  1. if you guys need anything like this that you cant find elsewhere, let me or scott know......things like blanks isnt really worth making 5 or 10 bucks on......scott needs the practice anyway
  2. you want to spray the lacquer on lightly-tack coats.....after a few passes then you shouldnt have a problem laying it on
  3. there is a steinberger web page somewhere that has all that info...i think you can link to it from the music yo site
  4. this is such a tough argument.....people always seem adament about their choice.....ive played them all and abused them all....the ONLY trem ill ever use is the original floyd rose.....the others have all basically had their short commings......allthough, the original brass charvel flicker trems are nice
  5. the water transfers logos are a great thing to use if you got the right printer....i use them all the time.....one thing though, most of the gold logos dont come out that well unless they are little another thing you can do IF you do a lot of logos is get a silk screen made.....find a t shirt shop and talk them into making the screen for you....its pretty cheap and you use it over and over
  6. how will lacquer create more flip? i dont follow your reasoning, sorry
  7. what it is is a basecoat(like your black) is sprayed on and then a coat with the pearl suspended in blender while the basecoat is still wet....blender is basically the clear medium that is tinted with pigment to give the various colors....you spray that onto the basecoat while its still wet...you can get different size flakes as you wish and spray on as much as you wish......then you just clear it like a normal guitar....once you get pearls down you can move on to graphics like ghost flames and erie dess swirls doing pearls is more of an advanced spraying.....im not sure id waste the money if this was the first guitar you painted....you have to lay the paint down perfect since there will be no sanding
  8. depends on the clear coat you choose to go with and the sand paper you use if you need soap or not....i use the 3m micro grit papers to wet sand....but i dont wet sand the finish until im completely done with the clear coat....you want to make sure you have some hard finish on the guitar before you break out any water....and there really shouldnt be much sanding, just a general leveling..... you may want to address your painting technique......one thing that will definatly help is a decent gun....i was reading on a post somewhere about the guns everyone is using.....i cant stress the importance of a good quality gun....it will make your life so much easier....its something that you should definately save to get the better product......ive gone through endless cheap guns like everyone has...i probably spent more money on cheap guns than 2 or 3 good guns.....they are easier to maintain, you can get parts for them and they throw the finish the way its supposed to be....you also have to be sure to match your tip to the paint you use....there isnt a one size fits all....you also have to match the air pressure with the paint....if youre experienceing a lot of peel, youre compressor and gun arent set up correctly....i recomend Devilbiss or sata if you can afford it....and if you are serious....HVLP is good, i have a HVLP air system as well as compressed air...depends on the paint you use really....orange peel, fogging, runs or whatever are a rarity when you gain experience and learn what is going on and after all that, you have to understand the paint you are spraying; pot life and such.....if you wait too long between coats, you will have adhesion problems(see older guitars like charvels and some kramers AND definatly all those Ibanez darren swirls...notice how those seem to chip out easier than some other guitars? ive seen many where you could peel the clear off and leave the paint on....reason, no bonding because they either waited too long to clear or didnt use the correct clear) oh, i only use polyesters by the way, .,..which is a whole different animal, and sometimes urethanes for graphics
  9. do you mean do a replica of a anderson? i guess, ive never had one in the shop nor have i really looked closely....but i think its just a strat body w/ zero radius edges...i dont know what their cavity routs look like....but basically we can get very close with a pic
  10. you can buy a vacuum press for as low as $350.........1/4 inch is a little too thick to bend.....anderson uses 3/16 inch tops, most others use 1/8........you have to be careful using anything wet when bending, it can have an adverse effect on the glue joint...i buy my tops from the same guy that supplies anderson an a bunch of others in the industry
  11. im always looking for things i dont have, anything....im building quite the library of templates now the chrome thang is the real deal....i havent had the time to mess with it until now, so there should be some pics coming soon......im kinda waiting to finish all the cnc programs for my other company first.... i do know for sure that ill be chroming at least 2 jem bodies soon.....whatever else i dont know yet... i want to do them in batches first on another note, we were going through some western maple that i had in the shop the other day.....i was told it was figured maple when it was sold to me, but i pretty much blew it off as rhetoric since i got it for cheap......anyway, i was surprised at the figure we got when we prepped the blanks.....originally i was just going to do these as whatever bodies i needed....but the figure is too nice.....so we spent(me and scott r.) trying to figure out what would be best for it.....of course he suggested a jem or a vai greenie with rear routs.....im not too into what the vai crowd wants, so i dunno......any suggestions? of course i may just keep it for me
  12. I just wanted to say hi, im new here.....ive been on the links here for awhile but really havent had the chance to contribute much.....I run a custom shop as well as manufacture guitars here in Maryland.....Right now we are mainly paying the bills by manufacturing different guitar parts.....Not a day goes by that im not painting guitars and we make as many guitars as we can each week.....ill try to get here occasionally to field any questions or give some insight if needed...i know brian has done a tremendous job enlightening the masses, so im probably not going to be much help.....also, im probably not the best person to ask about doing things with limited tools(brian is), but if you want to know about the big machines im there
