  1. esquires have carved tops aswell i believe. id just use telecaster template and eyeball it from there.
  2. EMG HZ-4's are exactly the same as the 81's according to the EMG site(i think), except the 81's have the preamp. http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/ this site has a good explanation of how preamps work and even how to build one.
  3. has to be the doubleneck strat id say, just so....interesting. and those fretboards are nice as
  4. .... sorry, im a New Zealander. Its refreshing to see it go the other way for once. in all seriousness tho, that guy has issues. people like him are the reason i left musician forums. I loved his insight into sustain and bodymass, that was classic
  5. The maton website has aussie timbers and what kinda tone the have, etc. some of em sound pretty interesting. I just wish there were some Kiwi guitar companies, cause id like to know how some of our woods would shape up (like rimu for instance, or a big lump of macrocarpa )
  6. rw/rp = reverse wound/ reverse polarity i would guess. basically it causes the induced currents (hum) to cancel eachother because they travel in oposing directions in each coil. (i think)
  7. my dream guitar is-- agressive looking, custom strat-like body, with the jag style end (so there is room to move the volume/tone knobs and switch back from the annoying strat positions) neck thru, mahogany/walnut/mahogany 3pc, 24 fret, thin neck. mahogany body, quilted mahogany carved top (or maybe walnut, i do have a whole walnut tree lying in the shed after all ) floyd rose, planet waves cutting tuners (all hardware chrome) SD SH-6 in the bridge, and either 2 hotrails. see-thru black burst finish, with chrome highlights around the edges. however, givin how much i actually know about building guitars so far, and hopw much wood working experiene i actually have, it might be a while before it gets done.
  8. i swapped the neck and bridge pickups in my squire bullet strat around. you might find that your bridge pickups will sound slightly thiner in the neck (because they are generaly designed to be more treble re-enforced, depending on what pu's you get). I found the slightly fatter bottom end of my squires neck pickup makes it sound pretty good in the bridge. that coupled with bringing them right up as high as i can, makes them sound pretty mean for such cheap pickups.
  9. Ill definately be getting them off the site if i get some. Im going to unbelievable lengths just to try and get a Shecter guitar here in New Zealand from a store (only 2 stores in the country can sell them, and they are waiting on a shipment orderd 9 months ago. they expect itll arive in a month or 2 ). i could get them online, but id rather have the ease of takin it into a dealer if something goes wrong, casue id have to pay to get it shipped back anyway if i got it on the net.
  10. 1 hr till xmas for me as my present to all of you, here as an amusing (if somewhat random and meaningless) flash video for your viewing plesure at http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/captain.htm . They have a good xmas episode or 2 on that website aswell. enjoy your holidays all
  11. more like 140 to 175 cheaper. i think dimebuckers are $250NZ (but im not sure if thats including install or not at the shop, but more likely not.) I will definately have to look into one of these XL-500's then. cheers jivin. P.S- my uncle is a Brisbanian too.
  12. How long/ how much extra do you think it would cost to get one made and shipped over here to New Zealand? (its under Australia, and a little to its right for those of you who dont know).
  13. Yea. I figured that my thread as much related to advice and opinions on my first two ideas for my project guitars (spose i probly should stated that somewere huh?) as it was introductions. but oh well. Ill post about them later when ive done some more planning/ material gathering. Any comments on them now by any chance? (guitar number one will be Blackkburst with dark chrome highlights around the edges btw. Id like to thank guitarfrenzy for his "making a strat from scratch" thread, casue thats were i got the idea for the colours from. one of the pics looked like the guitar had a sort of metalic purple highlight around the edges which i thought looked awesome). Thanks guys.
  14. yay, after using the handy handy search function i have found my thread (which was moved without warning) Thanks. I hope I enjoy my stay too. and asm, i think if get that desperate for wood ill just buy a body from stew mac or warmoth or sumthing like that. I should be able to scourse some wood though. maybe from a local furniture shop, they manufacture alot of furniture themselfs on site, so Im sure they will have some usable wood.
  15. hey, were bouts are you in? im in Palmerston North. and as for the Bill Lawrence pickups, I have heard alot of good things about them, but they might be a bit too hard to come buy here in NZ.
  16. Yay! my second post . hey guys, im new here, just moved from musician forums (which has kinda gone down the pooper recently). I have a question... Does anyone know if SD will continue making the SH-13 Dimebucker? casue i was considering getting one, but not for a while. plus becasue i live in New Zealand, we tend to only get mainstream stuff, and Im a little worried that the local instrument shop mihgt not be able to get me one if they do cease production for 2005.
  17. Hey Guys, Im new to these forums (obviously). Thought Id sign up here for a few reasons (1) I have made the rather ambitious decision to build a guitar or two for my own ammusment in the next year or so ( I have virtually no woodworking experience ) (2) Musicianforums (of which i am also a member) is overrun with pathetically annoying people who cant have a logical disscussion to save themselves and just flame enything that moves for no reason whatsoever. So far Ive planned out (sort of) 2 guitars. guitar number 1 (which im building first) will be a custom designed strat-like guitar. it will have strat style horns, but a slanted back half like a fender jag (im doing this so i can move all the controls back so they arnt in such an annoying place). it will have a 22 fret bolt on neck, similar to fender necks, but ill make a custom 4-2 style headstock. The Neck joint will be countoured a bit (probly just slanted) so there is easier access to the upper frets for my little hands. Pickups will be a SD-JB in the bridge (taken from my Shecter C-1 classic when i get it) and either some hotrails in the neck/mid, or some hot livewire singlecoils, i havnt decided yet. The other hardware and woods have yet to be decided on. Guitar 2 will be a Neck-thru design, 24 fret with a 3 piece neck (and my 4-2 headstock again), and a walnut center (as i have a whole walnut tree in my shed out back , there must some good wood in there). it will have a C-1 style body with a figured top. and thats about as far as ive got at the moment. the woods need to be decided on. Unfortunately, becasue New Zealand is so small and secluded, alot of stuff is hard to find and/or expensive. ive been looking into native woods a bit, and Rimu is the only thing i can think of so far that would be suitable (I think its like mahogany, but denser and darker), so any help there would be much apreciated. I also have my wonderful Squier strat (with my uber flash custom mod of flipping the neck and bridge pickups around cause it sounds better) to practice on once i get my C-1 classic. ill have a go at making the neck contour on that, aswell as refinishing it, and maybe refretting. So im lookin foward to gettin to know you guys better (this place seems to be a much stronger comunity than musician forums) and seing some kick arse, uber sexy guitars on here.
