  1. Eventually i think i will get the transformer done to my specs in late septemeber. It is cheaper than buying the hammond. However,. given your comment, i think i will ask for the same specs. Do you think is reassonable, or should i ask for other voltages. Thanks
  2. yes, i eventually got my password and posted a few times. I was actually really excited with making a pcb with pcb sockets like it had been done by someone (who was not able to publish it) for free. But i am really discouraged now because of the poor feedback. It looks like a great project, and maybe i was waiting for the same behaviour as in this forums which i think it is great. I don't know what i will do. if there is no one interested in an open project like that i don't see a point in doing it. btw, what are youre reassons against or in favour of pcb only designs. i see it as the easiest way, and since it is only a preamp maybe the statements are different to what it has already been heard off in other discussions. byes.
  3. ok, after studying schematics and missunderstanding everything XD, i've settled myself to build a soldano x88r. it's a rather ambitious project, and i´ll be spending my money on this instead of buying an v-twin pedal (as there was no need for it, just curiosity). I tried to register on the sloclone page but i am still waiting to get my accound activated, which is a week now, so if any of you know a moderator there and could help i would really appreciate it. on the other hand i´m looking at the schematic and the layout and find that the tranformer they use is different. 369Bx in the first one and 370cx in the second. Which should i use?? 369bx gives 150-0-150 in the secondary whilst 370cx gives 275-0-275. In my case they start with a 3 because in europe we need the universal series. another issue is with the parts list. I'm sure there is one already done, and i don't want to miss anything as i have to get a lot of things shipped from germany, so i would like to have a glance at it if any has it, please, let me know. I know probably this is all discussed on the sloclone forums. but i really can't have access, so if any of you could help me thank you, as soon as i have all the parts i will try to make a tutorial or sthg
  4. somebody was faster than me anyway thanx for the help.
  5. hello, i've just seen a post in a forum selling an ada mp1 for 100 euros and i'm about to go for it, but need your help. The user claims that the distortion channel has lost strength and volume "probably" because of a bad tube. Now, this probably seems a bit suspicious, but anyhow, is it posible?? i think it is a good price por the unit, and i'm willing to use it with my poweramp. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you
  6. also, i will replace the speaker with a celestion g12t75 if i remember rightly. i´ll tell you what it sounds like!!
  7. hi, i know some of you have one of these. I got mine today and the first thing i've noticed is that it hums more than what i'm used to, is there any mod you know of that reduces this?? i've read the mod documents i've found and have read that throwing in a master volume reduces it at lower volumes. i will put it as soon as i come back from holidays. what else could i do?? maybe it's just a bad design and there's nothing to be done?? hope not. thank you
  8. sorry, gimp is the free mans photoshop ;P
  9. great, cos i've just won a peavey classic 30 in ebay (valve junior will have to wait). and i was looking at the schematic only to realize that the effect loop on it doesn't have a bufffer at the return. It is just fed into the power stage. Is there any advice against unbuffered effect loop. i'm sure i will not have any problem with my current rig, as i have already been using it with an unbuffered loop without problems. but besides signal level, what may be an issue?? Geo: lot of thanks for your explanations.
  10. This is the thread it's called The Nebula. i like it very much
  11. looks like you didn't use a router bit with bearing. the bearing keeps contact with the template so you don't cut through it
  12. in this one, would the break point between the preamp and poweramp stage be after c3?? the second valve stage looks to me like the phase inverter of the previous, am i right??
  13. Then it's not adviseable to leave out right??
  14. this is what i will probably be doing. put a piece of wood cut the depth between the guitar's body and the pickup and cut down the length of the screws so they don't reach the body. The piece of wood is glued to the body's cavity: dark brown = guitar light brown = new piece of wood black = pick up red = screws
  15. ok, i've done this on a strat i call frankenstein and i don't mind hurting, that's what it is for. but i want it to replace the bridge pick-up of my fernandes strat, wich i like, and i don't mind cutting its pickguard because it's just a piece of plastic. in the frankenstein i had to make holes for the mounting screws (it's not dog-ear) and the holes just made it across the wood into the back where the springs of the bridge live. do you know anyway i could mount it without doing that holes?? thank you

    Preamp

how would you go to mod a valve junior so as to use it as a power amp?? do you think chaining to another valve in the pre stage would be enough or that i would have to completely bypass it?? what tubes do you suggest as a replacement?? 12at7?? 12au7?? i´ll be getting one at the end of the week and i would really like to mod it quickly so i can take it on holiday XD
  17. if i wanted to add a whole tone stack, i could replace the tone pot with a more complicated one (thre pots like marshall or fender do?) and also have a second master volume where you suggest to cut the preamp, after c6 right?? does it make sense. Also, it seems sensible to me that an external preamp input could be added after c6 before the master volume to use an external preamp (like my gt-8) and use only the power amp. This makes sense because lately i've been doing so with one of my amps and it seems to me that it is more relevant to my ears to have a valve power stage than a valve preamp. does this have sense to anybody else?? however i always rely on valves for crunch, but i usually end up having a clean sound and a high gain sound... i plan on getting one of theese at some point, but for now i've settled on the better documented valve junior for a first contact with poweramps. ;P

  19. if you had no volume pot or tone pot, what would the set-up look like?? it just came to my mind, and i haven't found any schematic. thanx
  20. hi, i´m studying schematics in order to build a preamp and have come accross this one. the second tube U2/1 U2/2 in the schematic appears in a new configuration for me, can somebody explain what difference exists between the first stage and the second. i´m used to seeing both stages like the first one. thank you

    Preamp

sort of what is said here. i guess i´ll just try building a preamp and just adding a pot at the end to have control over the output volume, exactly like in the real mctube, but i´m sure it has also to do with impedances, how is this??? i don't know much about the electronics theoretical backup though, i´ve always wanted to learn, but i´d rather pick the soldering iron with someone else's design, tooooo lazy and c'mon, i know there is really knowleadgeable people out there, i did search the forum, promise, not found anything however, please help me

    Preamp

okay, it was long time since i didn't surf that web. The contents are much better now. all the models of preamp, man, i like it. the point is, can i just put one in a pedal like the mctube??? it would be killer and i use the preamp stage of my engl screamer in my effect loop as preamp, i do not use the boss' i just love the sound, but i suppose that with another amp could be different. with my electa i haven't played much yet, playing is always long with the boss, too many pots and params, i just love it. any comments on the preamps isolations would be really wellcome. thank you very much

    Preamp

hi, i just bought an eleca eg-50t head, which when opened up seemed to be an american design sthepens or stevens, i can't remember. The point is that i was modding it for an effect loop. it appeared like the connections where hidden in the front panel but the guts where just prepared for it. eventually the effect loop it came with was parallel and i needed serial to go with my gt-8 (cracy reverbs and funny stuff) so i just took the output from the preamp into the gt-8 and the output of the gt-8 into the poweramp. Anyways and sorry for the bla bla bla but i needed to freak out a bit the point is that being a gear junkie and having the amp a couple of days at home made me wanna have a valve output stage at home and not a ss tiny amp, what is gonna make me buy a valve junior rip off called harley benton. now, i want to use it as a power amp. I´ll replace the preamp tube with a 12au7 for less gain. For the shake of modularity, i tought that i could have myself a preamp (high gain) so i could use it at home and with the eleca, which lacks a bit of heavy metal sound sometimes. The point is that, having analyzed some schematics: can i just take the preamp schematic and clone it forgetting about the poweramp. I know i should keep al voltages and stuff the same. What are you thoughts on this?? my idea was a slo100 preamp or alike. thank you
