  1. Probably is, since this was thrown together with spare parts. Any tips on how to do it without wrecking the threads?
  2. Well the good news is that the Tele neck and Strat body went together without a hitct. In fact it turned out to be my favorite guitar because it plays so nice. I just need a nice Swineshead Xbucker in there and I'm all set. Problem is that the adjustment screws in the saddles sit high and tear my hand up rather nastily. Anyone have some solutions for that? I imagine I can buy shorter screws, but maybe you guys have a cheaper fix? Yes?
  3. Pay attention to small things. I was having a HELLUVA time getting my templates to come out even halfway right, then I had a revalation and checked. Sure enough, my scroll saw blade was in upside down.
  4. It's a known scam, the guitars are crap.
  5. I was given a pretty decent Flying V body the other day, but on neck. I'd like to make a replacement, but a template or drawing would start me off right. Anyone? Anyone?
  6. Dig this!! I just looked through the goodie bag he gave me and there's a Leo Quan badass bridge in there. How cool is that?
  7. You made sure the guitar will still intonate, right? How much of the neck did you take away? And, uh, what are you going to do with the hollowbody? I took nothing off of the neck, I just reshaped the end of the neck pocket to be flat instead of curved. I measured the scale length and determined that if I did what I did, it would intone more easily since the bridge pieces will center at the desired length more closely. As for the hollow body? I have no plans for now. It's a plywood body, so I'm not too impressed. I someone were to offer me a set of tuner pegs for it though...
  8. You just answered my question. Thanks, bro.
  9. I'm curious to know where I might look to find a shop that uses CNC routers. I'd like to get a price on having a body cut out, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to look. What industries should I search?
  10. Yep, I used a chisel and got it done in about five minutes, smooth as butter. Now I just need some tuners and to wire it up. Thanks guys.
  11. That's exactly what I mean. I have three bar clamps, but only two allow me to put the wood all the way down to the bar. The other one is a quick grip type. Maybe I need anothe bar clamp or two.
  12. Despite what most people think of him, myself included, Zachary made one really cool looking guitar. HERE.. I have the wood, but I need to know how to finish it to look like that. Are there any special considerations for these types of wood?
  13. Anyone come up with a jig or way to keep edge glued boards perfectly flat in the clamps? I'm sure there's a simple solution to this
  14. I though about that too. Maybe that will be more practical. I have my chisels sharpened to where I can shave with them, so maybe I'll try that. Thanks.
  15. Make a template of 1/2" MDF or plywood, make sure it matches exactly how you need the neck to fit, then do it on the guitar body using that template and a standard hand router with a template bit, not a dremel. Whatever you do, don't go freehand routing a neck pocket. Got it. I have a brand spanking new tracing router bit, too!
  16. Pursuant to my major score of free guitar parts, I'm planning to use the Squier Tele neck on the Strat body I received. I need to route the neck pocket to a square end for it to fit perfectly. How's the best way to do it? I was thinking about tracing the outline on the neck pocket area and going very carefully freehand. There's not much to take off, but I realize how bad a sloppy job can look. It's a really nice body, so I'm looking for advice so I don't wreck it. Maybe a Dremel?
  17. You do a lot of things that scare me. Screwing template to body and routing template out with body as a guide. What is wrong with tracing body out of piece of paper and tracing paper back on MDF. This way you don't harm the guitar. Even better is to get RG Cad file..... With building custom body it makes sense to go the AANJ route. It looks and feels so much better. I see your point about screwing the template to the body for sure, but I don't care about this body because it's plywood and sounds like crap. I wouldn't expect anyone to do that. You could also use double stick tape to do the job. Tracing a paper template onto MDF is the most common way to go and I actually tried that first. One thing I learned is that templates ar HARD to make accurately and this was just easier and more accurate. I have the RG cad files posted here, but I made and printed my own, so I could customize little things. As far as the AANJ goes, I'm planning to build this guitar that way, but I just haven't cut the shape into othe template yet. The site is really put there for people to see how I do things and possibly learn tips, or what not to do. I suggest reading everything you can and simply cutting some wood. It's what I'm doing.
  18. SCORE!! Yes mates!! The fella was for real and he gave me everything I posted as well as a badass bridge like this one. He also gave me four Strat pickguards, one H/S/H (a nice Warmoth pearloid one that I'm using) and three S/S/S white ones. Al in all it was a great haul and a gracious gift. The Tele neck fits in the pocket, but I need to rout the body a bit to make the heel fit cleanly. I'm thinking about doing THIS to the headstock. It's very close to being the right size. I also have a tremolo bridge and posts from my crappy Ibanez RX that fits nicely into the blue Strat body and I also have spare pickups from that axe. Now all I need is tuner pegs and a to do little woodwork, and I have myself a second guitar. How cool is that? The blue body he gave me is just about perfect, too. No scratches or chips, I don't think he even USED it. Yesterday was a good day.
  19. Go to my website and see how mine comes out. I'm sure you're better than me, since this is my first guitar.
  20. I just had a guy offer me a couple of strat bodies and a telecaster neck. Would the Tele neck work on the Strat body, assuming it's in good shape? Could be a sweet hookup. Here's what he offered me for free: 1 blueburst amercican standard strat body in pretty good shape 1 tobacco sunburst am std strat body thats pretty hacked up 1 black V body in good shape with a pickguard 1 squier tele neck 1 unknown hollow japanese body with matching neck 2 guild humbuckers 2 unknown single coils Waiting to hear from him and you guys.
  21. Another few updates, kids. That is all.
  22. Man is that nice!! I really dig the inlays, too.
