Man BigD nice find. What are you looking to get for the jointer? What are the specs on it? I live in Grand Rapids MI. so not too far away. If the price was right....
Drawing guitars in 2D is pretty staight forward. 3D gets to be a PITA when you try to do complex things like the carve of a Les Paul top or a neck. I've tried both surface modeling and solid modlers (Solidworks) and I found surface modeling worked best for me as far a getting CNC machinable drawings. I just couldn't get the solid modeler (solidworks) to do what I wanted it to do. I used Mastercam to design the les paul in this thread:

I just read an article in WOOD magazine where they showed a thickness jig very similar to what Setch is using, only they had the router mounted to a sled or base that would span wide enough to do a body blank. This way you would not have to reposition the guide rails.
orgmorg,
I am looking at purchasing this same unit. Other than the 110v motor, are you happy with it? Did you upgrade from the 30 micron bags? How loud is it really compared to a shop vac?
Are you just using the laser to mark the fret position and the outline of you inlays or are you actually cutting the slots to depth and rough pocketing the inlays? are you cutting shell?
If you have a drill press and a sharp drill you can probably drill the hole yourself. The arbor in these presses is not hardened. Drill the 3/8 hole vertically and then drill and tap a 10-24 set screw to tighten the arbor in place
All I have for a dust collector right now is a shop vac. I was hoping to come up with something quieter so I can sand without waking up the kids. I've read different places about people using squirel cage fans, but I haven't found anything very specific.
