  1. Now this is a hard vote to put just "one" guitarist at the top. For me my fav. guitarist is John Petrucci, Steve Vai,Joe Satriani,Eric Johnson,Greg Howe,Tony Mcalpine,Eddie VanHalen,Chris Degarmo,Yngwie Malmsteen,Marty Friedman, Alex Lifeson, SRV,Chris Isaak, Gary Hoey,Phil Keaggy, Lincoln Brewster,Bob Hartman....I could go on and on The thing is i cant just say "the best guitarist is.." Because to me, all these guys are #1 . most might sound simular to another yet each one has that uniqness about there playing and sound that will inspire me I love everything about the guitar and all those who have made it soooo exciting and inspiring for the rest of us. lol Everyones a winner !!!!!!!!
  2. Dave, Definantly House of Kolor is the way to go. If you watch "Monster Garage" on Mondays you'll see some of their wide range of wild kolors. I have a couple of Jon Kosmoskies videos and let me say he's a professional from start to finish. Good luck as im starting out myself in airgun painting!!!
  3. LOL I know this sounds lame but its cheaper....In stead of buying a sander (of instance an orbital sander)you can get an attatchment for your drill...im sure everyone has seen these in the hardware stores they're pretty cheap. Of course you can always hit the pawn shops and try your luck their for some bargains on tools!!!!
  4. Well i might as well tell my "so called secret" paint scheme lol ok first off last year when i started my RG550 project into a Jem i picked out the gold/magenta mirage color actually i painted it and decided to go ahead with all the Jem features so i sanded it back down but the neck has been finished and might i say "green" Ibanez logo kicks ass on it. Now Scott i know your anger lol cause atthe point when i painted the body the first time i got the idea to do the "Petrucci pattern" with the two different mirage colors( gold/magenta and green/silver ). I did a test peice to see and ....Whoa it kicks ass!!! Of course if i had money to throw away i' love to get the "Kamelian colors" from House of Kolor. I saw this back in '98 i think when I went to the Drag races, it was introduced on Dean Skuzas Matco tools funny car and it puts dupli-colors version to shame. But thats where dupli-color got the mirage from..so"us common folk" could enjoy it too lol.
  5. OK first off i didn't find this sight myself www.flamingoveneer.com if you go to the area where everyone has their custom websight to show their project guitar progress this guy is doing a veneer finish w/blue staine on a Ibanez 7string body..(some of you might already know who im taling about) but hebought his veneer from thi place and might i say they have an awesome selection not to menton very fair pricing...i thought Brian could place that websight in the supplys section since i didn't see it their. The guy gave very high praise about the place...and i can see why!!!! so props to the guy who found that sight
  6. I put Novice bt i guess i could be in the novice/hobbyist/player catagory. Starting out learning to make my ideas in my head come to life....but i am still learning alot and have alot to learn ...one day i'll be a master
  7. (drooling) ahhh just looking at that wolfgang makes me wanna grab a drill and and play "poundcake"
