  1. you cant feel the stripes after you paint them...paint is pretty thin and you dont need but a couple coats.....paint white first, mask off white stripes, then paint it red...the black stripes are reversed masked over at the end.....you want to buy the blue 3m stripping tape, for the wolfie you need 3/4 inch, 1/4 , 1/8 be sure to check the tape where each crosses another, there you will need to make sure there are no gaps.....also, if you want a pro job, spray blender(paint without pigment, clear) between each color so you can sand out the overspray if you need pictures of eddies guitars, you can find them on my website under fan guitars or email me
  2. i may have located some by the way.....ill let you know when i know more
  3. thats what it was, they just expanded the line....how do they stack up to other paints?
  4. i havent experienced a minimum with anyone, but i usually by several hundred dollars worth......theres a place in new york that is pretty good on small amounts and they dress it for you........wood ply is the name...best to find it local and develop a relationship
  5. pop rivets, well im off to the hardware store ive been looking to have these made anyway......i call a few people in the biz and see if i cant get some secrets from them
  6. youll never find the ferrules for the top of the body that you want....everyone wants those...those are usually specially made for a company.....after researching it a bit, ive discovered that even a lot of the major companies have given this up....ther only company that i can think of that still uses special ferrules is jackson...i know the guy that does most of their machining(and fenders too), and he never supplied them.... .what a lot do now is to use the same ferrules as you do on the back of the guitar on top....esp, schecter and a few others are doing this now....i have in the past used copper tubes that i polished nicely for the top....they worked pretty well....if you want to do try this let me know, ill send you six brass tubes gratis.....
  7. thats a good price for a blank, if you cant make your own....thats african mahogany though, its not a true mahogany per se.....honduran mahogany is the best and what you want...also, its pretty common to find mahogany in 12/4 or wider ..so you could actual call up a wood supplier and have them cut and plane some for you at a cheaper price and you have instant blanks! that auction was around $15 bft, whereas you could get it dressed from a supplier for around $7 bft
  8. if its catalyzed, then just scuff and paint whatever you want......im not too familiar with acrylic, someone else can help.....useing differnt solvents ca help you narrow down what it is
  9. i thought the creatix auto air just came out like this month?
  10. good luck finding alder....it has really been scarce for the last year....it took me 3 months to get in what i have, 300 feet
  11. i dunno yet.....ive gotten pretty fast shaping with a pin router....but thats kinda dangerous.....the duplicarver will produce exact copies so you can have consistancy.....i think i need a larger bit/follower to get it done quickly....i may rough them in with the pin router and finish them on the carver....
  12. i dont know what sizes any of them are...i just know you cant have too many
  13. im still getting used to it...the big thing is setting it up.....you have to have the necks or anything you carve ligned up perfectly and then clamped down...takes a few minutes...i probably need to get a few more bit/follower sizes.....i did a couple of necks today......ive got about 10 to do tomorrow.....they came out pretty nice so far im not really going to do any bodies with it......im pretty fast on the pin router with bodies.....i may do the countours on it though....if its faster than how i do them now
  14. i dont remember what it was......or if it was...i usually email, i dont like that pm stuff...must not have been important
  15. a first review..... this is made with unbelievable tolerances....its rock solid....everything is machined perfectly.....these guys really know what they are doing......the travel of the arm and router is very smooth......there is no doubt this machine will last a long time......the whole thing appears to be made out of steel..... for some reason(im odd this way) the box it shipped in impressed me alot.......id like to hire whoever made that box...the skill that went into it was amazing....and plenty of wood screws holding it together.....which i salvaged cuz im cheap......plenty of poplar in the box to hold things down.....imay use the box for a nice planter or something
  16. there you go for the guy that wanted to make one......the one thing i was **** about was tolerances and exactness.....which is why i went with allred.....and after unpacking it and setting it up, im glad i did.....there are a lot of measurements to worry about in setting up, not to mention a level table....even the crate it came in was remarkably built....i doubt there are many machine shops that could duplicate it for that much of a savings
  17. ok here is a way of telling what it is ....take a rag and dampen with lacquer thinner and place on the guitar.....if after a few moments, the primer is softening, then its lacquer or other non catalyzed medium....if it never does anything to it, then its a catalyzed primer...mostlikely its an epoxy primer which is catalyzed
  18. oh im real bad with the pitchfork kramers.......try my friends sites, www.vintagekramer or www.abalonevintage.com
  19. nelsonite is what is used commercially to seal the necks....
  20. id say around 400-500 bucks.....
  21. simtec, they supply all the guitar manufacturers.....i generally buy their sanding sealer and the super clear.....i like to keep black and white super clear around as well and then mix whatever colors i want from there www.simteccoatings.com
  22. good points...that veneer is so thin and really soaks up liquid like a paper towel
  23. you can use a regular gun as long as you can change tips....it requires a larger 2.2 mm tip....and adequate pressure....the only drawback is that it takes a while to get used to shooting something that thick......but once you get it down, its dreamy...there isnt a more durable finish out there i use a devilbiss millinium gravity gun .....id like to move up to sata, but thats a big leap for a guy like me.....personally, i hope to have someone hired this week to do all the painting for me....i hate painting
