  1. Hey, would you mind not double posting your questions. You have the same question posted 3 times in different sections, most people use the "view new posts" function, so we see all of them. Posting your question 3 times wont get it anwsered 3 times as fast.
  2. nowadays, they use ash on the full size bodys, alder on the new MM subs, and alder on the smaller body stingrays (forget thier name)
  3. My dad and I share a shop, so whenever we need a new tool we each pay half. Pritty nice system I think. 9" bandsaw (got a 14" im trying to fix up, but its missing a few parts) 3 routers (porter cable, craftsman, craftsman) and a table for it, and about 15 different bits. 10" table saw floor drill press about 6 drill bit assortments chop saw tons of hand saws 2 different belt sanders, and 4 stationary tabletop sanders professional chissle, and file sets. spokeshaft, bench plane, ect.. jig saw glueing station, lots of clamps and vices. as I said, my dad has paid for most of these, but I payed half of the router, bandsaw, and drill press and a few other things and yes krazy derek, the next thing on my list is a few years of experience, after that, a spray booth and a thickness planer.
  4. Hey, I got a set of Jazz pick ups for a bass im building.. but I decided that I would rather use a different kind of pickup (a music man style pickup) so I am selling these actually cheaper than I got them. And I got them used :-P Ill let them go for 25 bucks, or maybe a trade. FREE SHIPPING!! specs: 1 set of passive select (by emg) jazz bass pickups. Used, but in good condition. Ill also send over some schematics for wiring a jazz bass, and if you buy now, ill toss in a FREE POT! (i ordered 1 to many ) Select is to EMG, as Squire is to Fender. PM me and we may be able to work out somthing else.
  5. hey mikestro! i like your avatar, bassstreet right? I second what skibum has said. On the soap bars, you can get just about anything out of them, but they are usually active, so are most MM bass pickups. I think the best passive tone is from Jazz pickups, but that my opnion. P's sound real great, but its hard to get different sounds out of them. Not very much tone control with them ive noticed.
  6. I paid 36 bucks for um too.. ya win some, ya loose some
  7. Yes, cherry is *very* bright. My uncle has a cherry dobro that he let me barrow for a while, and even for a dobro its very bright. Its beutiful tho!
  8. I would think that epoxy would do the trick.
  9. I also wear gloves with everything excpt the band saw (wouldnt want it to get caught up in there) I sanded a knuckle once, and learned my lesson. It took 2 months to heal
  10. If a brass plate wont stop it, I doubt some plastic goggles will! :-p but its still good for wood chips. I just wish router bits werent so damned expensive.
  11. wow, what dyes did you use on that red to yellowish one? verry nice.
  12. I think thoes are actual screws. Or the head at least. I think that because they are counter sunk into the board. But You wouldnt be able to put a real screw in because it would catch on the truss rod if in too deep.
  13. nother question. Hows tung oil look over dye?
  14. May as well wes. This is turnin out to be very informative. perry, I would love to see your method. You will have time to screw the man over later, I promis.
  15. well hell, Im just going to order some dyes and try it anyway. will bleaching crotch walnut make it loose its figure? or will the dye bring it back. heres a picture of the peice im going to use.
  16. Christ. I thought I got a good deal with thoes things too. all I had to hear was EMG and I figured they would be great. any one want to buy a set of selects ? :-D
  17. Do you know of any way to use rub on dyes to get a slight burst effect?
  18. Drak, how did you do the edge darkining on your guitar that one GOTM? (the one with the crotch walnut top) Did you use a stain, or some kind of spray system.
  19. haha. And once again a violation of the number 1 rule of guitarbuilding. MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE.
  20. For bass, I use Dean Markleys blue steel. they sound GREAT. But they are expensive, and tend to wear out quickly. But new, they sound better than any other bass string ive heard. Thomskin (sp?) round wound jazz strings are also good, and dont wear as quickly.
  21. Use a tuning fork! You just need to get one, for lets say G. Then tune your G string to that, and relitivily tune to that using 5ths, or harmonics. thats what I use to do untill I lost mine. (EDIT) oh, sorry I didnt see that you wanted to use it as a collage project.
  22. If you can order them let us know, Because I wouldnt mind getting a couple of thoes myself. thanks
  23. hey wes, do you know anything about the select Jazz (bass) pickups?
  24. I dont think he means shaping the neck. Are the 'ripples' on the top of the neck blank, or on the sides? Is it already profiled? pictures?
  25. Ivan is starting to sound like camcool. I thought he would have picked up on the hint you gave him. anyhow, Ivan, just download autocad. It only takes an hour or so, and its free. And that way you can draw yourself some sharp pointy V's.
