  1. sorry , you took me up wrong there! , i did`nt explain it well, What i mean is , if you look at the website showing the build prcess you will see that the rear control cavity is actually wood cut from the cavity itself(the grain matches). I was just wondering how that was done so neatly. john.
  2. Mind if i ask you how you were able to keep the wood you cut out for the control cavity to make the cover? did you use a scroll saw? john.
  3. My guitar does that too , not all of the time mind you!, but the bridge is grounded fine. its a mystery to me
  4. Absolutely stunning! , and i really do like the vine!
  5. Does anyone know how and where to purchase MightyMite parts ? I have visited their website and i like the prices, but alas no mail order and i cant find any distributers. thanks, john.
  6. btw, i wonder if anyone has ever made their own hardwood bridge with saddles from a normal steel bridge? interesting .......
  7. String thru body it is! , I could use a fender style one ( a bit clichéd ) stewmac #0179 or stewmac #5304 which is a top loader but if you look at the pic of it there is no reason i can see that you could`nt use it as a string thru, i could radius the edges of the string holes a little to avoid any string breakage problems at the bend(because string is not meant to pass through fully.) what do you think? the second option is a lot cheaper and looks different to the traditional fender style. or am i just being silly? thanks, john.
  8. The guitar i've just started building is a neck-thru prs style guitar. Considering the fact that the neck is not angled, what type of bridge should i use in order to have the best sustain possible? i was thinking hardtail strat bridge , but how about a tune-o-matic style with tailpiece? i know the neck needs to be angle for them, but how about recessing the bridge and tailpiece into the body(i remember someone mentioned that not too long ago.) Im building this guitar to sustain till the cows come home any ideas? thanks, john.
  9. i was looking at the Earvana website , and was thinking of buying one for my latest project(im not finished my first and im starting another! ) I fully understand the theory behind how it works , but the amount of compensation looks too extreme to me. Has anyone here used them before? What material are they made of? they look like cheap plastic to me. Has anyone ever made a similar one themselves? Im sure its possible if you buy an oversized Bone nut blank any ideas? thanks, john.
  10. Any ideas how to remove chips and dents in lacquer. I have a really pretty looking bass(stained finish) that i would like to improve by removing the chips without refinishing the guitar. I had thought of this: reomove the damage section of lacquer with a dremel or other tool. Fill the cavity with lacqeur, let it dry then sand flat and polish up ??? Thanks, John.

  12. sounds like microphonic feedback , the pickups are the problem they are either not wax potted or not wound tightly enough ........... i think.
  13. im doing one in the traditional Heritage Cherry mahogany colour. -- If i can find enough mahogany !!! That Kisakae website is great isnt it!
  14. Anyone got any idea how much shipping to ireland would cost? seeing as they are in the uk it should`nt be too much would it?
  15. I did`nt say it adds more flip , i said it may give more depth.
  16. i have a steinberger(licenced) bass if its any use to you? most of the hardware looks the same.
  17. He`s a Happy Camper! well done jeremy , its a really amazing looking axe! John.
  18. but trial and error can be expensive whe using pearl paints! " I know about the pearlesent and the clear solution, but will the last clear coat be to shiny to see the pearlesent? " No, sure thats how cars are painted. If anything the lacquer will add more depth to the pearlescent "flip" Good luck with it ! john.
  19. its pretty strange that its cut! , i have owned the guitar from brand new (99) and have not had any work carried out on it by anyone else. could it be some kind of coil-tap feature?
  20. i recently took my squier fat strat apart to have a look inside and begin installing my pieze transducers ., i studied the pickup wiring for a but then realised the humbucker actually has three wires coming from it , but one of them is snipped short(barely visible under the insulation) it is a red wire as far as i can remember. what is the wire for and why is it not used? thanks , john.
  21. personally(as a bass player) , i find that beer can sometimes improve my dexterity, which is important when playing bass(i have really big hands too! ) . When performing live, beer would`nt be the best as it may tire you slightly. Drink a shot of something before you perform and you will be fine. of course this is just my humble opinion #
  22. stunning , simply stunning! what more can i say........ john.

    pickups

tried already, great prices but they dont ship outside of usa or canada, thanks. john.
  24. in theory, a pickup fed an amplified signal should work as a sustainer should it not? im very interested in this topic. I WILL incorporate this into my forthcoming guitar project.! oh yes, i will! john.

    pickups

i checked that nevada site, they dont appear to have them listed. i`ll drop them an e-mail and see if they can supply them. yeah your right about active in a bass, cant live without it , unless your all out of 9v batteries!
