  1. If you didnt do full plunge with a bit like that the baring would not run against your template, therefore making it impossible to cut accurately. Its just a case of being careful.
  2. That little string block comes as standard on the more modern of the ibanez trems.
  3. UK college man, thats 16-18. then unversity is 18+
  4. Thanks, Ill give it a go if I get my college work done....
  5. Thanks for the kind words guys Im thinking about sanding down the back of the neck just to take the sticky finish off. Any tips? what grit paper should I use? Also, once Ive sanded the neck what finish should I apply (oil?) or should I just leave it totally raw? Thanks in advance
  6. Try rich of ibanezrules.com here. He doesnt have prices on his website but I seem to remeber them being about $180 (US)
  7. The passion and warfare did have a monkey grip in real life but it was airbrushed out on the front of the album. And no, no production UV has ever had a lions claw route.
  8. The only problem with shaving off the top of an LED is that it is that convex shape that focuses the light from the cathode - so if you do the light wont be as "direct"
  9. something like this perhaps. Or something like this would be perfect Hope I helped
  10. I think If i remeber correctly you can get small flat square LEDs that put there light out from the side, perfect for something like this *heads to maplin.co.uk to see if he was making it up* I shall return.
  11. Glad you like it . By the way drak - I did see the "im blind" post before you edited it lol! I get that alot...
  12. Emgs are one of those things; they work perfectly for what there designed to do - kick the S**T out of your pre-amp valves . I have EMGs in one of my guitars (soon to be 2) but I couldnt cope with having them in all, I love some things about them, but I have to have that passive tone to hand aswell.
  13. Well my first real post . At the moment Im modifying my kramer imperial I bought from music yo a while back (I couldnt resist, it was on offer for $150). I bought it origionally for alternative/drop tunings (its the only fixed bridge guitar I own) but I am soon to have a custom 8 string, I doubt im going to need to go lower than F#, hence the kramer needs a new assignment. Ive decided to go for the old skool 80s shred machine look. So the paints coming off and Im filling the neck pickup hole and Its having a respray. Question number one; What colour do you recon would suit the guitar? Ive scalloped 15th upwards allready. Question number two; What do you think to my first scalloping attempt?. Im just looking for some general input on the project from some other people, Im open to all krazy Ideas so just throw something at me, I might actually do it! Also, Heres a pic of the kramer before the mods nestled in my collection (the SK is pink, I just cant take photographs lol)
  14. The origional RR's were neck through as I can understand, so I doubt it was because they couldn't. I think it just must have been the way Randy wanted. In the pic below there is one of the jackson custom shop team holing randy's origonal wooden template for his guitar that he made for the custom shop - and there on there
  15. Upper fret access I think is the answer - if the body and the neck joined with a smooth line the neck 17th upwards would be super wide, and a bit hard to use. Try and have a look at some pics of the neckjoint from the front and back, I personally think its a great idea!
  16. the neck pocket looks actually to be 62mm dead (this is at the end of the neck pocket closed to the nut, if you know what I mean) width at nut I have just checked up on the ibanez website, and they agree with me Width at the end of the fretboard is 66 mm dead. This was a cool measurement to take - the pickup magnets held the metal ruler in place for me.....god, Im sad lol!
  17. I like it, It has a nice "les-paul" quality to it. I like the woods too - that piece of birdseye looks great, really bright and "busy" Its gonna look great; keep us updated.
  18. Randy plans can be found here - second one down . Not looked at the plan but I knew it was there...
  19. Have a search on ebay for something like "quilt maple" - you will get a load of results but most of them will be from one company's online store. There is alot of choice and it doesnt seem to be too overpriced hope that helps.
  20. Width of neck at nut - 48mm width of neck at other end (neck pocket) - 62.5mm Both the measurements were taken from my UV7BK Theres nothing I dont like about the UV, It is, without doubt the best seven string I have ever played - or I wouldnt have bought one!
