  1. Cheers, do you paint your bolt on neck pockets? Any one else wanner lend their 2 cents?
  2. The nearest one is reading unfortunatly. There is a constructional timber place opposite where I work and I have been meaning to ask what they sell, but Im expecting to hear something like mdf block board ply wood etc, nothing decent I imagine. I am really BASing (builders aquisition syndrom ) to make the bigger brother of my 6 string RG (a 7 string baritone with blackouts) but the wood bills just kill me.
  3. I went half and half with my dad (I nearly didnt have to pay anything but I insisted on contributing) so it was £400 but Im a kid and have no bills to pay so its not that big a deal, I mean I could be saving for uni etc but **** it and I definatly plan on doing more guitars, I can think of at least 5 I want to do I could be doing that for people but I dont have access to raw timber to cut up and sell on which is a shame, need to find me some lumber yards
  4. If all goes well with the swirling I've got a few suprises in store as far as the pickup rings go
  5. Yeah Ive got this beast http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axminst...dsaw-364409.htm Jelous? haha
  6. The headstock will be finished to match the body so you wont see it
  7. Thanks for all the kind words and the constructive criticisms
  8. Why did you bid on it if you wernt trying to win? lol
  9. When people make custom versions of teles with nice woods and such then they claw back some points from me, but the shape at the end of the still still bugs me (I'm not a big single cut fan as it is) It depends what you mean by mass produced, are we talking the bog standard woods and finishes? Say a sunburst strat is exotic as we are allowed, or are we talking any mass produced guitar, because PRS wipes the floor with the competition in that respect (IMO) but they are still very exotic mass produced guitars.
  10. Hey on bolt on necks do you guys clean coat the bit that is incontact with the body wood or do you mask that section off and just clear coat the rest of the neck? I know some people leave the neck pocket free of paint, so I was wondering if they do the same for the corresponding neck tenon. Cheers Neil
  11. I dont think it entirely comes down to traffic, because PG doesnt get as much traffic as say ultimate guitar but seems to get a lot more bots, and UG has a huge traffic rating. Also another forum I use to run has been open for many years and has never had a bot and thats had a lot more traffic than the forum I own that has been open for less time and has had a bot (they're both invision boards so may be they get less bots) So its down to luck as well, (although I do agree traffic is more likely to get bots).
  12. Telecasters are IMO the ugliest mass produced guitar ever made, I hate everything about them, the single cut, the pickguard, the bridge, the controls, the headstock, ugly ugly ugly! /holds up flame sheild.
  13. That all depends on how you design it. If you have the bridge and nut already place them 27" apart and draw a line connecting the nuts F# string to the bridges F# string and the nuts e string to the bridges e string and that will give you the taper of the strings, add a couple of mm either side and thats your neck/fretboard width.
  14. Does it not bother any one that the measurements are still ONLY in inches its doing my head in, its such a silly way of measuring things (no offence america) 1/64 and 54/386th of an inch etc at least melvyn offers both as a comprimise.
  15. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=878759 Massive picture warning!
  16. You dont need two truss rods or a 5 peice neck. I think the RG2228 only has the one truss rod, but two is a consideration. But I would advise on at least a 3 peice neck, more than that is mostly aesthetics.
  17. Obviously it may not be for the acoustic builders amoung us, but I think it suits the RG body very well Heres a mock up of progress so far...
  18. Hey PG I have just about finished construction of my first guitar, its taken me a while to pluck up the curage to post this so go easy on me haha sorry about all the links I didnt want to break any rules... Just the rings to mount and thats all the holes drilled and all I need to do is inlay the FB and then I can radius and fret it, and then shape the neck and the construction will be complete, then begins the task of finishing it... 19. Its weird because the forum I own has the same registration process as PG (its invision so its slightly differnt, but you still choose a username password and click the agreement) and is no more secure than PG in any way, and yet it has only ever had one spam bot in two years, which is kind of weird. I also run an application process (its a game site) so the new member has to reply to a couple of questions about the game and then I approve them for full board access, that would help in that the new members could only be allowed to post in one area, but it will not stop the bots it will just concentrate the spam into one area, so more mods will ahve to be appointed to mod that section.
  20. By the way PG has an image size and number limit, it is suppose to be 1 pic per post no bigger than 640x480 pixels and the rest are supplied just as links. I thought I would let you know incase you melt some ones dial up
  21. I would say apoint a couple of mods, one from each time zone I own my own forum and have run 2 more in my time so I can do it if you want Its mainly in off topic chat that they go for so you can alocate mods just for that part of the forum.
  22. Hey why not line the case with tiger and panda skin while we're at it?
