  1. damn i feel like an idiot lol. i searched for a stereo cable on all the major online music stores but since i didnt know what theyre called i wasnt able to find one. and thats why i wanted the XLR. i think ill still do the splitter box so i can do each output to separate signal chains, switch outputs to signal chains, combine outputs to a single chain, and what not----i havent put a whole lot of thought into that part
  2. whats up guys? i just got my internet back so i should be around more often im hoping to start building a guitar in a few months when i save up the cash. i was thinking about doing stereo wiring with an XLR cable to a homemade splitter box that would run the 2 signals to 2 different amps. i know that the XLR has 3 "leads" for hot, ground, and negative so im not sure if i could just arrange it so its 2 positives (one from each PUP) and then a ground advantages: one cable coming out of the guitar yet still stereo, onboard preamps in the splitter box, easier to manage and control since it would be splitted on my pedalboard. disadvantages: i would also have to make a back up mono-wired output jack BUT is it possible with and XLR? i was also thinking of a stereo 1/4" cable but i cant seem to find any.
  3. too lazy to go to the site to make a link for you but guitarelectronics.com has them so does the seymour duncan site
  4. i dont mean to jack this thread, but i dont understand where to put the trim pots in that first circuit im actually looking for a preamp to build to replace the shitty one on my brice bass, and i dont know what exactly i need. i need something with a bass and treble control (2 holes)
  5. LK, thanks as always how can you tell which side is the primary side on an inductor? or does it matter?
  6. whoa $19 for a pot? thats outrageous.. if i were you i would buy the cheap ones too. and i thought replacing that stuff is supposed to be a cheap mod lol. i get the good CTS pots from guitarelectronics.com for $4
  7. returning the PUPs would be the easiest way and get something made for a 5 string. if the PUPs wont fit in the cavity thats made for that string spacing, they probably wont sound good/line up with the strings. other than that i cant think of much advice for you. good luck though
  8. lovekraft, thanks for that info. i think ill still go ahead and give it a try. how do you think i should connect that and the tone pot though? just connect the wipers? matt, i would assume that you ground the pot because if you dont electricity cant pass through it (i believe). it says somewhere on the site to use a tl021 inductor. radioshack doesnt have them btw
  9. youre right about the boost. i guess i should have explained what exactly it does--supposedly--other than assume that yall will look at the site it cuts the mids from 1-5 on the pot rotation, then cuts everything BUT the mids from 5-10, so in a creative thinking way it boosts the mids. i also cant think of why it wouldnt work, but i wanted to check with yall before i make the investment in the parts and i do mean the tone and mid cut pot working in conjunction
  10. i saw this mod a while back that is like a midrange cut/boost (IN ESSENCE), and i was thinking it would be very useful in a bass along with the tone control. i mean, mid cut and high cut, sounds great huh? i dont have all the needed parts for the circuit so i cant just experiment to see what works. i was thinking i would connect the wiper of the new "mid pot" to the wiper of the tone, am i right? this is the site its on if you want to read about it Mods
  11. ive only done one and that was for my use and i just chiseled away with an x-acto razor. im not going to say it came out pretty but it works
  12. this site has a few cool things like that. i dont have the parts to try em out though so i dont know how they sound edit: forgot the link! mods
  13. possibly. ive just began my search and im going to look around town for a few days for one. ill let you know by mid next week from a general standpoint, what would you say about the sound of it? edit: what do you want for it? i have a dunlop hendrix wah and an ibanez phat hed distortion pedal... i think thats all my gear id give up right now. lmk what youd take for it
  14. basically i just need a body---but it MUST be made of some kind of hardwood, not plywood. ive got some equipment to trade or i can pay cash. any color is fine
  15. i need all kinds of pots. whats your prices?
