  1. . I have seen one sanded down it looked like Mahogany. i don't think that was what it was but simmilar grain and color to it. i think the first thing you need to do is spend 3 min with your guitar and a screw driver and figure out if the routing is acceptable then make your game plan from there. what ever its made of its proably close enough for this project if it will work
  2. do a google search i remember ending up on a site a while back that had a very detailed cloning of that guitar down to the proper way to drill the wholes in the proper year quarter. and Pete is right some of those squires had a bathtub or HSH routing i think my mim has a HSS but not sure any way just hit ebay or what ever you prefer and pick up a body just did a quick ebay search and found this ebay btw no affilation just the fist think i found
  3. you could go to the sign shop and have a thin decal (logo or other design) cut that will cover that area then bury with a few coats of clear sand and buff.
  4. personaly i wouldn't mess with it unless changing a pot might hurt the value of the guitar. If its a modern (no collectable value) guitar just through a new pot in there.
  5. i don't think you will get the cover off a emg without hurting something check here http://www.universaljems.com/cart/pcover.htm there is a black plastic cover toward the bottom
  6. Ok yall are making this really hard and its not. yes it can be done. no it aint easy. bolt the neck on the guitar and move the bridge to the correct location to make the scale right.
  7. yeah i got a buddy that does some airbrush that looks a lot like real flame early on in the process you might look on youtube and see if there is any info on how to do real flame and maybe modify the way they do that to suit your design.
  8. Pickgaurd looks great i love wood pickgaurds they add a lot to an otherwise boring part of a guitar.
  9. have you done a search to see if you can find some sound clips. i did a quick search on youtube and if you want my opinion if it gives you the sound you want who cares what brand or how much if you play a 100 dollar guitar though a 50 dollar pawn shop amp and it sounds like you want thats all that matters.
  10. i was thinking about making a leather pickgaurd so i guess i could see why someone would want to slap a cow on there guitar.
  11. well i have short hair and never grew it out because after a few months of not cutting it i end up with a really funky fro its just easier to keep it short. in the past few years i have gotten where i just keep it so short i don't even have to comb it just get out of the shower dry with a towel and im good to go. i like life being easy.
  12. the pa2 is a fixed preamp it is adjustable but it uses a set screw that is mounted on the back of the unit. it can be used with a active or passive pickups but im not sure if it can be used to mix the two
  13. You dont' have to wet sand with finer grit paper but the water helps keep the paper form loading up so fast. but no you don't have to wet sand you can dry sand but your gonna use a lot more paper especialy on a soft finish.
  14. i don't know if its right but here is how i have my strat with vintage style trem set up 1st i loaded it up with all 5 springs then i tightened the trem screws down and backed them off a half turn then i cranked the springs down util the back to the trem plate is about 1/16" off the body. and now its fairly stable.
  15. Go down the radio shack and get you some tv antana wire that sould do away with the capacitance but you may have problems with hum. J/K Sorry couldn't resist.
  16. Dude thats Pretty cool have you though of entering it in GOTM?
  17. have you tried to swap the leads on the middle pickup?
  18. LOL i had visions of someone trying to use screws or something.
  19. The wires in a amp are fairly heavy gauge and they don't get moved that much so it holds up fine. btw in my humble opinion i think that all the "mojo" associated with cloth is bs its just a way to get you to spend money.
  20. wow thanks thats a nice little tip that i never though of.
  21. yeah i am thinking about swaping the knobs out for chrome ones if so they will have a set screw. that should solve the problem this time.
  22. So i was tearing down a guitar for a friend of mine today and i managed to mess up both pots while pulling the knobs i tried the t-shirt thing and still messed the pot. btw this is a old lp flat top copy with these Knobs so any advise for next time?
  23. what do you guys think about automotive poly?
  24. Well it not any kinda rule but this site tends to be more oriented to the guitar it's self.
  25. the fire fly is a pretty cool little amp i have recently been doing some reading up trying to learn a little theroy of amp design and the out put on the firefly is pretty cool and unique. simple cheap build to and the pcb makes it that much easier.
