  1. I install the optic fiber before cutting the neck sides to final shape, give it 5 mm at least extra . I install the shaped fingerboard, jigsaw and route the neck using the fingerboard as template, The 1 mm optic fiber did not shred or stuff, was perfect after the routing, anyway I sanded up to 600 grit, and worked quite well. I must say that I install the optic fiber in the neck wood, in small routed channels that get filled with CA glue or epoxy resin. Hope that helped a little
  2. Don't know if it can help, but it is possible to make a fiber dot neck, with not too much pain My first project with fiber came out quite well. I installed 1 led in the neck, not in the body, just have the thin wires passing in between the bolt on, so I can even change the led if I wanted to, just removing the neck. Did the same process filling with polieuretan resin, before attaching the fingerboard. Sorry I don't have any other pictures of the construction, but if you need any help, I'll be glad to assist.
  3. Amazing work ! Sure doing professional work for a first project ! Keep us updated I bought the TRS low from them, I don't like the first one, but waiting that it arrives. Anyway if you consider the price I think it will be a good tremolo, I wanted an Ibanes lo pro for my 7 string, but way out of hand the price, I can't afford it. I saw some licenced floyd rose trems for about 55 $, but will not reccomend. These of Guitar Parts depot seem to be a good quality / price trem.
  4. Thanks Primal ,that will work just fine !
  5. Hi, I know there are a few topics on this sustainer, but I did not seem to find an answer, not even surfing around search engines.... Where can I buy a Fernandez sustainer to install on a custom fretless guitar I am planning. I was thinking to use it with an Ebow, but actually was looking forward in istalling the sustainer anyway. Thanks Rob
  6. I recess my TOM bridges as well, I made a template to guide the router , fast and easy, I like the strings to be close to the body, it's a personal feel, I have a hard time playing on Gibsons LP or SG. Anyway I did angle a neck once, but changed method right after.
  7. Ops.....so you mean it's just a middle binding...and not a whole sheet inbetween the wood plates?
  8. I was looking at some of the body options on the Warmoth SITE , at the pinstripe layer in between the two body wood. They use maple and fiber sheets. Does anyone use some othe material? Like plain plastic or thin veneer? Regards
  9. Nice work ! I like that saw support you made for the fretboard slotting. Keep posting
  10. Thanks Mike, nice job! I am wondering if Tung oil is like Danish oil? I only can find that around in the local hardware stores.
  11. Nice work, that wood is good looking! What kind of tremolo do you have installed? TRS ?
  12. Thanks , No way I can clamp the body, it's all round ....so I will give that paste fill a try. You are talking of epoxy glue or resin? I am not experienced with epoxy, but I'll try to get a hold of that glue, since vinil glue tends to srink a lot during drying process. I'll let you know how it works out, it may be usefull for others in future. Rob
  13. Hi all, I bought a wile ago some zebrawood lumber....the guy at the mill told me (as usual) that the woods super dry, no fears...... Well, i put the lumber in the garage for a week, waxed the edges with paraffine, just in case... you know. After that i glued a 3 piece laminate body blank, and let it sit there for 3 days. I cut and ruted the shape of the guitar body, i rubbed some red oil on the body, and brought the body blank home, to make it acclimatize with the home ambient. Kept it there for 2 week...no problem, body looking good, no bending or stuff. after these two weeks, they turned the heating in the building, raising drasticly the temperature (and humidity percent much lower as a consequence) of the apartments of 4 or 5 C° . Well surprize !!! THIS is what happend in 2 days ! 80 $ lumber cracked on me, it started one small crack, now after a week from the temperature change, I have 2 crack, much bigger, and a strange blank movement in one of the glue joints (like opening slightly). Now what would you do? - Let it sit a month at least from now, and see what happens to it? - Fill the cracks with a blend of vinil glue, dark fine saw dust to make it pasty, and press it in as much as possible as a filler? - Throw away everything cause you are just wasting your time, wood will keep on cracking with the following months! All feedback is welcome, experienced or not, I appricite it ! Rob
  14. Nice work! Are you going to seal the small cracks of the wenge with something?
  15. Good progress you are making, I am craving to see that beauty fineshed ! And please defenetly some info on the tung oil finish, I am interested in the process. Rob
  16. I did that before applying the glue on my veneer, I wet the veneer and ironed it , but I repeat the iron was not hot, just warm
  17. Thanks for the link guys, Those neck finished in epoxy HG THOR are beautiful ! So I shoud just apply a regular hard glass epoxy finish and buffit up? Never worked with epoxy, should I apply it with a brushor pour it on the fingerboard? I don't have a spay device
  18. Hi, I have a 5 string fretless bass to build, I was wondering about the fingerboard wood that is most recomended. I see most of them made in ebony, will Rosewood, or other hard woods work? Do they sell graphite fingerboards (not the hole neck like the MOSES GR )? thanks Rob
  19. Nice work as usual hyunsu ! I admire the fact that you have a hard daily regular job, that keeps you busy many hours a day ( if I remember corectly more than 10 ), and still are able to progress you guitar works so fast! Keep rocking
  20. Don't know if it will help...... I glued a really thin veneer ( 0.2 mm ) mohogany with regular white vinylic glue ( like titebond), i used a clotes iron slightly warmed up (plugged it in for a minute and let it cool off a little) , and the glue dried out in faster, it worked well for me, took me about 20 min of ironing !
  21. Hi Marcel, I don't know for fact, but when I tried a King V in studio I remember it slightly thinner body compared to the regular 45 mm. (Don't want to hijack this tread ....) Do you have a clue where I can get those string ferrules that you see on the upper body, before the TOM bridge in the KING V? I need them for a project , and they seem smaller than the back (tele style ) ferrules..... Regards Rob
  22. Looking good, nice clean work ! Beautiful limba
  23. Sorry, I have a hard time explaining myself sometimes, and even my grammar in english is not so good ! I live in Italy...... anyway thanks for the picture, you have what I call a compact drillpress, all one machine. I have a vertical cheapow alluminum drill holder, that I combine with (the drill) , but I don't think it will last long if I start pressing frets in......"you get what you pay for" ( was that in a song?! ). Thanks for replying.
