  1. Just something you might wanna know. Sounds like a tremolno. Thanks man, but I think when you see his "trem stopper", you'll understand why the Tremol-No got rave reviews from everyone at NAMM. For those that want to check out Floyd's thingy (and screw into the body of your guitar, and have to use a wrench to turn it on and off), here's a highlighted pic for ya: http://jemfest.com/misc/kevan/FR-TremStopper.jpg Now that we're done with the silly stuff (LOL), how about some pics from NAMM? Ok... http://www.tremol-no.com/images/NAMM2004/ 7 is a pic of the two guitars I took into the NAMM show. 9-14 and "evil eyes" are from the Sat. night hang/BBQ/jam at Bob Oakman's place. 12 is an extremely dark pic of our own Vwall with the RG-EGYPT. 15 is Mike Martin (Tremol-No endorsee) 18 is Tremol-No Spokesmodel/Demonstrator Rob Keeler talking with Mystery (soon to be) Tremol-No User #1. 19 is Tremol-No Inventor (me) with Darren Johansen of About Time Designs. Yes- the swirl master himself. If I remember correctly, his Tremol-No is on one of his personal JEMY2K-DNA guitars. 20 is Mystery Tremol-No User #2. 21 is another pic of Mystery Tremol-No User #2. 23 is Tremol-No Inventor (me) with Mystery (soon to be) Tremol-No User #1. Guess the Mystery Users and win the admiration of your friends! :-) Maybe I'll get ya one of the cool "Tremol-No Equipped!" stickers. We had a FANTASTIC time, and every single person that checked out the Tremol-No absolutely loved it. There were a few small manufacturers that said, "That's amazing! I want the first one!". That made me feel really, really good. Oddest Memory Of SummerNAMM 2004: Watching Paul Reed Smith play an EB/MM Stingray 5-string while chatting with Sterling Ball and Floyd Rose. Just....kinda.....odd. Oh, and if you go to NAMM, and get invited out with the Graph-Tech guys, be warned. They'll say "Let's go get a few beers", but what you don't hear is the word 'hundred' before the word 'beers'. In Canadian, it's silent. LOL THANKS MARTY, DAVE AND TRINA!
  2. Hey all! Just wanted to update my buds here. We *will* be at Summer NAMM in Nashville, but in our licensees booth (main floor, far right side). I'll have the RG-ART with me, so you can't really miss us. LOL If you don't have a badge for the show, don't worry. We're doing PLENTY of jamming that weekend. Thurs. night we're hitting some bars on S.Broadway with some Canadian friends. If you're around, you're welcome to join us. Then Friday evening (right after the NAMM doors close), we're heading out to Bob Oakman's place for some BBQ/'adult beverages'/jamming. There will be PLENTY of guitars/amps/FX there, along with some cool folks- and members from this Forum! Feel free to contact me for more info, or just call my cell and we'll get hooked up with ya. (Cell number is on the Contact page of Tremol-No.com if you need it) On Sat. night, we're hitting Printers Alley. For those that don't know, this is a little alley (literally) that's packed with about 20 bars (and a few strip clubs) that has some FANTASTIC bands, and sometimes "guest" players that rock the house. Every bar is loaded to the rafters, and it's a great time, with some great bands. As for Tremol-No news: Check out the new Endorsees page. A whole bunch of new pics are up! Click on the name for their pic and what the artist has to say about the Tremol-No. The underlined link takes you to their site. Thanks for all your support with this. You guys have been fantastic. I look forward to meeting you at NAMM!
  3. Au contraire', mon frere'. Ed's original red/white/black guitar was a 1975 Linn Ellsworth ash body. I'm sorry, but if I could end up with more cash than Gates after a single summer stadium-only tour, he could screw my wife/girlfriend. My guess is that Ed would be broke after paying for all the psychotherapy necessary to let DLR back in the band. GET OVER IT, ED!!!! 3 hours a night, for 5 months, and you can buy Bermuda. THINK MAN! THINK! Sounds like Ed has Paul Stanley Syndrome. That's one of the worst diseases out there.
  4. Can I just say "A lot sooner than you think"? Does that help? See you all in Nashville.
  5. You'll need a plottter (a very large, flatbed printer).
  6. Rhino looks kinda neat, but you still have to have other software to do the rendering. I noticed that most Rhino users were using 3DS to render. That's cool and all, but SolidWorks does both in one package. I might have seen SW2003 on a couple of those P2P things (or I might not have). I might also have heard that they're only in Italian (or maybe not). I suppose if you're going to learn SolidWorks, might as well work on a romance language at the same time. :-P Even if you score it via a P2P, you don't get the manual. The manual is INCREDIBLY helpful. Check FleaBay for a used version of 2003, but remember that 2003 can't read 2004 files. For PC power, think about something from Alienware. LOL Just kidding, but you should get a quick machine. Check the site to see what they recommend, but I'd say something over 1 GHz. I'm a Mac guy, so.... SolidWorks is the only reason I have a PC. :-)
  7. Heh heh...no way. This is a little bit more advanced than Photoshop, so there are no "trial versions". At least none that I know of. You might be able to find SW2000 or SW2003 cheaper online somewhere (2004 files can't be read by 2003 so lots of folks are upgrading). If you do get it somewhere else, be sure to get the manual! The Viewer only allows you to view SLD files, and rotate/move/zoom them. It's basically QuicktimeVR for CAD.
