  1. I have had the body cut out and sanded for a while but haven't had any pictures but here is where the body is now. I still have to do some filing to the the curves right but other than that it's pretty close to shape. I also have the neck glued up. I will post a picture tomorow.
  2. Yeah it's been a while. I have been busy but I have finished a few. Here is the body as it is now. I started to get the top carved. And the back. Good thing where it chipped is where the carve will be on the back.
  3. With my first seven string on its way to the furnace this winter and my OM acoustic and MN guitar on hold for the moment. I have decded to start a new one but this one will be bolt on. I am still deciding what to do for neck woods. Specs Body: Butternut with a slightly carved maple top Neck: White or Red oak Fretboard: Black Walnut or Oak with jumbo frets Electronics: 2 vol. 1 tone, 3 way selector switch Pickups: Seymour Duncan Full Shred humbuckers Bridge: Black ESP LTD Flyod Rose Tuners: Black Gotoh Schaller style tuners Finish: Either Danish oil or I think it's called Jakarta stain. I don't have any pictures yet but so far I have the body glued and shaped and I glued the top this morning. I will be starting on the neck hopefully this week and will hopefully have the hardware by next week.
  4. I am looking at building a basic MIDI fotswitch. All I want is a pedal with two foot switches. I would be putting it on my Digitech Whammy pedal so I don't have to constantly be bending over to change the selection so all I need is two switches, one that makes the selection go up and one that makes it go down. I have no idea how to wire or do anything with MIDI and I haven't been able to find anything online on how to wire it. All I find is info on channels and the like but I don't make sense of it. Any help here?
  5. Finally getting a chance to get in the shop today. Hopefully I will have some progress pictures up later.
  6. But when they start to drain doesn't the signal weaken? I have never owned active pickups I prefer Passive but would like to try Actives.
  7. I like to do things myself and I don't know that much about making power supplies. I know how to design circuits but have never looked at power supplies before. I suppose I could use rechargables I don't typically use them though because they begin to loose their charge after recharging them a few times.
  8. Actually would this even work since a regular house outlet is AC current and a 9v battery is DC current?
  9. For my next build I am planning on using active pickups but don't want to keep buying batteries so I thought "What if I could make a stompbox that would work as an external power supply that turns 120v to 9v ?" Obviously I would have to add an extra jack which is no big deal to me since I will be making a special cord for this if it works. My only questions is if anyone out there thinks this is fiesable even and if I should make a resistor array or just use one resistor? I will be designing a circuit tomorow and will post it here.
  10. I asked about this a while back and most of my answers were to just figure it out. The basic idea is simple just assemble and wind but then you have to think about f-spaced pickups and that sort of thing. Then you need to figure out what type of sound you want and how many windings you will need (several thousand at least) I am not a master at pickups and I haven't built one yet but that is what I have gathered so far.
  11. sounds interesting. You will have to post the idea when you work it out.
  12. I like the finish like that honestly. Flat black, no gloss, and the gold hardware look good. To bad when you put clear it will get glossy. But that's just my personal opinion of course. And I feel ya. I tryed building 4 guitars once. I started them all last september and haven't finished one of them yet because I have been to busy.
  13. I miss read that post sorry for the confusion I thought you were talking about the rhoads having those.
  14. Is the way the headstock looks in this picture what you mean by pin hole marks?
  15. When I do clear finishes on mahogany I like to have the grain holes showing on it. I think it looks better than a perfectly smooth finish.
  16. exactly. I use behlen powdered aniline for almost everything. Works great. Do you have any pictures of what you think I should do?
  17. So true ... I don't have that extreme of a crack or in your case split but still. That's quite a waste too, that was one damn nice looking piece of quilted maple. And Restoration AD I will take very good pictures of the burning
  18. beautiful work. How much are you selling it for?
  19. Thanks Spencer. I haven't done anything more on this one. The weather isn't cooporating. The temp in the shop last night was 100F at almost 9pm. I don't have the outside temp sensor setup yet but it was probably around 105F heat index. The local football teams are practicing indoors because the heat index on the fields is approaching 120F. It's gotta break soon. I don't remember a more uncomfortable summer in recent years. Stay cool! Mark Where are you from that it's that hot? I thought it was hot here in northern Minnesota at 85 degrees.
