  1. Hey rhoads, help a fellow aussie out and rig the voting for GOTM so my strat wins.
  2. Hell yeah! Can't wait, I'll bet it going to sound great. Jason ← Looks great , nice job What did the strat kit come with and what was the price for the kit . Thinking of buying one for myself Thanx ← it came with everything, even a loaded pickguard with the typical strat setup, however as you saw I opted to buy my own pickup and pickguard. The kit cost me about $385
  3. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...t=0#entry208837 scroll down to the last post and you'll see mine.
  4. I get the feeling I'm going to receive about zero votes , but anyway, here it is. It's basically a replica of a Tom Delonge Strat, a sweet guitar which is was designed and played by Tom for several years, until Gibson handed him a stack of money to change allegence. This saw the birth of the Gibson TD-355 (which has the similar one pickup/one volume configuration), and the halt in production of the TD strats. I'm a fan of Blink 182 and The Offspring as well as other punk/pop-punk bands and heavier rock. I'm a Satch/Vai fanatic as well. I wanted to make a TD as it has a great heavy sound, and the simple setup meant it was easier for me to wire than something with a 5 way selector. As I'm a wiring n00b, I wanted to start with something easy. Features: *Rosewood fretboard. *White Seymour Duncan Invader pickup. *One pickup/One Volume setup, the perfect guitar to just plug and play. *10-46 D'addarios. *Custom made pearloid pickguard *Umm *scratches forhead whist thinking of other features to type about*, did I mention it's white? As for sound, the invader obviously suits Any kind of rock to a tee. I was kinda concerned about some people saying that this pickup was too 'hot' for it's own good, but I'm suprised (and glad) that this guitar is wayyyyyyyyy more versatile than I expected it to be. Most people I asked said the clean sounds would probably be rubbish, however I beg to differ. Don't be fooled, this is one versatile axe, despite it's simple setup. and the 'action shot' : Well there it is. It's my first ever project guitar. It took me about a month to complete, working on and off on it. The easiest part was probably assembling it. The hardest part, well, not the 'hardest' but the most time consuming was probably painting. As far as a first guitar goes I'm pretty pleased with myself. I'd have some soundclips for you, however last time I tried soundclips with my RG, they sounded rubbish (not the guitars fault, I just have a horrible recording setup ). Hope you like it, hope you vote for it! Peace out, Andrew EDIT: pay no attention to the fact there is no volume knob present! i have a chrome one now, but no camera.
  5. Thanks! I should have it absolutely done by mid-week, so I'll probably enter into this months entry list (Which is for August, I believe?). I have a reasonable idea of how to set up a guitar (I managed to re-string my RG with no problems (I was too **** to try adjust the truss rod though )), however just at this stage I believe a professional could have it playing better than I ever could, at the stage I'm at now. Thanks for your advice. I'll try get some soundclips up, so you can admire the sexy tone (and sloppy playing) !
  6. well here it is, in all it's glory: Gotta get 2 new tuning pegs, as I've f@!ked two of them. I'll get the tuning pegs tomorrow (monday) and take it into my local music shop for a good set up on tuesday. Yes, I know, I'm a wimp for getting it checked over! I'm still new at this, and It plays probably at about a grade B now, and I havent touched the bridge or neck. I'd be better off getting pros to check it over. and I know the guys who run the shop, and they do a good job.
  7. Just looking at this wiring diagram, how important are the capacitators to the guitars tone or hum? What exactly do they do? http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf...0138200APg2.pdf I wired mine up without the capacitator/resistor thingy. Is my guitar going to die, or even worse, sound like crap???? I did a quick search to no avail, perhaps I didn't search long enough, but meh. Anyone who could help me out, please do! I'd appreciate it. EDIT: I'm a noob at guitar wiring. Using the wiring diagram above and the seymour duncan pamphlet, I was able to wire it up, and it's working, I just don't know if/why I need those capacitators. EDIT AGAIN: Now, looking at the wiring diagram for 'Seymour Duncan One Humbucker One Volume' on the Project Guitar, it does not show any capacitators needed, just a simple pickup to volume pot to jack setup. Now I'm confused! Maybe I just need a sheilding tutorial to get rid of some of that hum (wink wink!). The pickup cavity, wiring 'hole' under the pickguard is just painted with normal paint, I've been told I need to cover it with copper foil??????
  8. I say go for it. ← ok! When I get some better pics, I will! and i shall provail!
  9. Now the next step is to enter it into guitar of the month, coz, lyke, of course it would kill every1. I'd win if the boards were full of blink-loving teenyboppers, however somehow I don't think thats the case. Seriously though, I might enter it for a laugh, if its eligible. Is it eligible for entry?
