  1. So its nice to have friends. On a windy March day $30 and some taco bell got me... and... The tuners on the far left are fender, brand new. The next ones are vintage fender, and the 3rd set i dunno. The bass tuners are MASSIVe and in really poor shape. All the knobs are great. The pickup looks fine, the trem is a crappy Conrad. The bass bridge is off the bass in the second picture. 3 guitar gig bags, 1 bass gig bag. The guitar shown is a conrad. The bass fingerboard seems to be indian rosewood. Lots of random screws & stuff. Some string ferrules. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with myself...
  2. Ok this guitar went through a whole load of nasty things (including a different paintjob and a piece of the guitar actually chipping off). I finally got it ready and put a coat of lacquer on it earlier today. First, how it looked originally... Then, how it looks as of now...Just one coat of lacquer, no sanding or buffing yet. All comments welcome, including negative ones...
  3. Does anyone know where to buy white micarta in large enough blanks for fingerboards? Thanks, Kirk
  4. ken who?....smith? if he's closing down his shop, this is a sad day indeed for bass players world wide.
  5. ....did it look alright?
  6. Masking tape will work, thought it is not always perfect and may have some bleeding. You should be able to sand or scrape the bleedover off.
  7. These i thought you all should see. I love how the shape of the board kinda looks like an eagle. I wish i had more cash.... # 1 # 2 # 3
  8. I can't afford this but someone can and should buy it NOW!!!!!!!! THERES NOT MUCH TIME LEFT AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  9. ...you're planning to give all proper credit, correct?
  10. I have my drying device clamped to my bandsaw right now with a guitar hanging on it...so i haven't yet had the chance to look inside (i've had it open before i just wasn't thinking about a riser then...) I'm not looking to make it 8.5" and resaw, i just need more clearance, as it is, theres about 3 1/4" of clearance, and i've already had to take 2 pieces in to be cut elsewhere because i can't do it myself. I like to do all the work, not to mention, it makes me EXTREMELY nervous. Right now i've got a $150 neck blank in being cut, and i'll be afraid until i get it back. It's a nice homey little shop with about 5 guys in it and their shop is amazing, i'm sure i dont have to worry...but even so, it would have been nice to just have the liability in my hands....thanks for the advice, i think i can cover it from here. I might have to look into a bigger saw. A local store has a nice 15" saw with a stand and all for about $200 US (i think). It's a shop fox. Looks sweet...
  11. Matt was yours originally like a 9" standar saw...using a 60" blade or so? If so, how hard was it to do that riser as I would like one for mine....
  12. I'm sorry I made the newbie mistake. If you've got some ideas other than whats in the supply section feel free to go ahead and post. I sometimes forget theres a main site....
  13. Where else can i get abalone, mop, gold pearl, & other inlay materials besides stewmac. I've tried the 'bay, but i've gone through pages and pages of necklaces and bowls, and jewelery boxes....and found NO BLANKS SHEETS! Where do you get yours?
  14. an old man who rocks at making guitars....
  15. What is a Riser for a band saw, and what purpose does it serve other than that people use it to resaw...?
  16. so i think thats like around 4 or so guitars from that i've seen since i joined the forum 3 months ago. You must have a HUGE guitar room if you've been doing this (at least?) 7 years.... Beautiful though, unexplicably gorgeous. Hurry up with your tutorial on matched backplates! I LOVE THAT SOOO MUCH!
  17. sweet, thanks for the links TSL. I've done some searches, but I haven't run across those yet.
  18. I orded the Benedetto Book last week and it should be here tomorrow. I'm planning on taking MUCH less than a year, though, Drak. I'ma have to crack down and focus hardcore on it. I've got a potential customer who wants one, but I told him I have to learn how to build one first... I'm excited to get the book, as I love archtops, and I just yeah...gotta build one. I guess I'll see how arduous of a task it may be when the book comes...
  19. John Hargiss from where I live invented the minstrel at the bottom. This must be one of the earlier ones pictured, as the ones I've played look much more professional. Anyway, the guitar is much smaller than a standard acoustic, but plays QUITE WELL in the same octave. Very cool...
  20. Found out from Larry of Gallery Hardwoods.
  21. I likada Black Limba. Not as dark as some i've seen...but still very cool. Fingerboard is....ebony? indian rosewood?....... Also is it all out of one big board or did you order a body and a neck? I'm gonna assume the body is two pieces, although if it is, you did a great job gluing it up.
  22. started playing in 7th grade (5 years ago) when the band teacher asked me to play bass in the jazz band. Always wanted to play guitar, so i figured bass was just a stepping stone to guitar so i went in...little did i know how much i'd love bass. I learned the entirety of nimrod by Green Day within the first 6 hours of owning my first bass (a hamer slammer) now i don't play as much as i used to, but i still write a lot of music. I have over 100 orignal songs finished or in the works... here's a little ditty i pulled out last year if anyone is interested Its this
  23. um....is it gonna remaind "bass" sized...the body that is?
