  1. You could buy it from fryovanni... that's what I did, and I got some KILLER pieces. He's got a thread going in buy/sell/trade.
  2. Infidel! Vile Slanderer! . You really don't like the way strats look? To each his own, I guess.
  3. Actually a pedal steel guitar is the kind that has pedals that raise and lower strings and sits on a stand... that one's a lap steel guitar .
  4. Looks great! I like the pinstripe, and I bet the sycamore'll go really well with it.
  5. If you do end up with chisels, just make sure you get 'em really, really sharp. I actually did a bit more today with the chisels and cut out the hole for the TOM to sit in (have a 0-angle neck)... I think it came out better than it would have with a router. I still did the pup cavities with the router though .
  6. Hahaha... that's awesome. I hope even if Gemleggat doesn't end up doing it, someone builds it!
  7. Chisels hey? .... Why does that word scare me!! ← Well, I finished my neck heel up, got a nice smooth AANJ looking thing going without that funny ledge around the edge. I tried using a little 1/2" sanding drum with a dremel, and couldn't get it to work well. The chisels did a GREAT job and left a much more even surface that needed a lot less leveling and sanding. Chisels aren't scary . I was really surprised at how much control I had, you just have to be careful to go the right direction so you don't get under the grain and lift up big chips. I don't know if it's the best thing with what you want to do, but I wasn't happy with how the sanding drums were working. Anyway, let us know how it goes - it looks great so far!
  8. I suspect he means musiciansfriend.com, which is basically guitar center's online store.
  9. I like the before better. I think you had it right the first time, and I think it looks great!
  10. I'm going to have to say, being in process on my first guitar, necks aren't as scary as they seem - just go slow and be careful and don't use power tools if you're just starting .
  11. You'll have a hard time doing that with a sanding drum because you can never quite get the angles right. I'm in process on a neck-through presently too, and I got it most of the way with sanding drums and I think I'm going to start in on it with chisels in the next few days - it's the only way I can think of to get a good scoop out like that.
  12. I've played through a wah before (but don't have one), and I almost never use any effects pedals. I've been meaning to get a decent blues/classic rock sort of overdrive pedal for playing at lower volumes, I just haven't gotten around to it. I was looking at Menatone pedals, I've heard some good things about them.
  13. A hand plane works pretty well. That's what I did.
  14. Man, I hate to be OT, but do you have a tutorial anywhere for making one of those planes ? That thing's slick.
  15. Don't let 'em get you down . Unless you're planning on doing some really weird kind of detail carve that removes a LOT of wood you don't want three inches thick... Most guitars are between an inch and a half and two inches. Also, most body blanks are around 20"x16"... if you're really planning on making a guitar with a 35"x25" body blank, you're likely to get something pretty unplayable...
  16. From the size of the piece of wood you're talking about, it sounds more like you want to do a one-piece guitar, not a neck-through. A neck-through is when you have a single board (or laminate) down the middle of the guitar that is perhaps 3-4 inches wide with separate wings, each 5-8" wide glued on the sides to make the body. Making a one-piece is a lot harder than a neck-through.
  17. Wow. This guy's seriously the biggest idiot I've ever seen.
  18. The Martin backpacker guitar is nice if you want a guitar to stick in your backpack... but it's not nice if you want a guitar to play. Ever. They sound like crap and they're the most uncomfortable guitars I've ever used . (Please note, I've never used a broomstick) The baby Taylor really is as good as everyone is saying - I couldn't believe it the first time I heard one.
  19. I finally got home and got to look at the limba set I bought from you - it's perfect! Great wood, looks killer, gonna make me a nice P-90 SG .
  20. I really sort of like the middle left one, for all I said earlier .
  21. Aren't dogear P90's meant to be surface-mounts?
  22. So basically, you want to take a lefty (reverse) guitar... and make it right handed... If you actually try to make it really comfortable for a righty, you're going to be back to a normal strat shape . You need the top horn long for strap balance and a really long lower horn looks bad, but it has to be really long if you want "reverse" shape but still have upper fret access. It just seems like sort of an impossible situation.
  23. Y'know, you consistantly make my favorite guitars on this whole site - I wish I could afford to buy one from you. Maybe some day .
  24. I've never had any problems with my fender strat-shaped hard case... it fits in the overhead bins between bags and the doors that close the bins. I'm not sure one of the big rectangular ones would, though. You can also sometimes get them to put it in the little coat closet in first class (is that what you meant by "musical instrument locker"? ).
  25. I'd be a lot less worried about it if he'd actually put a picture of the crack in the auction, sometimes that kind of things comes back to bite you. Also, like bluespresence said, it's really not in very good shape. If that's an 8/10 cosmetically, his personal system must have 0/10 as no paint left at all and saw cuts and drill holes all over the body .