  8. Hey all! Just a quick site update: Endorsee pics are up!!! I don't have photos from everyone yet, but these guys have sent me pics: - Carlo DeDios - Norm Hammer - Darren Hunt - Rob Keeler - Shane Regal - Butch Slusher ...and more pics coming soon!
  9. Yes- there are two versions (Gen. 1 and Gen. 2). The Gen.2 ones, like those found on the 620x guitars have a different, smaller preamp board, and the wires for the piezo elements under the trem are better protected. This version is easier to transplant, but still not a lot of fun. The guitar body must be routed out (for trem depth) and drilled out correctly for the pot and pushbutton switch dimension on the preamp. Aside from that, re-soldering the coax should be pretty easy for those with more than 10 hours of soldering experience. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  10. SolidWorks 2004. http://www.solidworks.com I don't use it for luthierie, but it can be used for that. Makes TurboCAD look like Pong. BTW- It's about $18,000. :-)
  11. Hardball- Gabe, Iain and I will be down there starting Tues. AM. I'd be cool to hook up for some "adult beverages" during the week. Just call the hotel and ask for the 'Jemfest Suite', or toss me an email and I'll get ya my cell number. It's always cool to have a local handy. :-) Snork- It's REALLY, REALLY, REALLY frickin' expensive to put this event on in NY. Tell ya what, if you cover the hotel cost, rental of the PA and all digital audio and video gear, webcast, and shipping of my gear to the hotel and back, we'll put it into consideration for 2006. :-P Until then, it's in Orlando. P.S.- Aren't flights from LGA to Orlando something silly like $79 ea. way? Might want to check into it.
  12. Yes- that's the I-Drive we're talkin' about. :-) It's a new location for us, so if there are any locals that know of the kickass bars and restaurants along I-Drive, let us know.
  13. I wish! There will be tons of other stuff that we will give out and raffle off. A couple of years ago, a guy won a brand new Ibanez guitar (w/case) with his ONE raffle ticket (I think it was $50 per ticket, something like that). Needless to say, he was quite happy. :-) It's a great time. If you can make it, we'd love to see ya. And great free music too!
  14. Hey folks! I'm sure you all have your plane tickets ready, hotel reservations booked, and guitars re-strung. Wha? You don't? Well, better get crackin'. I'll help you out with some links: Travel: www.travelocity.com www.orbitz.com Hotel: We're at a NEW HOTEL this year: Holiday Inn- International Drive Resort. Here's the link to book your hotel room. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/r...=mcoid&_GPC=JEM This link will get you the $72/night group discount rate for the Jemfest rooms. Sure, you can find them cheaper online, but you'll be subject to the terms and conditions of wherever you get them from (cancellation fees, other fun fees), and you probably won't be close to the Jemfest rooms in the hotel. It's a really big hotel, so being close to the jam rooms would certainly be worth the $6 you save going somewhere else to book the room. Your call. The hotel is at one end of International Drive. I-Drive is packed with restaurants, bars, shops, malls and other places to eat, dine and shop. There's a trolley that runs up and down the street, so you don't have to worry about driving. And yes- there's a Hooters right around the corner. :-) Artists & Schedule: How about this lineup- Friday, May 21, 2004 7:00PM- Mike Martin 8:00PM- Fernando Pareta (all the way from Argentina!!!) 9:00PM- Course Of Evolution 10:00PM- Bill Peck Saturday, May 22, 2004 7:00PM- Tony Smotherman 8:00PM- Rob Balducci 9:00PM- Strange Fiction featuring Eric Sands 10:00PM- Jemfest Jam (Of course the schedule could change because weather sucks, grandparents pass on, and flat tires happen every day) Here's the best part: Admission is FREE! FREE! FREE! We respectfully ask for donations at the door. EVERY PENNY OF PROCEEDS GOES TO STEVE VAI'S "MAKE A NOISE FOUNDATION". The Jemfest staff is *not* paid in anyway, and the artists are gracious enough to donate their time and talent to this incredible event. Where else are you going to get 7 *unreal* artists in front of you for free? You need more? How about the Jemfest Jam on Saturday night! Yes- you can get up on stage with the artists and rip out a song or two. Try that at a Britney show! The entire event will be recorded, with digital audio and digital video for release on DVD later on. Gabe's almost ready to release the first Jemfest DVD (with years 1999 thru 2001). I've seen some previews; it's frickin' awesome. So you say you can't make it down to Orlando this year? That's ok- we do a full webcast of the entire show....both nights! We will be webcasting from 7PM until Midnight on each night...LIVE...audio and video together...direct to your computer! No server crashes this year either. :-) What you'll not see on the webcast are all the "room jams" that happen thru the weekend. It's kinda kooky when you're crankin' out some songs in your room with your buddy and you hear Rob Balducci knock on your door, "Mind if I join you guys?". *THAT'S* as fun as it gets. So, get your reservations done, and get down to Jemfest this year. If you don't have a fantastic time, you get your admission refunded. :-) If you need any other information, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you all soon! www.jemfest.com P.S.- No: you DO NOT have to own or play an Ibanez or JEM guitar to join us. It's a GUITAR event; bring what ya got and enjoy the company! Maybe even whip out a few notes!
