  1. i have done alot of searchin aornud here, but i cant find anything helpful on how one would level and profile (i assume that is the same as crowning) frets. any links...tips... anything to point me into the right direction. i think the tune problem had to do with the high action, the nasty bowi had in the neck, and i intunated my guitar last time when the strings were not brand new, a combination of those probly had something to do with it. thanks for the help so far guys!
  2. christ on high the neck was way out! i read up on the main page here and stewart mac, busted out the old feeler gauges and unstead of eyballing it lile i usually do everything, (and at that it was been quite a while) and the neck had a very larg amount of relife in it. this confused me, i thought if anything that would help eliminate fret buzz. so anyway, i brought the neck back to were it should be and i put the action down to were it should be...it was a bit high. and now... it buzzes alot more hahahh. it is alot easier to play but it buzzes everywere! can u file the frets so they are not flat anymore, and then polish them up with sand paper? would that help any.
  3. thank abuch for the help guys. yes the bridge is frim against the body. the frets thatare worn the most are between 12-22. and mostly on the higher(uncoiled) half of the neck. i spend alot of time in there. it has happend threw a couple of sets of strings now. i didnt want to take it in, i want to try to figure it out and fix it myself....im stuborn but more impotanty i just wanna learn how. might have to if i cant get to the bottem of it. ill read those links and see if i can come get it squared away, thanks abuch
  4. i dont now if the frets need work or not. i dont think its the strings/tunners. im not sure how to check the neck....any advice? i have 5 springs in the back to hold the bride down. hmmm thanks for the advice so far!
  5. my strat has mad fret buzz and it comes out of tunes every time i give it a dirty look. the frets are a bit flat on top. the guitar is pushin 10 years old and i play it alot. what can i do to get rid of the buzz, and help it stay in tune? i checked the intunation on the guitar and got it as close as i feel i can get it. when i pic a string...it will go in and out of tune....its wierd. i dont no what to do about it. thanks for any advice u can offer!
  6. how hard is it to add binding to a guitar? i have an old les paul studio. i was planing to refret, refinish, and add binding. is a router/ stew mac binging router bit/ and a steady hand all im gunna need? on a scale of 1-10 is it gunna be doable basically.

  8. Don't you mean poll? ← no he means poll. there is no possible way to accuratly narrow it down to enough for a poll.
  9. hey guys, i am looking for a bit of advice on refinishing my les paul. i want to do a honey burst finish. anyone have advice on painting tech./which stans/paints or anyhting else that would be helpful? thanks.
  10. might be a good idea to get that amp re biased. if u dont us the exact same tubes dont you have to any way? i could be wrong. but yeah that is the tubes.
  11. i thihnk with revision it could make a decent bass. it will never be my favorite, but posibly not an ugly guitar. i agree tho, that shape does not fit the sound. that is like useing a rickenbacker for deathmetal. if u really like the design tho i would move the bridge back, mck the bottom{by the bridge} way more rounded. i would like to see a crooked cresent moon like shape. that probly makes no sences but picture a cresent moon and then tilt it so that the bottem would flair out more at the right side than at the left. so it inst just a perfect circle look. the horns should be maybe a bit more subtle as well. or, if u want you could always fret it and make it more of a guitar that would play the harder stuff. keep at it man ull find your desing.
  12. yeah, to some people buddy holly might be the old stuff. some others may consider hendrix old. another may see black sabbeth as old. question needs to be reised and more specific for sure.
  13. sweet thaks abunch ill try that search
  14. i can see were u could say that it lasted 15 minuts{i get the metaphore to my iq is above 3} but i still disagree. pearl jam is not even one of my favorite bands but they are still around an tonz of people still go see there shows and buy their albums. and we all get the question what we are debating or critisizing or whaterver u want to call it is how can you A) call them all old or mention those bands but not other great ones too
  15. tap harmonics are really easy...you simply tap{with your finger not your pick} the fret 12 frets above were you are playing. just like taping, but do it lightly. now pinch harmonics i never could get. it hapens by mistake alot but i have never been able to just do it on command. any pointers?
  16. i did a bit of searchin and played some axes at guitar center the other day. here are my findings. on the dimarzio super distortion pickups.... i played an ace frelehy signiture lp with 3 othe sd pickups. i liked them overall. they sounded great in the rythm pickup selector position. i liked the neck positin but the bridge/treble was way to squirely. to high pitched. had no balls. on the paf reissue{paf classics}...i played a 57 reissue gold top. if i was offered that guitar in exchange for licking a hookers ass i would do it. the onyl hting i didnt like 100% was the thick neck profile. im sure i would get used to it tho. the pickups were amazing. they sounded as if the rockgods were harminizing at choire practice. i have desided on the paf reissues.
  17. are u kidding me? seatle seen lasted 15 minuts....um if u say so, because ya no pearl jam, they were a one hit wonder man...not. this question is totally bogus because every one has different tast and the question, although probly with good intent, should have been thought out a bit more. there are simply not enough bands to have a poll on this it should be an open forum{i mean this thread} someone said somehting about no guns...im assuming that is guns n' roses, but they were the same time period as nirvana. well maybee a bit earlier{1987 with appitite for destruction} it is also not fair to have the beatles but not the stones. that could be a discusion in itself. their are lesser known bands and such that he could have added but once again u cant put them all in a poll. a few more that havnt been said that i would have liked to see.... acdc, the hendrix experiment, ten years after, santana, cream, the yard birds, skynyrd, styks{haha not}, the greatfull dead, the almond brothers well ya get teh point their are tonz more and this is all assuming just rock music and not like jazz fusion or blues or whatever else. yup there is my 2cents
  18. wow that headstok dosen tdo it for me at all
  19. i was gunna do the neck too because it is also painted. the whole guitar is white. there is no tbinding so i was plaing to rout the side and add binding and paint it. after looking sdme more i really like the honeyburst{brwon t yellow} jobs. as already pointed out, it is a studio les paul and is never gunna be in the same realm as a 57 goldtop.
  20. for supply and material cash im building strats off ebay parts and selling them for about a 200$ profit. {sometimes less} but that should be enough for allthe tools and clamps im gunna need.
  21. that looks real nice man good work. i really like the fret board that is a nice looking piece of timber
  22. i just looked at the grizzly kits and could nto find a les paul style kit. another thing, they dont require anyhting but paint assembly and headstock shaping. basiaclly all the work is done. i wont be able to get any fretting/inlay practice. electronics to a degree are rather easy to do. the only thing they would really help me on is the finish but i can always sand it off if i screw up on my les paul. i think illtry my hand at a v and then deside when they are ready what finish i will use so i can play me v while the gibson is down another question i had was on the headstock, if i repaint it i will erase the les paul sig. and the gibson lable and what not. how do you do that when your done? get a gibson inlay and another one to voer the old les paul sig.? thanks again guys
  23. yes it is a gibson but i have no intention of selling it
  24. ok guys the 87 studio {artic white but rought} needs refretting s i figured new inlays would be hot and why not repaint it while im there. im also soon to build a V so i have a few ideas and i want your opinions on which guitar to do each with... i was thinking for the les paul i was gunna do an old tobacco sunburst fadded stlye finish. like a brwon to yellow so it looks old not black to yellow. i thought of vine inlays but that might look wired with that color. the v i thought of a silver metalic/flake,with a black burst fith a narly fleam or viny inlay but then i thougt of doint the same one the oposite gutias im not sure help m,e out guys
