 12 bucks or so from allparts.com i might just use it to split my emg from humbucker to single coil. i dont necessarily know how to do that but you get the idea.
