  2. I have the Valvetrox 30 watt amp and I bought my son a Traynor YCS-50 . The Vox was a jump up from my solid state Marshall on the clean tones but let's put it this way I can't listen to the Vox anymore compared to the Traynor. Thats not a knock on the Vox the Traynor is more money. It's a great amp. congrats on the Strat it looks great.
  3. Guys thanks a lot for the info this is tremendous. I will take your advice on the neck it makes a lot of sense. And I will practice with the router, I've never used one before. I said it before here, this forum is a treasure.
  4. Happy New Year to you too and thanks for the tip.
  5. I finshed a Strat for myself and I am almost finished one that I assembled one for my son. I am ready to try something more challenging. For the two guitars I bought the parts, neck, body etc. and finished them myself. I have no wood working experience other than these guitars. I bought a router yesterday because I want to build a body. I was thinking Tele since there are no contours and I would like to have an edge binding. I came across the Roukangas guitars on the web and the flamed birch tops blew me away. I was thinking Alder body with a flamed birch top. Does anyone know where I could get a piece of flamed birch. I did a search on the net but didn't get any results. Any comments on my first build. I'm not sure I could do a neck but if te body turns out OK I may give it a try. I figure I could buy the fret board pre slotted and go from there.
  6. Thanks Merry Christamas to you and everyone els on the forum.
  7. I guess I will chalk it up to experience and move on but it irks me that these guys are getting away with this. The Better Buisness Bureau in Tula said they have recieved a number of complaints about them in the last few months. Anyway nuff said.
  8. Well it looks like I am out the money for the guitar body. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.music.m...f6ecfb?lnk=raot I called the Tulsa Better Business Bureau and lodged a complaint. I noticed orders weren't filled after money was taken and they were all ready having problems. If they were going under they should not have taken orders. This is in my opinon criminal activity. I suggested this to the Better Business Bureau. They are going to look into it. Hopefully no one else here got involved with them.
  9. Should get the amp checked it definately has a fault. Also you should look into using a portable GFI it could save your life. They run around $50 .
  10. Are you painting with brushes, aerosol cans or a compressor? What ever I would paint the logos and then clear coaat but I am no expert. I've only stained a guitar and then used minwax to clear it. I've used water slide decal paper to do a small logo but I don't know how large you want to make the logo.

  12. An autobody repair place may clear coat it for a reasonable amount. Their finish dries and hardens very quickly. You could take it there and inquire. They might be able to advise you on what type of paint is compatable with their clear coat. If you start adding up your supplies including mistakes it may not be unreasonable to take it there.

  14. Good point. I guess they should have made it right immediately or else told you if there would be a delay due to unexpected circumstances or... I finally got ahold of them and asked them to refund my Credit Card several weeks ago they were to E-mail me if the card is not on file. I will check my card statement when it comes in but I am prepared to be disappointed. Tony...
  15. Try Bill Lawrence pickups. They sell several single coil pickups, totally noiseless. They are as quiet as humbuckers. They still sound very single coil. He designed the current SCN pickups for Fender. I have a set in my Strat that I assembled. I am very happy. They run about $40 each. It looks like the site is under construction so here are some links. Also Harmony central has reviews on his pickups and other makers also. http://www.billlawrence.com/ Here is a board devoted to Bill Lawrence products. http://pub123.ezboard.com/fguitarsbyfenderfrm8
  16. There is a mod to install true by pass by changing the switch from a single pole to double pole switch. It's out on the net somewhere. It my be adaptable to your petal. I remember running across it some time back.
  17. I agree and that is why I inquired before posting any names. I don't want to slander a legitimate business because I was disappointed but they should keep their word and replace it. There may be a legitimate reason why they are slow sending a replacement but a long tiime has gone by. Yes I should have sent it back immediately but it was their idea to have me return it not mine. When I initially called them it was just to complain I had no intention in sending it back because i felt I could work around it. I described the flaw and they were fully aware that I had started to work on it but they insisted that I return it. The upside is if I get the replacement I'll just have to build another guitar right????? If someone is interested they can mail me privately. I'll keep it off the forum.
  18. ebay? what was wrong with the body? It wasn't E-Bay it was a company. When I got it it had a saw cut in the middle of the upper curve before the horn. It was about 3/4 of an inch deep and they had filled it with some kind of filler. The two routes on the back instead of flowing into the heel just ended abruptly. I was going to paint it and I thought what the heck. But when the body was sanded the filler came away and left the wood. I got some auto two part spot putty and filled it. I decided to call them and complain and they said send it back and they would replace it. I didn't want to send it back but they insisted. I didn't want to wait because it was being built for my son. That was about six weeks ago and I haven't recieved a replacement. I called twice and twice they they said it was on it's way. I sent an E-mail two weeks ago and they never responded. Latey they don't answer their phone if you can get through since their phone is usually busy. I just ordered a body from Warmoth today to finish up the guitar. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but I am pretty ticked off.
  19. Had a bad buying experience purchasing a guitar body. I would like to warn others about the merchant but I don't know if it is appropriate or allowed on this forum. Any comments? I hate to see someone else get taken.
  20. Use chlorine I did on mine but I used regular Javex. Pool chlorine is recommended, it's much stronger and will work faster and deeper. It will wash away the dye almost completely.
  21. The knot is on the bottom you coud fill and paint the bottom and dye and clear thge top ?? The wood looks great!!!!
  22. could you not design the shape to have the knot in a control cavity or something similar? Unfortunately the knot is not where I would normally put a control cavity. I have been looking at small travel guitars lately, and although I don't travel I think some of them look pretty cool. This is how the wood was when I bought it. I didn't cut it to that shape, and I wasn't the one who drew the outline on in liquid paper Where did you get the mango veneer? Tony..
  23. This is the best I can do. I started by dying it red but sanded it off and switch the color to yellow. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/bugl...5dec16060-2.jpg I made about every mistake that's possible. But it finally got done. Tony...
