  1. Man, I really, really like this. Excellent use of grain directions, especially on the girl. Are the outlines epoxy and ebony dust? I don't know if this was done on purpose, but the thick-thin qualities ot the outlines make it look like it was inked with a brush like a cartoonist does. **That's a good thing in my book** Very, very nice work, John.

  2. That was his style, and I don't think the songs would have the same feel and emotion if he played with technical precision.

Back to Robin Trower, I've been listening to some of his live stuff the last couple of days and my lord that stuff is just dripping tone! Reminds me of the time I saw him live at Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City. That was during the Eagle and the Dove--Bridge of Sighs heyday. The sound was huge. Do they even have stadium concerts anymore?

Oh wait, I remember seeing Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley on the Marquee for Reliant stadium last summer. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places....genres. :D

  3. Well......I like it a lot better after the black stain and wool and laquer.....but it still looks like something pulled from the ashes of a burning refuse heap. I mean that in the nicest possible way :D. It does look likeit belongs in one of those end of the world type action flicks. I know you are working by feel here, trying treatments out and seeing if the results feel right. I think it is ugly and yet pretty cool in a molten metallic sort of way. Is it getting close to your vision?

    If so, then:

    Well done! :D

  4. Wow. This is very nicely done, John. Very impressive to look at. I wasn't really feeling the white sides until you turned it over and the black neck join is visible. Then it rocks. :D How bad is it going to pi$$ you off when the face gets scratched? It will get scrached. :D

  5. thanks. finally got the replacement spring for my drill press so hoping to get a bunch done this weekend.

Realized i also haven't posted any pics of the fretboard, which i sanded up through the grits and is now super super shiny.

Well, pop them on up here already. :D

Been wondering where you went mate. I was hoping weren't just teasing us with these shots of lovely work and blue dye, only to walk away and leave us hanging....

  6. Yeah, I've heard that's a pretty town. That's strange about the difficulty of finding hardwoods, when so many nice ones come from there. I''ve got Cocobolo, and Bocote that came from there and mahagony that probably did. I would love to find some Desert Ironwood for a carving. All I can find is already carved and is at the aforementioned mercados. Although the prices are pretty good so I've seriously considered buying a carving and using it for a carving.... which is kind of what Mike did with his flea market find. He says as he tries to bring this back from a 100% hijack--Sorry about that Mike.
