Jay5 that is absolutely an amazing jig and the best I have seen so far. The issues you have with the router bits are "EXACTLY" what I am experiencing and I cannot seem to solve mine without alot of final hand shaping and carving. How do you allow for the thickness in the neck ie thinner at the nut and thicker at the twelve fret ?? does the jig have a built in slope ?? I have experimented with mine and have found the 7/8ths bit is ok but the 1" would be better like yours. Would it be possible to do a building log on how you made yours for us all to share?? Also when you mention the oversized sledge to avoid overcutting what exactly is this ?? Sorry for all the questions but that jig is a must build on my list, many thanks for your help

Anyone Use Gotoh Floyd Rose?

Simply put they are superb although not in the same league as the Floyd Rose it is the only one I would ever put on my guitars as an alternative PERIOD! Also these were used on the Ernie Ball EVH model but the only difference was Gotoh put the MusicMan stamp on it and not Gotoh, so in answer to you're question if it was good enough for Eddie I'm sure It'll be good enough for you. Hey Neil awesomme guitar and credit due to you. What actual brand of Dupont did you use?? just curious as this looks like a nice high build finish which is what I'm looking for. Also have you got some pics of the neck carving jig ?? I have got myself a 1/2 router and a 7/8ths bit but where and how I go from here I have to be guided. Kammo1

Hi Perry it needs to be as close as I can get it. I have tried all sorts to blow it up but I need them measurements so I can double check every point so it is correct. Kammo1

Many thanks bro, I saw that site but the body I am after is the other type like the j-peg it sort of has shoulders onto it not straight where the neck joins the body, anybody else that can help ?? Kammo1

Jeremy thanks for sharing the info, I must say that youre finishes are amazing. I will definately look at the stuff you have mentioned and I would like to get away from the laquer I'm using as its always moving and shrinking back and although it looks great at first 2 months down the line it looks all grainy. I have had a thought and maybe youre expert advice could steer me into making the right move and that is if I used a 2 part polyurethane as a sealer and grainfiller and let this set up for about a week and then flat everything flat and level and then used the laquer as a finishing coat would this be advisable and would it present any problems with the laquer?? as always any help is greatly accepted. Hey guys many thanks for your responses. Yep I'm gonna make myself a nice secure jig to hold the neck and also support the router in an overhead position so its all safe and my hands come nowhere near the cutter. One thing that puzzled me is that when rounding over the back of the neck won't the bearing go past the centre line on the neck towards the headstock end as the size difference from the heel end is greater and this will in turn make the bearing run aginst the curve? difficult to explain but you get the picture?? Maybe a tutorial with pics would help me to see the wood from the trees and also help other fellow luthiers to grasp the concept. Maybe yourself or Myka would like to help. Kammo1

Hi what size roundover bit do you use to round the back of the neck?? and what size shank 1/4inch or 1/2inch?Also when doing this do you start from the headstock end or the heel end?? any tips would be greatly appreciated on how much do you take off in one pass or do you rout the correct depth all in one go. I have been looking at making a jig like Myka's but would like some more info, any help would be greatly appreciated. Kammo1

Hi guys basically it is EXACTLY as Jeremy stated shrinkage no matter how long you leave it it always moves and literally without waiting months to cure which I don't have I feel I need a more durable harder finish. I understand the full health side of using Poly and it is off putting but maybe what I was thinking is using a good high build basecoat that dries hard and doesn't move(ie Poly) and then maybe using the more friendly laquer on the top but I didn't want to mix everything I want to stay in a system that is all compatible with one another. Jeremy as you are what I call a more professional and experienced painter how long would you leave the basecoat and which one do you recommend? before applying the colour coats and clears? Hey guys just would like your opinions and views on what would you say is the best 2-part finish you would recommend. I am thinking of Polyester or Polyurethane so if any of you guys have had any good experience with them what type did you use and name of product would help. I have used a 2 part laquer and to be honest it hasn't yielded the results I would of liked so now its gotta be 2-part Poly I think its the only way to go. Also what is a good 2-part basecoat to use as a sealer and filler to go with the above, your opinions and views are very well appreciated. Kammo1

Hi all just would like your views on which type of sander most of you use when sanding the flats of the guitar ie front and back ? I have normally done this by hand with a small rubber block but in all fairness however flat it looks when it comes to the polishing stage you can see some irregularities although they are small I often thik that if I used a large area to sand with maybe this would help. So I am thinking of a Dual Action sander rotary type so what in fact it will do is skim the surface super flat or maybe not. Your views on this would be greatly appreciated. Kammo1
