  1. sorry to hear about ur place Lizard_King. as far as sounding like an asshole dont worry about it. in my 18 years of life ive leanred that there is no such thing. some just speak thier mind more than others. as far as my explorer some one already wants to it and i havent even statred it. the guy who wanted told me exacly what he wanted and this neck it out of the picture. the only reason im trying to get rid of it is that i need tuners and pick ups for another project.
  2. as AlGeeEater said (.....The heel looks like a block of wood and i dont see any frets). there is no heel to it yet and is just a block right now. there are no frets on it nor a fingerboard. there is no truss rod slot in this neck.
  3. it looks wrong because its insanly long and maby the lines i had on it are croked. now that i look at it i think is would make more of a Baritone neck rather than a normal neck. as far as wood i could be wrong, thats why i put a question mark by it in my first post. my dad thinks its maple and he knows a thing or two about woods. if anyone knows what kind of wood it is please let me know.
  4. go here for pics http://community.webshots.com/album/234968873PloiBc As far as price make an offer, i am also looking for black gotoh style tuners (6 inline) or a decent pair of humbucking pickups if u have those and are willing to trade.
  5. i have a maple neck (i think) for sale. origanaly i wanted to build one but due to winter in oregon and lack of a shop for warmth im going to sell this. it has a 12 degree angled head. i am not sure if this will work since one of the sides looks like it was chwed on a little. maby if u plane it it will work. also has nails in it, ive taken a few out but there are 2 or 3 left. it is a little over 24 inches long on the fretboard suface (30 1/2 total). after some planeing and shaping this could make a great neck. ill have pics up by the end of tomorrow. any questions email me.
  6. AlGeeEater normaly im not much of a strat guy but this one is freakin sweet!!! keep up the good work.
  7. its true, pine is very very soft. when i first made a concept strat guitar(i have so much pine and time to waste) i droped it and it dented like crap. As far as tone dont get ur hopes up. it produces such a thin sound that its barly there and with distortion is sounds like the crap. im willing to bet that a wal mart guitar would sound better than pine.
  8. i jsut noticed after that last post i became a fourm regular!!!
  9. I have checked that site out, and to behonest i have no cule on how u get it to print or even get the messurements right. Also at the school i go to they have a palsma cam machine that runs off of those type of files useing a CAD program. the only problem is that only the kids in the drafting department are the only ones allowed to use it since they have experince. but i get to use it by the end of spring
  10. from what ive read im going to try both methods. my friend has a les paul with the neck angle and i have a jackson with the bridge recessed. thanks to all who have replied to this post!
  11. the templates at this site i found are 50 bucks. i asked if they just sold the one for th body and they said no. if i could get a template i would be stoked. i only wanna sell this one so i can save some money up for my next guitar: a neck thru flying V with a broken mirror as a top.
  12. it is smaller than a normal explorer since i dint use a template. As far as the wood it is a cheap peace of plywood (pine?oak?) and its only 3/4 thick. i have plenty of this wood laying around my house and i use it mainly for templates. what i ment to say was that if i could get 40 bucks for that shape of the explorer. PerryL - thanks for pointing out that the grain was in the wrong direction, i really didnt take that into mind that it has to go from left to right (wood shop all over again ), u also saved me some embarrisment if i were to cut the alder with the wrong direction of the grain. thanks again
  13. i recently bought the book "make your own electric guitar" and it has help me lots o times. well it dose mention how some guitars need a neck angle in order to have the strings at the right hight. it then descucess about the angle. It also has a pic of a mid 1960 Gibson SG with the fingerboard raised above the body that elimintes the neeed of an angle. well it dosent give a ceratin amount that u need to rasie it. dose any one out there know how much i would have to raise it in order to not have to have an angle? Ive also read that u can recess the bridge, how deep would i have to go in order to do this right?
  14. do u think i can get about 40 bucks for it and a neck with a jackson style headstock but i made it so its not pointy and rounded it. its still in the erly stages of being a real neck, yet alone looking like one.
  15. i didnt have a template so i managed to really just sketch it out and here is the end result http://community.webshots.com/user/sanchez63636 please tell me if this rembels a real explorer (i know its off) close enoght
  16. good news!! i got sound. i just experimented for manys hours and after getting little sleep and missing my first class of school i got sound . the only problem is that the tone pot now works in reverse (i never used the thing anyway). that and my amp makes a little hiss when i touch the bridge or the pick up adjustment screws. im thinking that i didnt ground the neck pick to its volume pot. im gonna take this to my brother since he is an elertical/wireing gunius. P.S: sorry Biohazard about not having any pics, my borther has my cammera and im gonna get my cammera back when i take my guitar to him. Thanks for offering to help.
  17. by any chance would u be willing to fret this? i am willing to pay extra. also i forgot to ask dose this have inays? if so what kind?
  18. can some help me? i tryed to rewire my jackson kv4 but now it dosent get any sound? I would really apciceate if some one could post a pic of the contol cavity wired since im a better learner by vison instad of books. i have 1 tone pot and 2 volume and a 3 wat toggle. ive followed the seymour duncan diagram but i msut of did something worng.
  19. is it freted? also whats the radiuson it?
  20. if possible send pics to me at cyberpimp3000@hotmail.com
  21. I am looking for a Fretboard w/ 22 or 24 frets and a truss Rod. i have a neck for a neck thru body but i have no experince with frets and i do not have any of the tools for that job. That or a P.O.S. neck with the truss rod and fretboard in working shape (i done care about the conditon of neck or head stock) if u have one please post a reply with an offer.
  22. Ebay dose have them very cheap but they are not real floyd ones. the one i bought for my jackson KV4 pushed the low E strings up to its almost up to the edge of the fret. at first it was hell to play but after a bit u get use to it.
  23. thanks for the input, even though this is a really crappy guitar i still take care of it and keep it in its case when not in use. ive been also thinking of sanding the neck down to a "Jackson feel" becasuse i love those neck. so i guss im going to give it a go and try that. ill end up just leaving it raw and taking good care of it.
  24. i recently decided to strip off the clear finish on my squire strat and leave the neck without a finish. after i sanded it down it looked a little dull so i used lemon oil to give is shine (it now looks the same as before). would this but a good idea to keep it like this or do i need a clear coat on the neck?
  25. i have a explorer body in poor condition. origanly i turned a friend into building and when he gave it a shot this was the final out come. to start the neck(no inculed) was set up for a 25.5 inch scale but he didnt know that so the holes for the bridge were at 24 inches. i tryed to roughly cut a square around this area so i could gule in some wood (with filler, sanding, primer and paint no one would know) but due to work i only had time to do it very roughly with my dremel and a router bit. next the neck pocket has too much play in it. i would recomend filling it with wood and filler the shaping and some routeing to the desired pocket depth. the control cavity might be too big to work with a tune o matic so i guled in some wood. if ur itrensed in a already shaped explorer with a problems then email me. make a resonable offer or trade. with a router and some time this thing will shine. ask for pics if u want to see it, my email is cyberpimp3000@hotmail.com
