  1. WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more work than its worth. dont even think about it any more. send the bass my way if you dont want it anymore lol
  2. quoted from that page: EZ two wire installation as a master control im not familiar with it, but after reading the page and looking at the picture, it looks like you would connect 2 wires in there (simple, right?) then replace the volume pot and make a whole for that bulky rotary switch
  3. well as i shouldve assumed from the time it wouldnt work, my pickups dont have high enough output. last night my friend brought over this kids fat strat and the bridge humbucker read 10k so i tried it out and it works. so thanks to everyone who helped out one last question though, whats meant by "ground loop"? i think its where individual wires are grounded on different spots instead of one central grounded spot
  4. you should use around 20 guage shielded wire
  5. wow... great work go get a degree in business and market your work. that guitar is just that damn cool
  6. well wired it up right off of the wiper of the vol pot where the circuit finishes and still didnt work and i put the wire going to the jack on the wire of the first diode with the 2 diodes connecting before that as pictured in unclej's diagram (didnt think it would matter either way but had to give it a try). so i drew you guys up a diagram of exactly what it looks like since the pics are hard to see
  7. lovekraft, thats exactly what im looking for, a little subtle overdrive. i play lots of reggae and ska so it would be real useful for me to switch between my clean and OD right there on my guitar now im going to wire it in some different places to see if theres any effect
  8. just go to mouser.com and search for bat46... itll bring up those and the bat41 (it did for me anyway) and those are the 2 kinds you can use
  9. well, i dont believe you right on that, but you could be as i dont half know what im talking about. all these other guys are getting this thing to work, but not me so i dont know what the problem is. i turn my multimeter on ohms and check the connections to make sure the diodes arent messed up and current is passing through. ive also read everywhere that the PUPs must be putting out atleast 8k ohms which the PUPs on both my guitars do
  10. i bought a jbass from them (my first) a november before last and was so impressed with it i bought an agile al2500 in blue flame. after fixing that bass up, i decided to sell it and buy a brice 6 string bass. once again, very impressed. so a month ago i venture out and buy the sx stl50 (my tele). while the finish is good, the frets were real bad not to mention the stock components. i had to replace the tuners (the things couldnt stay in tune after the slightest bend) and even saddles. of course i replaced all the electronics and my PUPs are on the way. it was obviously a $110 guitar and i value it at about that much. however my other ones, i feel, are worth more than what i paid for them.. i think the threadstarter just got one hell of a lemon
  11. the jackthe jack and switch wiredthe switch wiring sorry for the bad pics.. my camera is real shitty. thats the closest i can get it without the thing going all out of focus. on the switch, the brown wire is the ground and the blue is the hot. on the jack both the ground and hot are in heatshrink tube so its hard to see that they are both wired right. hope yall can make somethin out of this
  12. still didnt work. tried all kinds of eq settings with the treble up and the clean channel as high as my litlte 15w practice amp will go
  13. alright, ill give that a try, but i saw on your site that i should use 0.3-0.4V at 1mA diodes and mine are 100 volt at 150mA... isnt that a problem? oh yea, its cool about that pm.. happens to me sometimes too
  14. i ordered 10 bat46's and 10 bat41's from mouser both rated 150mA 100 volt... i guess all that is too high, right? there arent any lower values from mouser though. where can i find the right ones?
  15. never seen anything like that.. im a little skeptical too. but err if i were you i would go ahead and throw my money away on it and tell us how it works
  16. lol should i apologize for making the 1000th post about this thing?
  17. alright, last night i wired my strawberry ice switch up to my les paul output jack and had no results so i thought ok, the PUPs arent high enough output. but tonight i bought a multimeter and checked em out. they both read an even 8.0 ohms. i wired it up again, no results. i even tried it on my tele wired in parallel which reads like 17 ohms (8.0 on each PUP though so i tried that too)! so im guessing im now wiring it right as that would be the only thing i could be doing wrong (ive triple check and quadruple checked the wiring on the switches and its all right). arent i supposed to just attach the ground on the switch to the output ground and hot off of the diodes to the hot on the jack, just to test it out?
  18. no, but ppl sometimes pay me to re-build (re-wire it, install necks, stuff like that). i dont actually build them from scratch or anything anyway. just make it look cool and do all kinds of mods... in other words make shitty guitars pretty cool
  19. make sure no foil (which ever type you used) from the back of the pickguard it touching it. sounds to me like thats the problem
  20. its doing the same thing. i dont like to stretch the cap out like that (just sorta gets in the way ya know) so i place it on the tone pot---which is what the one on the left it doing... id go with it
  21. its alright to mix em up. the higher resistance of the bridge pots might make the PUP a little less hot, but then you can just raise the PUP to compensate for it
  22. lol my bad all the way. im not exactly a newbie but i deserve it i guess... for the past 30 min ive been reading what i searched for and figured id come back here thinking no one has posted yet and apologize before someone calls me a newbie ya gotta understand, ive been wiring guitars all night and its nearly 4am and im interested in this ****... no excuses though i figured it all out and im off to bed
  23. ok, im not very knowlegeble in the electronics deptartment so i dont really know exactly which kind of schottky diodes i need to perform the black ice overdrive thing. ive found some at mouser and the tutorial says a low voltage but when i look at pics of it i dont see how im gonna wire 2 in series and use it in place of the capacitor. well i hope someone sees this
