  1. I did say most, but I realise many people choose to make their own, for some of the same reasons people choose to make guitars.
  2. Wow! Thin! Now theres a guitar that you could play on a strap for days!
  3. The truss rod counters the pull of the strings on the neck. It can be used to adjust the bow in the neck, or the 'relief'. Most people don't make them, they buy them. Try StewMac. Truss rods go under the fretboard. Also, I know there are tutorials on the main site that can answer this question, as well as most others. And, any guitar making book you need can be found on Amazon. Try Melvyn Hiscocks "Make Your Own Electric Guitar".
  4. Yes, Selects are passive, as are the HZ range. I son't know much about the Selects, but the HZ range is designed to emulate active pickups, without actually being active. The problem is, they made some of them so high output in an effort to make them sound active, that they try to force the amp into overdrive, even if you're playing clean, so the clean tones of some of the range are rather lacking.
  5. passive pickups work because the strings vibration induces a small current in the coils, which is amplified by the amplifier. they do not require a battery active pickups have a built in preamp and require a battery to work.
  6. try the tutorials on the main project guitar sites, and then try a search of the forum, and then get some guitar making books
  7. Am I being dense, or is there no sense in replacing a 24 fret neck with a 22? If you don't want to use the top two frets, fine, so just don't use them, or is there something I'm not getting?
  8. gibson use 24 9/16", and thats what stewmac supply when gibson replacement boards are ordered.
  9. Maestro is right. Or rather, I think the same.
  10. hi rokrstyl. If you want to know when he came over here, look at the date joined.......... (4th May 04) Although, he told me he was here before, but couldn't remember his name, so he made a new account. EDIT: Sorry for getting off topic ansil.
  11. Take the word "bandsaw". Remove the 'b' to get "andsaw". Put an 'h' at the begining of the word. You get "handsaw". There's your answer! (Or maybe what these other guys suggested)
  12. Em, whats the need to gain information in a small amount of time? If you're revising anyway, you're not gonna be building, so you don't really need the info. A little time spent going through the main site and any relevant tutorials would be of benefit to you, accompanied by the purchase of a book on the subject, or maybe two books. If you want this guitar to work, lots of planning would be advisable. N.B. The tone of this reply was not meant to be agressive. Feel free to take it as you want, but don't expect civility if you take it the wrong way.
  13. I have a Squier P-Bass, and its' headstock is 14mm thick.
  14. Looks like an interesting concept. If you like it, go for it.
  15. Actually, the body of my first guitar (whenever I get around to it, no holding your breath please) will be rather like that, as I tooke a Tele outline and adjusted it slightly to my needs. How odd. Great minds think very much alike, eh Vankirk?
  16. Biohazard, are you talking about controlling a Whammy pedal from a guitar, a la Matt Bellamy?
  17. I agree with wes. Where the hell are the pickups and stuff going?
  18. Dye it black and red!! Very VERY cool variation on the tele theme with the sharper cutaway. You better load some real hot pickups in there. Oooooo and get a Mes Boogie Lone Star for more Texas vibe. Yeehaw!
  19. well, the thing is, despite what is actually happening, the audio taper pot (the one with the curved line graph thingy) sounds to our ears to be doing what the linear taper pot is doing. or so i've read.
  20. Very, Very classy. I love it. I'm gonna use P90's, and was considering using Tru Oil. I'm convinced on the Oil!
  21. silver? some sort of contrasting and pretty wood?
  22. NO, I want it! Oh yeh, I for got to ask, how was the spruce to work with? How strong is it? And could you just answer any question you think I may think of, as I'm having trouble thinking just now. Thanks
