  1. Do what I'm gonna do, let it stick out as far as it likes! Sometimes feels strange (especially when you can do dives by moving the guitar to the left.... ), but it doesn't bother me much...
  2. then what's the difference between dsl and adsl and radsl?
  3. I think I'll go for the scarf joint way, unless there are any serious drawbacks, simply because I really dislike non-angled headstocks (yeah, I know, the classic Vs usually don't have angled headstocks, but, whatever), and it's not very likely that I'll ever build a strat style guitar, since I really dislike the design, both aesthetically (sp??) and functionally (can't hang at the angle I like, no upper fret acces, annoying that you have to unsolder the output jack to get the pickguard loose). So, what would I have to do? Remove the fretboard, cut the scarf joint, find another piece of wood, glue it on there, and shape to my liking?
  4. Finally!!! I'm on a 2mbps down/400kbps up DSL connection instead of 64k ISDN. It's freaking insane how fast it feels, I've dled like 1gb during the last 3 hours.
  5. I've been thinking about what type of finnish I'm going to use on my first guitar, and I've come to the conclusion that a bloodred flamed veneer would look good. Now, the problem is that I don't know if I can get hold of a big enough piece. Due to the design of the guitar, it would have to be nearly 30" by 20", which is more than I've found so far (though I haven't really been looking that much). It would need to be one piece (or bookmatched, though that wouldn't really go that well with the design of the guitar). So I'm just wondering if knows anywhere I could get such a piece of wood at a reasonable price. (I'm in Sweden, so European sources are good too.)
  6. I've got a strat-style neck, which I'm thinking I might use in a V that I'm going to build some day, and I don't really like the strat headstock on a V body, so I was wondering if anyone has any nice ideas for replacing/reshaping the headstock into the classic V form. It can't be fit right on, so I'd have to add wood. Any suggestions/ideas/flames are welcome!
  7. I was just routing out the trem cavity, when I realised I had cut into the electronics cavity (which is back routed). It's an approx. 2mm*30mm hole. The overlap (depthwise) is only about 2mm. Does anyone have any ideas how I would fix this? The electronics cavity is rather big, so I guess I could place something in there to cover it. It's not a problem functionally, it's just that it's ugly....
  8. People think his oppinions on many things are a bit strange. For example, I've heard that he thinks any guitar that is not US made is a POS, and he thinks Ibanez are ****, and he complains about evertything, and bla bla bla..... Nothing that should affect his trustworthyness when it comes to an OFR, I think. You could chekc out eBay too.
  9. I started playing punk/rock (mainly Offspring), but after about a year I got into metal (Iced Earth being the "source of noise" most of the time). Why? Ok, they may have played it that way originally, but why make it more difficult than it needs to be. To me, it seems like downpicking it all would give you: 1. A fatigued right arm/hand (depending on how you pick) 2. Uneven wear on your pick 3. Less skillful-looking hand movements What am I missing?
  10. Gibson Fender Washburn Yamaha Didn't think they made high-quality stuff, only starter sets and stuff Ibanez Epiphone B C Rich Peavy Have heard about them making guitars, but not much Line 6 Thought they did effects Tokai Never heard of the company Maybe I'm just not very well-informed, but seeing those 4 companies there, and not Jackson or Rickenbacker or PRS, feels strange. My vote would be for Jackson.
  11. lol, yeah ppl aren't good at guessing ages, are they? I've had people asking me "So, you're starting your second year of the "gymnasium", right?" ("Gymnasium" being the years 10-12 in the swedish school system, in which you start when you're 7) ever since I was 13. Only 4 years off.... Not that bad...
  12. Ok, thanks a lot! And sorry for being both inactive and a bit lazy (not responding and not checking the trem thread). But thanks a lot!
  13. Sorry to not actually help, but I think you'd be better of mailing DiMarzio and asking. I think that would be quicker (since there probably aren't many of us who have 7-strings at all, and even fewer with DiMarzios in them), but I'm just guessing.
  14. Ok, I've got an original Floyd that's going to sit in the guitar I'm building, and I've got a nice little line for where the saddles should be, and I've got a line for the edge of the trem, and a line for the edge of the cavity. Now, how do I find a line on which to drill the holes for the trem posts (both width- and lengthwise)?
  15. Ok, thanks. (I've only heard parts of "We are the champions" though, so I don't know much....)
  16. And here we go, the super-moron question that just has to be asked...... Who's Brian May? I have no clue...
  17. While I have NO experience whatso ever with EMG-HZs, I do have a Jackson KE3 with the mentioned active combo in it. The difference I noticed after the change is that I get alot more "bite", or definition in my sound, plus more harmonics (much more "alive"-sounding). That's compared to whatever were in 1990 KE3 though, so I don't know how that compares to HZs, but from what I've heard, HZs "suck monkey balls" and so on (compared to active EMGs), so I definateyl think you'd notice a difference.
  18. Thanks cr_XD! That should help me get hold of some (if I need it that is... does anyone happen to know if Birch needs to be sealed?)
  19. Oh, noticed that now. Seems you guys managed to reply 4 times or so while I was writing that question, cause I don't remember seing any of those posts. I don't know when I'll have the time to try this mod (in the middle of a major computer mess right now, and school and upcoming saxophone concerts don't really help...), but I'll try to remember to report what happens.
  20. Thanks a lot for all this info! Just one theing, won't the much smaller volume pot affect the volume? (I guess it shouldn't, but I'll just ask a pro to be sure.
  21. 1. No idea on that one. 2. Well, what type of sound are you going for? I'll just go with my "standard advice" in this question. Either EMG 81+81 (or 85) or EMG 60 + Seymour Duncan LiveWire HeavyMetal. However, these are pickup combos are what I like, and I play metal, so tell us what you want and we can perhaps give you some better advice.
  22. I was thinking I'd add another pot to my guitar, which would control the bass cut. The volume pot is 500k.
  23. 0.11-0.49 on my KE3 tuned to Eb 0.13-0.54 on my Strat-copy tuned to C
