  1. i have a mighty mite alnico motherbucker, and i havent used it yet, but i have heard lots of good things about them. Plus the price is great.
  2. hey. matts usually on all the time, and its been over a week since ive seen him... anyone else heard from him?
  3. they (lmii) told me a fingerboard would be about 25 dollars shipping on top of the cost of the fingerboard itself. I found a local supplier who is just going to grab some cocobolo and make me up 2 boards... for a sixstring bass. so like 30"x5" or so.. and its only 40 bucks. plus they send pics of the wood i want to buy. think 40 bucks CDN? is good for 2 cocobolo six string bass blanks?
  4. Has anyone ever found a sitethat sells wooden inlay dots? I am looking for 2 sizes, small ones for the side, and big ones for the front. I had considered getting plug cutters, but therye costly, and dont go small enough. any suggestions? Thanks
  5. Skibum, I like that idea too. I had sent it to Philmailloux in a PM previously. Do u know if they just inlay a little piece or if they slot n fill from the bottom instead of the top? I saw it and thought it was cool. I saw a yamaha lined fretless, and your could feel the frets. it was gross. but i like the mosaic board phil.
  6. I have not build anything yet. not even a template. and since i joined, i have read threads and whatnot, for at least half hour a day . trying to learn as much as i can, so that when i start i will hopefully have an easier time. not easy time. but i will know a few tricks here and there. I think knowing as much as you can is important. I am trying to learn from others mistakes. hope it helps make my mistakes fewer.
  7. F bass This is way cool, and i have always wondered how its done. do you seal the grain and use a certain type of stain? can you do other colours? Thanks
  8. I'm making a bass, and ive got the shape, and was curious about the upper horn, and the size it should be. Ive noticed many basses, If you look at them in playing position, the horn is lower than the forearm rest. Is this important to making a design? Can you make it higher than the forearm rest? whats the effects of doing this? Thanks
  9. death to bass players eh? i thought this was the perfect thread till i read that.... Im jk. but yeah i love the guitar. it looks sweet. those keyless tuners are cool too. dunno how it would look in the long run tho. ud have to do a mock up.. did u ever see the bc rich guitars with no tuners at all? they were ugly.. but yeah if it lets u keep the headstock shape, go for it. that things sweet
  10. well since most 6 strings r 3-3 1/2 " wide, i think id need about a 4 " wide pice. and at least 28 " long my fretboard is 27" long and itd be nice to have some extra length.
  11. Hey there, im looking to find a fingerboard, hopefully radiused, for a 6 string bass. cocobolo preferably. but its going on a canarywood/maple/canarywood body, so im looking for something brown or dark. any pointers?
  12. what did you use for top ferrules? looks great. love the tuners
  13. The BC riches that are acrylic are cool as hell too. I love the way they look, but yeah the wires kinda suck. i have a neck off a bc rich bich thats got the acrylic headstock, and it feels pretty ddamn heavy and thats just the headstock. mind you it still has the hardware, but i know how much they weigh, and its still heavier than a wood neck with harware that i have. its scarf jointed, so the acrylic ends around the 2nd or 3rd fret. but i bet the body is pretty heavy on any acrylic guitar. but its all bout the look. my red acrylic headstock is going on a pointy flat black weapon of death. hope it turns out ok
  14. try joe lado, or go to bunny bass, and look at the canadian builders on the list they have. i dont have a link, but theres like 20 or so builders in canada, im sure one of em could help ya out. or get in touch with LGM maybe.... not too sure. havent gotten near that stage yet.
  15. thanks... i am not very familiar with this... "Add a little gain to the first stage, slap a volume control after the output, and you've got instant preamp - you can even delete the input cap and raise that first resistor to about 500K if you're using passive pickups." is this what i need to do to make it a preamp? or is already a preamp? so there is a series of 3 pots with a high, low and mid right? is the boost/cut label another pot? the mods you listed make it more ideal for a bass, or do i need to do them? thanks
  16. Yeah, i was gonna say, Les Claypool would love that thing... keep it up. GOTM.....
  17. Hi there, I am new to electronics, but have been lurking about. I want to make a bass preamp, and was wondering what aspects go into designing one. I was thinking of a high mid and low boost, and i was going to use a volume knob per pickup. What other elements should I add, or is this enough? would i look for a preamp circuit, like the jfet ones i see, or do i make a boost circuit. what are some good boost circuits i can use to make a preamp? i am new to this and would like to learn more. thanks
  18. yeh. it was on hold for someone at songbird. i had never seen the FP in the flesh. yeah neck transplant... they had alotta BC rich necks for 25 bucks too.... got myself some of those gotoh tuners... cheap...dont buy em all brian.
  19. I saw a nice guitar at a shop today, it was 700 bucks canadian, and it was an Ibanez Jem 777 with the steve vai curtain job, made in japan, with an rg50 neck. It was looking pretty cool. those claw marks are deep. thought they were just 1/8" grooves. nice looking body. dont get to see much in my area as our music shop is a les paul/strat only kinda place. while i was looking at guitars, i also got some parts for cheap! wish it was a local store. is 700cdn a good deal?
  20. yeah i hear ya. may have changed my mind... plus i get the electronics with emgs.... hmmm. thanks maiden....
  21. well im into alot of hard rock, and sinceim going with only one in the bridge, i was thinging i should go for something hot. I was looking at the mighty mite motherbuckers... they're wound to 21.6 k output. think they will be any good? harmony-central reviews them well. any similar pickups out there?
  22. Are there any humbuckers worth the money in the under 30 dollar price range? Or will they all sound bad? Im looking for a single humbucker for a guitar. Anyone have any experience with any under $30 pickups? Thanks
  23. looks cool for the price, mind you the heastocks a lil ugly, wonder how it sounds, and what the fit finish is like on it. someone bought a les paul copy that turned out to be not wat expected
  24. yo matt, looks like you get alot more accomplished than i do... wish i had the time to get started soon. but its gonna be a sweet axe. maples pretty heavy though for a whole axe. but its doable. i cant wait to see more progress.
