  1. im lefthanded and have a righty strat the only difference in playability to my lefty guitars is fret access, i can reach three more frets on a lefty strat than my righty. are those three frets enough to compromise the shape you want? (if i ever do use them i just tap them and the vibrato on my tapping hand has always been better) and once i got the hang of controling the volume with my palm/wrist i wanted all my volume knobs to be on the "wrong side" and i dont understand why you would want a pickguard AND back routing why not just get thicker aluminium and mount your pups in the pickguard like every other strat
  2. some wicked sabbath covers under the sun - sepultura snow blind - SOAD NIB - primus
  3. i made one out of aluminium checkerplate from a boat building place it was .5metre square and about 3.5mm thick and it cost me 10nzd (bout 6-7 usd) i just grabbed it out of the scrap bin and he reckoned $5 but i only had a $10 note so we went to the office for change and the boss made me pay $10 damnit. but ive got enough for at least 2 more scratchplates so it wasnt too bad i used a metal blade on a jigsaw to cut it. i just traced the original pick guard on then cut it out roughly then filed it to exact shape. drilled the holes and put it on.it took bout an hour. easy as well worth doing
  4. i like the sort of novelty size style sort of looks like something out of a cartoon what do you mean by stereo wireing of the pickups what came to my mind was a stereo output with seperate signal for the neck and bridge pickups but i have a feeling its not
  5. I know it is a common practice this days, but this was recorded in 1983-1984 ← who knows black dog was triple tracked but that was probably 1 amp. but anyways i think as long as youre playing the songs accurately getting the exact tone doesnt seem as important unless your doing a tribute band or something even then some of the best tribute bands ive seen dont have a very similar tone to the recordings but play it so exact it sounds better than an approximation with the perfect tone
  6. getting the exact tone of any recorded EQed (and any effects) mixed guitar isnt very likely (who knows how many tracks they use, 3 different amps simultaniously then triple tracked left then triple tracked right and similar are pretty commom place on rock albums these days ) especially with the gear hes got i stil say a decent patch is his best bet
  7. this is quite a cool site bout bands rigs its got maidens as of year 2000 maybe do a search for zoom 3030 patches and you might find a maiden one i found heaps of patchs for my korg ax1500g for specific bands/guitarists some good some bad
  8. Can you tell me were is this, 'cause I will tell a lot of people not to take their cars there, I bet they splice wires with aligator clips and then put masking tape over them. ← yes i can tell you where this is, its a little country called new zealand (hence the nzd).but i dont think its a feasible plan to tell all 4million of us not to go to a mechanic
  9. its the exact opposite for me i find replacing rings alot more complicated than installing pickups but ive only done rings on fiddly japanese roadbikes (a gsxr 750 and a fireblade) so that may or may not explain it. either way it seems why i think $100 for an active install was over the top was because it was something that I found reasonably easy. i can now see why people that find it a complicated task think its a reasonable price (i was bracing for you to tear my reply apart sentence by sentence again )
  10. whoa i think this argument may stem from the huge difference in labour ive never heard of a mechanic charging more than $40nzd here(29usd) why i said what i did about mechanics was because i have installed emgs and other actives in quite a few guitars (some mine some my friends) with no backround noise it is nowhere near as complicated/difficult/require as many tools/get you as dirty as say replacing rings (something i have also done) but the point im trying to get across is that mechanics plumbers are skilled tradesmen who have probably spent years on apprentice wages whereas installing pickups does take some skill but not years as an aprentice sort of skill
  11. it took me bout 1 1/2 hours the first time i installed emgs just over half that the second time with no previous experience i think its ridiculous paying $100 for around an hours work, its not rocket science how would you feel if your mechanic/plumber charged 100/hr? especially for something anybody who can follow simple instructions can do maybe its different wherever you guys are but here when someone calls you a ripoff for charging WAY more than they do theres really nothing you can say back unless you have seen their quality of work