  10. IT'S DONE!!!!!! IT'S DONE!!!!! Wired it up tonight, and, holy sh!t, it works! Pictures soon. Damn geocities. methinks photobucket is the way to go

  12. yeah, they're pretty good down there. Went down there this morning to exchange the hardtail bridge for the normal trem bridge, no troubles at all. I got the pickguard today, and went and exchanged the hardtail for the standard trem bridge. I put it all together tonight. So everything is done except electrics. I put strings on it because I wanted to feel how it would play. Seems ok. It looks sweet as with the pickguard. I'm still waiting on the pickup, and then I gotta wire the bitch up. Once it's all done, I'll probably get it checked over by a professional, just to be sure. So the guitar is probably about 75% complete. Pictures soon!
  13. Do you have a source for the pickguard already? Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... ← what do you mean by 'do i have a source'? I've already purchased one via ebay and it's on it's way, if that's what you mean. ← That's what I meant. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you give for it? Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... ← I paid about 40USD + shipping. I didn't mind forking out for it as I can't find any pickguards like it around, and most shops that could custom make it for me charged riduculous prices.
  14. I decided the paintjob wasn't as convincing as it could've been, so I decided to whack another two cans of white on and then clear coat.

  16. Ordered a white invader today. Still waiting on the pickguard.
  17. yeah, that looks pretty close to it. Hey guys, should a regular strat tremolo bridge fit the tom delonge pickguard properly? The reason I ask is because the body is routed for a standard tremolo bridge, however I bought a hardtail bridge without realizing this. The hardtail sits over, almost covering the entire hole in the top of the guitar. There probably isn't even a millimetre of the hole showing on either side, but I just think it might look shyte if I leave it like that. If a standard tremolo fits the pickguard I'll go in and exchange for one.
  18. Fretco are just a good local shop. The parts I used they get in from elswehere, however if you prefer the guy in the shop makes bodies and necks to order, routed however you want, any shape etc. The universal routing on the one I bought will probably kil the tone a bit (Can I fill it in somehow?) but it was designed to be a straight foward rock guitar with no frills. Fretco
  19. Yeah, I'm building what is pretty much a Tom Delonge Strat from a mixture of kit parts and ebay purchases. I just got a pearl pickguard off ebay and am looking for a decent invader pickup. Pics to come soon. I decided to build one as *I'm bored *I love my RG, but as it's so cool/expensive I'm scared ****less of taking it out to perform as it could get damaged/stolen (a cheaper guitar (like the one I'm making) I wouldn't be as worried about. *The Edge III and Locking nut on my RG are great, however I don't want to have to give my RG a setup everytime I want to play in a different tuning. With a standard bridge and reasonable gauge strings I will be able to tune how I like. It obviously won't be as good as my RG (the body is universally routed, so probably not the best tone (can i fill the gap with foam or something?)), but as I explained above, a straight foward, stripped down guitar is all I need for public performances at the moment. Don't think this makes me love my RG any less. Infact, I'm using it at several performances in the near future. Basically I want to take care of my RG, when circumstances permit (like a driving license, or a setlist with the band that requires some varied guitar sounds) the RG is so there. I ****ing love it, however I still have a soft spot for straight out simple powerchord rocking minus all the lead lines that the RG is so good at. I got a stratocaster kit from fretco which contains all parts needed. It was cheaper to buy it in full, with the loaded pickguard, so I'm gonna rip the volume pot out of it and wire it up to the TD pickguard I'm getting. As far as paint, I'm thinking Olypmic white or mabye a bright, not pale yellow. Basicaly anything bright and that goes with the pearl pickguard. If you've got colour suggestions, put em' foward. I'm also preparing a custom logo for the headstock. Today I'm just starting the process Prepping the body for painting. I'll get pics up soon. UPDATE 1 Just sprayed the primer on. a few ****ups here and there, but not bad. UPDATE 2 Primer got layed down about an hour and a half ago. Once that dried, I sanded it lightly with very fine sandpaper and sprayed on 'crystal white'. It looks sexy and it's not even finished yet. I will sand it lightly tomorrow and apply the clearcoat. I wish I had pics. 20. For straps I just use a really heavy dute Ibanez strap. The leather is so thick it takes half an hour to press it over each strap pin.
  21. problem solved. guitar = received frets = 24 me = happy (I also got 50 bucks worth of D'addarios for free)