  15. Thanks Scott (from Actual Time), for posting that so I didn't have to...again.
  16. Yes, there is a way. In my J-Custom RG7-CST, they arranged the piezo element polarity similar on ever other saddle. Example (7-string): B= + E= - A= + D= - G= + B= - E= + On the preamp, there is a phase reversal switch, so each of those strings can be "flipped". This also helps if you're having phasing issues when running piezo and magnetic at the same time (a blessing when recording). The Double Edge double-locking trem system is built by Ibanez and LR Baggs. Im not sure if they do it in their stock models, but they did work with Ibanez on these trems, and you can barely hear your hand resting on the bridge. It's a pretty nice setup and works really well.
  17. Oooooooo.....how much is shipping on that "RARE AOL CD"?
  18. I know a few Ibanez-friendly guys in the ATL area as well. Email me if you need their assistance.
  19. Joey- are you in the NYC/Long Island area? I know a few fantastic techs in the area that are "Ibanez friendly". Let me know.
  20. Yeah....so rich....right. I'm so in debt the Enron guys point and giggle when they see me. I string all of my guitars (except the Tele), backwards: ball end at the tuners/machine heads. No matter how you wind/tie/knot your strings at the tuner end, having the ball up there is more secure and reduces any (if not all) slippage. I'm careful when I cut the wound strings; I bend them slightly 'ahead' of the cut, so they don't unravel when I make the cut down at the trem end. I cut them at the near side of the fine tuner knobs of the trem. This gives me about 2 wraps of string on the tuners; enough for an emergency string repair. Yes- you *can* do this with 7-strings as well. If I remember correctly, I'm running a 53 on my CST and UV, backwards. If it's really crucial to run your 61, you can drill out the hole in the tuner.........or just stop screwing around with guitar and get a bass. LOL I've never understood the "all at once" method of changing strings with some Floyd users. You can really only do one at a time, which is how I do it. I start with High E and work my way down. I tune it to pitch, then do the next one. This really helps to pre-stretch the strings (let the springs in back do the work for you!). It also helps maintain the tension on the neck, and reduces the chance of cracking due to the quick lack of tension, then slow gain of tension. If you really have to have all 6 off to do some kind of fretwork or clean the board, just pull the springs in the back of the trem, and lift the trem out. Voila! All 6 at once! If you're really, really, really into doing all 6 at once, you can do the dead-9V-battery-wrapped-in-duct-tape or eraser block under the trem.
  21. "two weeks"....exactly. Two dog weeks.
  22. I've only known you for 7 years. That's 49 dog-years. And, just to bring the rest of the folks up to speed, EVERY message from GE in the last two years has started with "How goes the revolution?". It finally stopped when he got his Tremol-No.
  23. "8 years"? From 2002 to 2004 is 8 years? Are we doing puppy math now? LMAO For the 'blue' Loc-Tite, try some acetone (finger nail polish remover). It works good on the 'blue' threadlocker. For 'red' (aka permanent) threadlocker, use heat. In my world, 1/8" is HUGE. That's more than 3mm! I tried to design a T-knob for the thumbscrews, but the "t's" were all way too large to fit inside a trem cavity. I'll see what I can do about that. I'm glad to hear your uber-crappy Floyd is now working great as a hardtail for ya.
  24. The Santa Bunny speaks! Sorry about the Loc-Tite thing. It was only 'blue', so it should have been fairly easy to remove. I guess manly strings don't necessairly give you manly finger-strength. Since your first IM about how hard they were to remove, the Loc-Tite has been shelved. The nylock inserts should work just fine (see previous posts in this thread). Sorry- but that's what you get for being a tester. LOL As much as I tried to compensate for EVERY guitar EVER built, the Tremol-No might not work in all of them. Some will have the claw screw holes drilled too high so the plate can't go on (or too low and the claw will touch the bottom of the cavity before it's set properly), some will have holes drilled un-square, etc. Pick a freaky anomaly; there are hundreds available. It's that damn Murphy and his damn law. In my $149 super-store "anniversary sale again this week" Strat, the claw mount screws aren't square either (angled in toward each other by about 2mm on each). In my testing, that doesn't affect Tremol-No usage at all. Let me know how your long-term tests turn out with those manly-man strings. Sorry about the stroke, GE. I told ya it was on it's way.
  25. If you're kidding, ha ha. If you're serious, it's about $900 to ship a vehicle cross-country (7-10 days time). Less distance = less cost. What model is/are the: Drums? Condition? Price? CyberShot? Condition? Price?
