  1. No, the neck will be natural bubinga, just the top of the headstock will have a swirl on it. It would be a shame to cover up that bubinga.
  2. Great looking guitar! Record a sound clip when you get it all wired up n' stuff!
  3. Looks great killemall! I still wanna see that red crackle finish one though
  4. I'm going to do a swirl paintjob on the body and the top of the headstock. So in a way there will be. I've played a bunch of bolt on RGs and their fret access is very good actually. So that made my decision. Thanks, but I'm doing a swirl paintjob on it with probably, Red, Black, and White. Not sure yet. And man is Bubinga a tough wood to shape! Thanks for all the comments!
  5. Started carving the neck, and cut out the headstock shape. Also drilled the tuners. http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com/2008/05/30/11/
  6. Thanks, I'm pretty sure the body wood is ash, I'm not sure.. But the wood is a lot lighter in real life than the pictures. The headstock is a 4x4 ibanez RG2228 style as you can see in the very first picture . Thanks for the comment! You're the second person.. haha.
  7. Since this, the neck wood has been trimmed flush to the fretboard. http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com/2008/05/29/10/
  8. More work on this today. Got the scarf joint cleaned up, and the fretboard slotted, and tapered. http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com/2008/05/27/neck-stuff/
  9. It’s been a while, but here is some more progress. Got the neck blank cut out and the scarf is gluing overnight. Here is a shot to show off the nice bubinga neck. http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com
  10. That looks fantastic! Can't wait to see this one assembled.
  11. Files work, but I'd get a microplane. It'll save you a few hours. On the plus side, it's hard to accidentally take off too much bubinga with my rasp because it cuts only a little faster than 80 grit sandpaper cuts hard maple Hope to see how it looks when you finish! Todd Hm, what is the advantage of a microplane? To my experience they don't take off very much? You ARE talking about this, right?
  12. Yeah, I think I would have the patience for it. Thanks for the information everyone, I'm looking forward to shaping this neck. Josh.
  13. Well thanks for the information guys, I think I might tackle the bubinga neck.. To shape my necks I use a giant bastard file and it tears through everything else without a problem. Then I clean it up with cabinet scrapers/finer files. Josh
  14. I've got a really nice piece of straight grained bubinga. So that would be great for a neck?
  15. Thank you for the information.. I think I might go with a full bubinga. I just need more information.
  16. What does everyone here think of a bibinga neck, would it be very hard to shape? Also what are the upsides and downsides of it? Josh
  17. Sorry about double post, updates at http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com/ comment here or on the blog.
  18. Great work, I really like that color on there!
  19. Updates at http://lctguitarbuild.wordpress.com/
  20. Glued the body blank. Tomorrow I will glue the neck blank! And cut the shape out hopefully.
  21. Try rubbing the pieces together after you apply the glue, this will fill all the gaps and there should be no air left in there, creating a very good glue join!
  22. I would go for the 808, or anything else, but I have no job and my sister is funding me for this one. Plus I already have the 45dc. Thanks Prostheta, I will keep it updated.
  23. Well, as my other project is in the finishing stages, I thought I would start this one. specs; Alder body Wenge/bubinga neck Bolt on neck bubinga fretboard EMG 45DC pickup (bridge position) Scale is 27" tuned to F#/B/E/A/D/G/b/e Shape is an RG, with RG2228 headstock. Will post up as soon as I have pictures of it.
  24. Looks great, can't wait to see the other ones
