  1. Eeee i can see this forum message turning nasty... so many opinions lol! To be honest i think its all a personal opinion.. walk into a shop.. stomp on a few boxes with an axe in your hand and see how it sounds? I have 3 setups currently for my BC Rich KKV... each i feel make a really nice sound whilst making it brillaint for metal stuff (especially Maiden, Pantera and slayer) I either use straight guitar > to AMP.. as longn as your amp has a nice distortion channel you wil be well away Or When playing live i use a Boss MT-2 Metal pedal infront of the amp, this gives my guitar a real "crunch" when playing... And finally In the studio (where i regluary live ) i use my Zoom 3030... All 3 of those setups vary with amp and guitar used but all provide nice tones... my BC rich KKV was also resonably priced and has 2 Humbucks (bdsm's?) and handles drop tuning easily.... Experiment and enjoy
  2. I havent read though the whole post so dont shout at me if this has already been mentioned BUT.. I help many people record there bands and also help people choose what would be nice for entry level recording setups Yamaha make a VERY GOOD range of mixers at low prices... I currently have in my setup at a friends house (store one there just for rehearsels) an Yamaha MGH10/2 and a Behringer 15 Band EQ and Behringer Preamp and all of that together came to little under £250 Hope this helps
  3. Yes thoughtless7, its the only place to check on this neck as the headstock end has no opening for it. I looked body end and indeed the cavity seems to of been drilled BUT there isnt a truss rod in there Silly replacement neck..
  4. I gathered that.. so.... do i *need* to install a truss rod or can i get away with it? I am not going to be using the bass much (only for recording sessions). Strings will always be on there as well so i wont have to worry about varying tension's...
  5. I agree with all the comments on here, its a nice looking guitar Parker Are you going to add a decal to the headstock, or just paint it? Once again well done
  6. Hey Hey and welcome to the forum *toddles off to listen to new Yngwie Album *
  7. Cmon people does ANY body have an idea, your all great and intelligent people here.... i know one of you knows whats going on... right? ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  8. Im feeling kind of concerned now lol... Ive just realised (should of realsied earlier )... It has NO truss rod .. i play guitar so i dont know... do bass's need one... would of thought yes because of the string tension surely? It is a replacement neck and it looks like the cavity has been drilled for it.. but there is NO truss rod in there... Any help will be appreciated
  9. Yeah, i think someone was covering a guitar with beer labels or something. It will work. Not the smoothest finish but looks cool. ← Thats the one! Yeh he used beer labels... ive also seen someone use parts of magazines he liked... definitly not impossible....definitly not the sort of thing i like but each to there own
  10. i am probably totally incorrect as im majorly tired and am not feeling the most intelligent of people currently... Dont Metallica use a lot fo compressors? Not sure though so dont throw big heavy objects at me if its wrong *hides* ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  11. Not sure if this is the correct place for this but here goes... I recently purchased a Zoom 3030 (discontinued now i beleive) for £30 Second hand (but in very good condition) Just a general and quite random question...what do you think of them? are they gig worthy? There plastic caseing makes me hesitate when throwing it out on stage.. i gig quite regulary in a cradle of filth/Children of Bodom cover band... and id be scared of mameing it
  12. I ** Might ** Be wrong BUT im sure either on the main site or at least under the "finishing" section of this forum, there is a page/post dedicated to finishing guitars how you said... UP THE IRONS hehe Good luck
  13. Hey Hey and welcome to the forum! Although kinda isnt welcome.. since youve been here for a while already ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  14. Crunchie.. Oooooh I to can just throw my guitar through my f/x pedal and lower it down, but nothing can really beat the true sound and feel of a bass line
  15. Ahh maybe 2 marsbars Ahh well so it aint a fender.. for a fiver.. you cant go wrong anyway.. done some Looking at her.. solid alder body.. 2 part maple neck... cant say much about electronics as i dont have much clue when it comes to bass's... as i usually play/custom electric guitars... Shes buetifal to play.. so easy.. and same reason as you, the only reason i brought it was so i could do some basslines to a couiple of recordings ive done using my studio
  16. Hey!!! I haventr spoken to you in person Matt BUT reading around the forum, ive learnt a LOT from your posts you CANT leave us dude, your absolouty amazing, wont be the same without you I think i speak for a lot of people when i say that if you were to leave, you would be missed by a LOT of people
  17. Went into school today when i saw a friend of mine carrying an old bass... He was about to throw it away when i asked him what was wrong with it. He told me the pickups were screwed and he listed many other problems. With al that said i still offered him £5 thinking there cant be to many problems with it... Got it back into the music dept where i decided to have a look at the problem he said,... The pickups just needed lifting up from the body slightly, and the volume pot just needed resoldering I now have a VERY NICE bass... (coming from a guitar player)... The bassist in the band im in has said the bridge alone on it is worth at least £40 and that it *could* be a vintage fender.. *hopes*.... im taking it in soon to my local store so they can evaluate it... heres a picture of her...
  18. I just had a look on the EBAY page again... 10 day listing...One day left... and still no bids Prehaps this is suggesting something, not sure hehe ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  19. This isnt meant to sound harsh in ANYWAY but, dude you REALLY shouldnt care what we think Its YOUR guitar and should build it how you like REGARDLESS of what others say All that said... it DOES sound REALLY cool make sure you post some pictures of it when you start work ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  20. Heh that looks SOO weird! I have to agree with jnewman, the sound coming from that could be very quiet... thus meaning needing to carry an amp, n so defeating the object they are selling it for All that said, i again agree with jnewman, i cant see why you wouldnt make one exactly the same. May be very difficult... you MUST throw us some pictures when your doing/done the project! ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  21. Personally i dont like the look of em BUT... i can understand why people would I like my guitars to have big bodys on them, i dont know why i do, just a personal prefrence. Both my custom and my KKV have large bodys on them Might recommend it to the bassist in my band, hes always looking for new bass's and isnt afraid of spending money ~~ Slain Angel ~~
  22. Slightly off subject i know but at a guitar show recently i played an Aria LP copy (blue sunburst) It played AMAZINGLY nice and for a price tag of £190 i was amazed Just about to buy it when i saw a KKV across the room, i HAD to go and play it... and then decided to take the KKV ... played nicer, looked nicer (in my opinion) and was a Sig by Kerry King and it only cost a little more SOryr for the off topic post... just seemed a little relevant and wanted to help
  23. Well i must confess at this point... although its my custom guitar n im doing pretty much all of it... when it comes to the finish ive told me dad what i want n he wil do it.. hes done this sorta thing a lot and e knows what hes doin so ill leave tht all to him Cheers Devon Headen ne way L8rz
  24. LOL ever so slightly ott BUT very informative very usefull cheers MartinP
