  1. Where to get knives for homemade ibex-like planes?
  2. There is a great video in which some guy says that it's better to wet the wood first, to prepare it. And it looks great! Here's link: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/Ski...e.aspx?id=30182
  3. I need a chisel like this one on picture, with edge width of about 20mm, where to find them on internet? They don't need to be some quality, nothing special or professional...thanks
  4. Hey guys, where to buy U-shaped chisels/gouges ON INTERNET? like this:
  5. I'm searching the net in search for best solution...and I think I will first carve edges of guitar to what thickness they are supposed to be+binding, and next is just thickness without binding, and then use a angle grinder to rough out the shape. Because I don't have ANY blueprints and stuff, I will have to be very careful not to take too much wood, unless I want to give another bunch of money away for another figured maple top.... Router + angle grinder + scrapers + lots of sanding paper + even more patience. That should be it, what do you think?
  6. I'm thinking of using just rasps to do step 1. What do you recommend for step 2? It seems like trickiest part to do, step 3 is much easier, it's just finishing. Opinions?
  7. @Cam, that is a picture of how the carve need to be, those are steps in carving. @stereordinary, I don't know!, I'm about to build a guitar like that (pensa suhr mk-1), but the carve isn't like the lp's, it's different around the body, and horns are completely different story..
  8. I have les paul with no flat spot for rings, rings are sanded on the back so they match the curvature of guitar. Look on stewmac, you can buy regular rings, and those for carved tops
  9. This should help you: http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-l...-pic-heavy.html
  10. How can I contact them, they aren't answering my mails...
  11. Yes, use dark brown, or black, and sand back. Then dye with amber, yellow or whatever color you like. I suggest you work on a test peice to get the color you want before applying dye to the guitar. Now, you can dye the burst but its easier to seal in the stain with ss or clear and then spray the burst over that. This way, if you mess it up, you can sand it off without ruining the dye underneath. Thanks on the tip to seal the dye, I have a feeling that I would have skipped that....thanks
  12. Cool. I though that there is some limit for thickness on the top...if there isn't, it's better
  13. What I actually need is to know what is the thickness on edges, and what is in the middle (part that is flat, where pickups and floyd are), that's my biggest problem!
  14. I'm about to build a carved top, pensa/suhr like guitar, but I actually don't know what is the thickness of back wood, and what is the thickness of top that would be carved....help?
  15. Yes, but with burst...that's the thing I'm looking for! So I use dark brown, sand it off, and then this gold/yellow dye?
  16. Where do you get flamed/quilt maple tops thick enough for carved top, guys?
  17. It was cheaper than ordering a Dremel from internet... The biggest problem is how to hold it firmly, so it doesn't wobble...
  18. Well, it is not actually a dremel... Any ideas how to build a small base for that? It has only 10mm of flat surface, right above the bit...any ideas?
