  1. I emailed that pic to my wife yesterday and when I got home she gave me a big hug and said, "So you're gonna buy me a Myka?"
  2. What is with the look of intense concentration on Joes face? He looks like he is playing some super complicated passage. Give me a break. He basically played the thing straight, except for the noted auto-wah. What was that thing he had his foot up on?
  3. right about the time he went off on his own. i used to like his work with ozzy quite a bit,but now it just seems like it's all about the image. I think it's more likely all about the alcohol.
  4. Here's a pic of Carvin's solution: "Many Carvin guitar models are available with the M-series tune-o-matic bridges. This bridges is set into a routed pocket on special heavy studs. The strings feed through the body which creates increased downward pressure on the bridge resulting in exceptional sustain and tone."
  5. Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Blues Jr, sometimes a Pignose G40V.

  7. Modern (standard, non-vintage/RI MIM & MIA) Strat and Tele bodies' neck pockets are identical.
  8. VW actually did this recently. I think if you bought a Jetta or GTI they gave you some cheap electric guitar. Can't remember the specifics on it though. VW, First Act, & Nigel Tufnel
  9. Build a whole Strat from scratch. http://desopolis.com/midwest/index.htm
  10. That's without any EQ or anything? I'm impressed.
  11. Check this out. Maybe not what you're looking for, but still pretty cool. Available all over ebay for $70-$80. Mid Boost Preamp Kit
  12. Mr. Hiscock is a member here and (apparently) lurks a bit. In other words, be careful whose copyrighted work you give away. Otherwise late one night there could be a knock on your door by some very large men with dark glasses--and no sense of humo(u)r. I'm just sayin'.
  13. If you made those, good job. They look store bought to me, but hey.
  14. So ok, after you get all them switches onboard and figure out some cool sounds and when to use them, what do you do when you break a string or a connection comes loose or some other unforeseen Murphy-esque thing happens in the middle of a set? Pick up another guitar just like it? Stop the show? Ok, so no gigs? Studio only? Why not a different guitar for different sounds? What, no studio? Bedroom warrior, eh? What's the point? Yes, I'm contrary and argumentative today.
  15. The original skunk stripes were koa. Knowing Leo's frugality and his tendency to use whatever was available, I'd imagine that he got a deal on some offcuts or something. When koa was no longer available (or became too costly) he just switched to something else (rosewood? walnut? can't remember which).
  16. DD, the Squier Standard Tele body is agathis. "Real" USA Fenders aren't agathis. They're alder or ash.
  17. Fingerease will help cut finger noise but it will also crud up the fretboard. Spray it on a cloth and wipe it on the strings.
  18. Voodoo. Pure voodoo. In the 70s everybody "knew" that a big heavy brass bridge and nut on a big heavy Les Paul was the ultimate in sustain. Made a lot of chiropractors fat and happy. So then, EVH's hacked up Frankie should have a huge "doink" factor. The basswood Jems should be even doinkier. Chambered LPs should just be burned. Swamp ash? Pfft. Driftwood. How about all those Strats and Teles with humbuckers? Boat paddles. IMO, this quest for "sustain" is bogus. You should be after "tone" and preferably "technique".
  19. Fill it with cheese. Something not too runny, if you know what I mean.
  20. You can't ignore the fact that the Squier Affinity Tele has a street price of $169. Complete. Strings and everything. Try buying that 51(?)RI body for that.
  21. I just have to add that I have a Squier 51 (Overstock.com blowout) that is lightweight, sounds great, and the frets are better than most cheap guitars. All it needs is a little mod for rewiring to a 3-way blade switch and a tone control to be another great workhorse. For me. YMMV.