  8. CANT WE JUST ALL GET ALONG!!!!!!! "BE EXELLENT TO EACH OTHER....PARTY ON DUDE!!!!!!!!!
  9. WOW this is very interesting on all the different points on veiw on "SWIRL" first off i love the swirl on a guitar...it's art the cool thing about it is that it a pattern thats not supposed to be perfect, however your hand dips th guitar and is moved around then thats what you get! Couple years ago i set out to find the answers to this"secret" like everyone else i knew the basis of how it was done but want to know that "tweeked" part that Guys like Herc and ATD have down......."Parctice" as with anything. I wanted to do a flame job on my truck again i knew pretty much how to do it but i wnet and grabbed some instructional tapes and a mes load of scrap metal and pacticed till i got what i wanted. Finally its not cool to knock someone's art"work" (ampage) we are all artist here and how we create our guitars to what our minds have dreamed up is the purest form of "art" what looks good to you may not look good to me but im not gonna scorn you on it...so with thatim off to "practice" swirling lol.....Brian thank you lol i know iv bugged the hell outta ya with wandering when the tutorial would be out ..i had faith in ya bro
  10. Hmmm i expected more uotta Ibanez at the NAMM show but i'd hope there waiting for the summer show to rip out some new JEM's, JS, RG's.......lol of course i cant afford any of the high end guitars at the time but it sure be nice to see some new art work on them......wait that's what this sights all about
  11. OK i finally went and got me a decent router (plunge router to be exact), got my 3/8 bit to do the lions claw trem.....well lol i didnt pay attention to see that brian used a trim router but thought "no prob i can still do this"....wrong lol when trying to measure the the lines for the tail end of it, i couldn't cause the of the round piece on the router but again my impatiant self wanted to press on. It looked like it was going well till i started noticing my grooves wern't strait not bad that you'd look at it and go "ssssss man you messed up bad" but bad enough for me to want to just drive that router through the guitar lol. Anyway..... i routed the different layers which wasn't bad, looking at it i can tell its not gonna be exact but to the average onlooker the wont know the difference. All in all i was disapointed in myself for getting in a rush ( lol a problem i have a lot of ) but with alittle T.L.C. for the rest of this part of the project it should come out ok ...i hope lol
  12. HMMM It's kinda sad he dosen't remember how he did it the first time. LOL i guess the rule of thumb here to always take photos, write it down so you can remember it when the orders start flooding in. But thats usually the way..you make something awesome and then others want it and you cant remember how you did it!!!!
  13. HOW WUDE...ME'SA THINKS YOU BETTER THEN THE GOONGANS, WE'SA WANT NO TROUBLE SO NO SMASHY JAR JARS HEAD....... LOL I WATCH TOO MUCH STAR WARS
  14. Thats great Brian, Yes id like a scan of that. I have a few ideas dealing with some cool colors with that graphic...I didnt think about the "vinal" method of course thats another rout i could go as well but i really want to try it to where i can lay down my own color scheme (looking at doing vaneer staining and color changing paint with the graphic) Once again Brian you are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!1
  15. OK i think iv brought this up before but im curious is to how i would go about reproducing the "piccaso" graphic that Petrucci had on his IbanezJPM. I guess what id really like is to have a template of it, if its possible. Any insight would be greatly appeciated!!!!!
  16. Iv herd several methods "floating" the paint on top of the water is one iv herd which is pretty much the same thing. I believe the tricky part is finding the correct paint to do the guitars in (being as the colors will float and not bleed together right away) but as stated before Mr. Calvert is working on that totorial and should hope to see something in the near future!!!!
  17. 3rd eye your in luck, From what brian posted a month ago he's working on that tutorial along with someone else putting one out....so i would say in the near future we could see the "swirl" tutorial!!!!
  18. Totaly awesome Jeremy...think we could see what the rest of the guitar looks like? From what i see one one of the photos looks like a cool floral pattern on the neck.
  19. Thanks for the info ACfixer..it's appreciated!!! And by the way...Welcome to the sight
  20. Iv found Plasti-kote works petty well. You can find some pretty nice colors in automotive paints. I get mine from Pepboys..... but as the late great painter Bob Ross always said..."its your own little world" lol
  21. Hey got a quesiton that i guess i never really thought of till now. Is their a certain polish to use on the top coat? lol mother nature has blessed me with low humidity to finish up my 540P material top....yes finally it's almost finished.
  22. Hands down, gotta go with the custom paint job but like everyone else i think anything that you can do to customize your ax is worth it
  23. Hey that one guitar on Dino's sight (the one with the skull and swords crossed behind it, with a serpent on the side) I believe George Lynch used that with "Lynch Mob"..i might be wrong but i swear i was him with that guitar ..or design on his guitar
  24. AHHHH lol ok well im gonna have to go with the multi aerosol cans goo news is it seems to finally be setting so it gets the gloss on it ...neck that is lol. The body well thats gonna take a while lol
  25. OK FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mother nature cuts me a break down here in Houston and knocks the humitiy down so i can finish my 540P material top. Now...a problem iv just ran into...i think im spraying the on the guitar(material and painted sides) my clear coat and it seems the material is soaking the clear like its thursty lol. Is this normal being that i just have to apply alittle more than usual coats to a material top or have i goofed and need to use a different clear(top) coat. Im using Plasti-Kote clear spray.
