  1. Actually, I think what he's describing are harp harmonics. I love them on my acoustic. So great sounding. If I'm not mistaken Django does a whole passage of harp harmonics in Nuages (sp?). Good stuff. Devon
  2. I think I'll pass on the slam thread ######Now off topic's over ####### Got any pics yet?
  3. What exactly are the differences between Vector and Raster graphics?
  4. Would it be possible to get more memory for longer samples? Devon
  5. Are you gonna try to use it without finishing? I don't particularly like the feel of finished fretboards, so I'm interested in whether the wood is oily enough. Devon
  6. These were the "carving" attatchments not straight-cut, right? What kinds of bits do you guys use for inlay. A picture would probably help if you can scrape one up. Thanks, Devon
  7. I'm curious as to what you charge too.
  8. He got a major good deal on that sexy beast! You sell 'em any cheaper and you might as well give 'em away . Great guitar Matt. Devon That gnome really is quite frightening
  9. My point exactly. When doing the edges of the inlay, do you use the straight cut bit on the base, or do you use the carving attatchment? Seems to me like the fine point carving attatchments would be good for the edges (so they aren't so rounded), but I just can't find a way to set the depth for them. With the Stewmac base, can you attatch it to the flexshaft? I really want to be able to do that, and with the Dremel base I can't, so I have to take the Flex-shaft off everytime I want to do more precise work. Devon
  10. Brian...there are women here? Pick on them? We'll want to date them . Devon
  11. The stand that comes with the dremel tool, even when set at it's deepest setting won't carve anything with the shorter shank bit. even the longer shanked bit doesnt cut accurately to the depth that I set the base at. Devon
  12. Now we know where all of Wes' posts come from :-P. Two weeks is quite ambitious for having to order all of these parts. Even if the guitar already had all of it's parts and you had the finish in your hand (I'm assuming you are using lacquer), I wouldn't play it in two weeks. If you go for a wax or oil instead, you might could get it done in time.
  13. That really depends on how complex your work is gonna be, how much you are gonna be trying to produce, and whether you're ok using hand tools instead of power tools. I've gotta go now, but I'd say get the book lotass mentioned, and it'll give you a fairly specific idea of the tools you'll need, and the experience you'll need to biuld a good guitar. For the second question, the answer is absolutely, just look at some of the guys' instruments around this forum. Hope this helps, Devon
  14. ok...off any subject in this thread, but relating to inlay cavity routing, my dremel tool's (I just got it and love it ) bits have different length shanks. This mean that the stand that came with it doesn't work with all the bits right? Now I'm a little stumped...I've been practicing inlaying a lot, but I can never seem to get the cavity the perfect depth all the way around. Any tips?
  15. That is a very good book, but you'll want to practice everything LOTS before you take it to your exotic, expensive wood.
  16. I'd recommend checking with your local high school/community college for woodworking classes...might mean taking a shot to your pride, but it'll be worth it.
  17. Ok...couple more questions on wood. ANIEGRE, and WENGE. I know I've seen a few people use wenge on FBs so I'm pretty sure it's good for that, but I'm wondering more about bodies with these woods. I'll probably have some more wood questions before the night is over. I got a mad deal on some purpleheart last night, but the picture kinda sucked on it, so we'll have to see how it turns out. I've got plans for my first guitar in the works now...I'm starting get excited now . I'll have to post plans on here sometime. Thanks again. Devon
  18. Getting speedy replies around here or is it just me? I think I'm gonna try some zebrawood, but I'm gonna start looking for bocote too. I just can't get over how amazing that stuff looked.
  19. dang...too many names to remember :-0. Alright, thanks guys Devon
  20. Anyone have experience with zebrawood in fingerboards? I think it would look really good, but I'm clueless on density/tone issues. Also, I was looking around for cocobolo (cause I really like Wes' cocobolo FB), and all of it I find looks really red. As I recall Wes' was almost like Zebrawood with grain like cocobolo. Anybody got any ideas on that difference there? Later, Devon
  21. Completely off subject, but I was gone for about 3 days, and when I get back everyone has a new avatar. What's up with that?
  22. And Lex Where'd you learn to carve like that! Your work is some of the best I've seen on the boards
  23. Point is, they're still great instruments no matter how many are left :-D.
  24. I thought you were supposed to be a Christian. That's not very nice now is it? Glad I live in the UK, they're 'orrid. "Mamma says cicadas are the devil "
  25. Anybody have any that they really like? US available would be best for me.
