  1. EMG makes the PA-2 preamp booster. Then I suppose you'd wire it to the Humbucker From Hell only.
  2. That is an interesting Guitar Nuts article. I figured it out. Someone who wired this guitar for me years ago used 2 conductor+ground wire and only used one wire from it. So there were two pieces of it, and a total of 4 unused wires inside the cavity. I thought, "I think I'll take those out." Seems to have solved it.
  3. Usually it's the other way around, but what would cause buzzing noise when the strings are touched???
  4. Looking at the way a Stratocaster works, I'm guessing I would connect the tone pot to one switch lug. But I have two humbuckers. I wired just the same as a Tele, bridge only->both parallel->neck only. My question is, which lug on the switch or any other ways to do this?
  5. It has a locking nut though. I guess I could flip the nut lock pad over so the section that was holding the E holds the B, just to see if it makes a difference. Thanks though!
  6. Open B on a guitar (Ibanez RG550) I'm setting up it strangled sounding, meaning sounds thinner and quieter and dies out faster than other open strings. I thought it might be the 1st fret but determined it was not the cause. What ELSE could it be causing this?
  7. I got some info from Stew Mac, wondering if anyone would like to comment. I inquired about their Through Body Neck, and they confirmed that it is a Carvin piece. So I asked them specifically, is the radius compound 12" to 14.5" or just 15" all the way up & down the fingerboard. They replied that it is 15" up & down. So I'm thinking maybe the Carvin NT6 K, which is what Stew Mac has with the paddle headstock, is the same radius it always was. Maybe Carvin didn't change the paddle version?
  8. I just got a return email from Stew Mac. He said their Through-Body Neck "is indeed a Carvin". FIDDLESTICKS!
  9. But they are not 15" radius anymore? OK, now I've gone from excited to bummed. I don't care for compound radii. I like real flat boards. drewblanc, can you link to the thread where this is discussed on carvin?
  10. One other thing, if you add a top to it, like say a flamed maple peice, does it get too thick? cause if I went for a fixed strat type bridge- which I can't decide between that and a Floyd - it would then be riding too high off the body i'm guessing. Not a huge deal. a solid color is fine also.
  11. Wow, totally cool. Now I'm getting excited about this. I was definitely planning on sanding the heel down, as i was going for a super strat design. That would be OK, right? Also, how do you get the wings on, just Titebond or something?
  12. Seems like a somewhat cheaper way to make a neck through guitar. Except, how do you add the wings? Do you just glue them on? I'd probably make it an Ibanez RG copy. With a Floyd Rose PRO trem. I don't know, any thoughts?
  13. That Behringer package can only be absolute crap. Think about it, at that price.
  14. Allparts has a replacement nut for lcok nuts, it's called "ebanol". It's like a really thick regular nut.
  15. so you mean i would be neck -0-0 out -0-0 brid -0-0 ?? but what about grounding it? my guess was the middle lug on the side I didn't use would go to ground but I'm not sure, that's why I ask.
  16. I think so . I used a regular Floyd for a long time but after getting a guitar with a low profile version, I loved it and can't go back to a regular. It's so much more comfortable.
  17. I just want a Mini DPDT switch to give me the selection of either bridge PU or neck PU, no "both". There are 6 lugs. I can't find a diagram for it anywhere.
  18. I should've posted on here, I found a thread on Jemsite where a guy knew what the colored wires for the V77 were, so I used those and it worked out. I wound up using a 3 way switch and it split the humbuckers in the middle position giving a Straty split sound. The only reason I mentioned an RG550 in this thread was as a reference, I thought if one Ibanez PU had red as hot, white as coil tap that they ALL would but it turns out that is not the case with the 4 conductor V77(I forget what each was, I have it written down). I put these PU's in an RG7620. Thanks
  19. Oh sorry, these are 7 string versions of the V8 and V7. I looked at the 2002 version of the RG7420. They actually came out of a 2003 RG1527 but they don't have that diagram up yet at Ibanez.com.
  20. Thanks, I know of that site. I didn't think to go there because I printed out the important pages a couple years ago and keep them with my electronics books. But I looked just now at the color codes and they have Ibanez listed as "Hot Output=white; Coil Tap=red" whereas on the page I printed out it lists "Hot Output=red; Coil Tap=white"!! I wonder why they changed it? Looking at Ibanez.com diagrams I have it's clear that on the RG550 the hot is red because the middle PU red goes to the switch and the white to ground, and the 2 hums red's go to lugs on the switch either side of the middle lug. Also i put a V8 into a guitar alone (1 hum->vol.->output jack) and used red as hot and it's humbucking.
  21. I'm wiring these Ibanez PU's to a Megaswitch "P". I went to the Ibanez website and got the diagram but it shows their specialized switch so I can't tell how they would relate to the Megaswitch . Except the grounds of course. Plus I guess red is hot. But I always thought white was the tap with Ibanez, which the diagram shows going to the switch for the bridge but the neck's white goes to the pot with the shield ground. FYI the neck PU is 4 conductor.
  22. you can order direct from Dunlop, I've emailed them about it but the recommend getting it from a dealer because they(Dunlop) must charge full list +$6 shipping. I just went to Guitar Center and they special ordered it. It's much cheaper if you can wait for the order to come in(it took 2 or 3 weeks).
