  1. heres a shot of the neck rough shaped, this is the thinnest neck ive ever done! its like an Ibanez but a tad thinner, i got the truss rod from LMI, its plenty stable too only needing a little but of truss rod tightening during mockup.
  2. ok its been a little while but i got the bass near completed. I put the first 6 coats of urethane on it today (no pics yet still drying) and i will wet sand it out 2morrow to prepare it for 6 more coats monday here are some pics after fingerboard/fibre optic install and pickup routing notice the fiberoptics running through the neck pup hole! i damped it with a wet rag
  3. yeah the models ive found are pretty pricey....
  4. i want my next bass to he a headless, but i cant seem to find but two manufactuers that carry the stuff to do it. anybody know where i can get at least the bridge/tuners i can fabricate the rest. or does any one know a cheap model or ripoff of a steinberger i can steal parts from?
  5. MJ, Thanks alot for your tips on how you did your fibers, heres some pics of the ones i did on my 5string bass, http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...topic=19471&hl= i used .75mm, im doing another bass now which im using .50 i like the .75 better are you channeling the board or the neck? i went board, with both bass' but they are both fretless some im wondering if i can go board with fretted.....thanks again!

  10. someone should do a fan frets tutorial, the thought of multiple scale lengths has always interested me
  11. wow that thing is a monster! how heavy is it? it looks GREAT!!
  12. so how much did a set of those tuners cost you, and where did you get them?
  13. "My idea was to create the bass strung with roundwounds to sound a little bit more like flatwounds keeping the feel of roundwounds." try saying that 3 times fast the bass looks awesome, i love those tuners im guessing they are hipshot?
  14. yeah wait till the necks finished itll look like a multicolored candy cane
  15. well i know i like a thin neck so my main plan was to have something stiff so i used a lot of purpleheart and maple. the other half of the neck blank i used for another bass and i added two steel rods along with a single truss and found that under full tune the neck never even bowed. so with this one i just used a single truss to allow a little more bow. well see how it turns out
  16. im going for an ibanez type neck, i like the way they feel better. for the body contour i set the neck in at 3/8" thinner than the body wood, then i just sanded the body down to meet that, and contoured the top to match.
  17. here is a shot of the ergonomics, this is what sets the warwicks apart from most other bass' ive done most of this by hand its still not where i want it but you get the idea.
  18. heres a shot of the back of the bass, would this be considered a neckthrough or a set neck? the bridge will still screw into the neck. I wiped the bass down with a wet rag for the pics
  19. heres some more pics i got the fingerboard glued on over the weekend ill post some of that soon too i quarter cut the zebra wood i used for the headstock im still working on the final shape too.....
  20. very nice, the F-hole is awesome, im working with zebra wood now and found out the hard way that it can be a pain to rout....
  21. here is my second bass build, its a Zebrawood five string made in the style of a Warwick thumb neckthrough (but a little different ), i was able to get two neckblanks from my last project so i put the spare one to good use. its a nine laminate of maple, purpleheart, african paduak and walnut. The fingerboard is bloodwood (my favorite) ill post more pictures as i continue
  22. rockler.com sells affordable bits and they last pretty good too. i bought one from them cause i had a hard time finding a 1/4" straight bit in a 1/2" collet.
  23. guitars strings and shotguns, the Nuge would be proud!
