  1. I'm making a neck through guitar using a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and black limba (korina) body. What looks better, leave the maple plain and have a contrast in wood or stain the maple darker so it's at least closer to the color of the dark korina wood?
  2. Thanks, that's without any wetting or oil. I can't wait to finish that top and watch patterns jump out from the guitar.
  3. Gluing the bookmatched figured top together. I had to weigh it down with a paint can, my router, and a palm sander because the two pieces were slightly warped. As long as my center line is flush, all is good.
  4. I'm starting a Peavey T-60 Project. It will have a lacewood back with a very nice figured maple top. It will be back routed because I want as much figuring showing as possible. Here's the template I printed out:
  5. Thanks for the clarification. They did sound great, they were just in a project turned bad. I've got too many others going now for other set ups to be using these. I've had a lot of questions, so if anyone is interested, act fast!
  6. Which SD P90's are they? There are 3 versions in the Harmony Central Database, not sure if there are more than that. Jeff ← All they say on the back is Seymour Duncan. There's a 1B and 1N for bridge and neck, but I don't know if the 1 means anything. They weren't too hot, so I don't think they'd be that model. Probably vintage is what they sounded like.
  7. I'm selling two Seymour Duncan P90 soapbar pickups for $60 and will ship them to you for free.
  8. Body and neck sold, but lacewood blank still available:
  9. What kind of neck? Post a pic, I may be interested.
  10. It was off the Bay, but I can't recall the source. I'll try to go back and look at my account and see if I have the record. I really just did a "spalted maple" key word search. I've found awesome stuff looking for "figured maple" too.
  11. Click Here! I have a body, a neck, and a lacewood blank all up for auction. Great project stuff!
  12. That's great. I don't know how many times I've gone back to work with sawdust in my hair.
  13. I might be interested in it, how much would you want for it? ←
  14. I just decided to dismantle it all, save the parts and call it a lost cause. Chalk it up to experience. I'll probably post the body on the Bay and see if someone will actually pay some cash to try and salvage it.
  15. Actually, Marksound, it is a Washburn N1 neck. Good eye. Thanks again for all the feedback. I'm going to take it all in. I'm completing a hollowbody right now, and I just got some lacewood and a killer maple top to start another solid body (I'll start another thread for that one to avoid this problem), so I may take some time getting to the refurb on this thing.
  16. Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the semi hollow neck really doesn't go with it, but I liked the way the neck felt so much, that I sacrificed with the headstock. The Mohog was my first real attempt, so I did leave a little too much material in that upper horn. I'll try to see what I can do with the spalted maple. Thanks for all the constructive criticism. Best building.
  17. Thanks for all the comments. I was thinking of shaping each curve to a point. Then it would be much more metal looking. Kind of like a BC Rich Warlock. The neck is a Washburn N1 I believe, and I liked the way it felt, so I tried to make it work with this body idea. I really don't want to scrap the body before I try to rework this. Let me know if you think the Warlock idea is a good one. It's hard to believe it from the way this one looks, but I made these other two first.
  18. Guys, I need some help. I really don't like the way this turned out. I had an idea for a kind of twisted SG looking guitar, but I don't like the end result. Any ideas? The sound is what I wanted with P90 pickups, so that's not the problem, simply aesthetics. It has a spalted maple top with a black walnut back. The top was brushed laquer and the walnut was rubbed with tung oil. images deleted read the picture posting rules, then come back and fix up this post.
  19. Awesome, I've been waiting to see what you were going to do with that. We were having a sort of dual build going on. Check it out: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...topic=17745&hl=
  20. Long time for progress, but I've been traveling a lot for work and I'm getting married in about a month. I'm trying to get this done by the wedding and play something for my new wife with it. Here's a link to a slideshow of the progress so far: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/t1r12003/sli...r=/d9b5&.src=ph I need to trim a little more around the neck pocket, and then I'm going to thin out the top by about 1/4", right now it's 1/2" thick. I'll get some braces for it and then glue it to the body. More pics to follow.
