No offense but the name isn't really in discussion right now, we've done too much flipping around with different names (we've done a lot: Manilla Folders, Bliss, None Of The Above --that was already taken and we foudn that out like 4 months into it-- Elbow, 9023, and now EBO) and EBO is the best for us, and we have to stick with one. I'll check out that plug in. I think I get it; so what it does is while your recording it keeps the input at the threshold level, and when your done, you can amplify the whole thing to the limiter level? Tender, what did u mean when you said "cut off at -10"? and we were definitely gonna start over on it.

what about the amp cabinet, how bout some info on that?

ok, so i checked it out, and it turns out the clipping in the mp3 comes from amplifying it all, and small peaks hitting the maximum volume within audacity. is there a way i can change the maximum volume in audacity so when i amplify the song as a whole it won't clip in the small peaks. when i say small peaks im talking about usually it happens in the vocals near the plosives, and stuff like that. and its only in those parts where its clipping.

ok so "in the wrong key" meaning in the wrong key compared to the rhythm guitar, i thought he meant wrong key compared to the actual verse vocals. so would the chorus part be a better rhythm part for the solo area than the verse/bridge riff? and instead of doing a mutilated version of the verse vocals, i should play around with the notes from the chords and see waht sounds good over the chorus guitar? that sounds like a better idea. thanks for the advice guys, im off to go play around with it.

so, this is the list ive come up with so far for improvement: song itself- 1. distort later in the transition from verse to chorus 2. start mellow then work up to louder in the soft part 3. mix things up a bit with the bass guitar 4. find something else for the solo (BTW as far as i can tell its the same key, ive switched back and forth from the actual verse to the solo a bunch and it sounds in the same key? maybe i have a bad ear) 5. mix things up a bit with the drums 6. do something different with the guitar fills in the verse recording- 1. give the bass more attack 2. do something about the plosives 3. mix the drums to where the bass drum/snare/toms can be heard easily 4. tweak around with the settings and see waht sounds best with guitar 5. heavy compression on the vocals (BTW i dont really have a clue what that means but i'll look it up somewhere, or if uve got a good site to explain it, or if u can explain it) 6. try getting a new pc (yeah im pretty young, 15, and although xmas is coming up i doubt i'll buy a pc with my money, i'll prolly get a new amp, cuz mine blows). tell me if im missing anything

did you mean vocal distortion, or distortion as in an electronic effect distortion loop over the screams?

both would be amazing, but i prefer more on the song writing part, because we will be playing the song live before the next time we rerecord it. and thats the only way we would be able to change any of these things because the computer i'm using is really old, so after having any more than 2 or 3 tracks it starts messing up. so i have to prematurely mix the tracks down. BTW if anyone knows of a better free recording program than audacity, point me to it.

what part does he lose the rhythm, i've only been playing for a little over 2 years. i didnt notice it. thats really odd cuz i played other mp3s next to this song and it soudned about the same ovlume wise. thats weird because sometimes it was maxed out in audactiy but still wouldnt be the right volume compared to other mp3s. also, the drummer actually does tear it up on drums when WE actually paly it, but we had to use a drum program so we couldnt add very good fills so we decided to stick with the steady beat. with the loudness of the soft part its the sound we're going for, the intrigueingly loud vocals compared to the instruments, its a new type of feel but its not that horrible depending on what ur used to. and we did edit individually each instrument seperately. theres advantages to recording all at once and recording seperately and with the low tech equipment/software i have, its really hard (tedious, etc.) to edit even single tracks.

So yeah, I was kinda nervous posting this because some of the most harsh/critical feedback with music comes from musicians themselves, but none the less i want the feed back. My band rerecorded a new version of one of our songs, with the new singer doing his part instead of the old guy. We are a christian band who doesnt really know how to describe our sound. You could compare us to screamo/harcore (Underoath, Dead Poetic, The Used) and grunge/nu metal (Nirvana, Seether, Mudvayne) mixed. The song is called Visions and its one of the 5 original songs that we play, and one of the two that we have recorded (the other isnt done being edited yet). yeah you probably just blew a fuse. they make them for just that reason.

this just came to me, tell me if i'm wrong. since the ground is universally the sleeve of the jack, and the sleeve is on the bottom, wouldnt it be pressing against the sheilding, ultimately grounding it, as long as the sheilding is all the way under the jack?

if the amp already has 1 speaker, and the speakers you found have the same impedence (resistance) as eachother, then the chances of being able to wire them to the right impedence are very slim. thats why most cabinets use 4 speakers, because using 3 will be really hard to match them up with the 1 speaker already in the amp, while still implimenting all 3. if your amp does have a switch, it would be less difficult to wire it up, most likely. you can wire your speakers to a lower imedence than your amplifier, but the quality won't be as good. and if you try wiring the speakers higher, you can really damage your amp.

that guitar is amazing... simply amazing.

i made a pedal that is just 2 volume pots (should have used just one, and ran the other one straight to the output, because theres almost no point in not putting one of them on ten all the time) and a switch to toggle between them. Its handy when you play in a band because you can switch between rhythm and lead all the time.

ebay can be challenging at times, because thre are so mayn different names that are used for one type of wood, some reccomendations are "curly" and "figured" and maybe instead of "flamed" use "flame" sometimes little things like that can make a big difference

I just got some aerosol deft lacquer. I have a couple questions. Is the stuff in the aerosol cans nitrocellulose as well as the stuff in the cuart cans? I got the one that is a white can with black writing on it, it says "gloss wood finish". Do you need to wait the usual 3-4 weeks for it to cure, and what exactly can't you do before it cures? Is it sandable, buffable, what?

sorry if this is thread jacking, but is there a reason why stacks are always stacked on top of eachother, could you 2 cabs from across the room? I know it would take up less floor space but for a guy whos 5'6" it would probably be worth it to take up more floor space than height. i think if your playing alone, 2 cabs apart from eachother is fun, ive used two amps locked together before across the room from eachother it sounded pretty sweet.

i have a question, could this be used as a sort of feedback effect? i know that it basically loops it around which is what feedback is (i think?) but i didnt want to go making it if noone has tried it. I was wondering if anyone who have built it could either try putting heavy distortion on it and dont mute the stirngs or if they've alreayd tried it tell me the results.

chevelle is so many bands mixed into one. definetely some tool influence. and i dont think they said whether they kicked their brother out of the band or the brother left by himself or if it was a mutual agreement. I think it would be easier to kick my own brother out of a band than my best friend? A brother is a brother, but a friend of yours can go his own way and you can never see him again. but I still think it sucks that hes not inthere anymore i always thought he added a good mix to the band. Its funny how long I've liked chevelle without getting the cd.
