  1. I am planning a build for a neck through jaguar. I'm going with a tom bridge and a 1.5 inch profile. I've seen some of you guys recess the bridge but I don't know if you put an angle on the neck or not. So what are the advantages of going with an angle on the neck versus none.
  2. I found a local guy with some pecan (cut 7 years ago and air dried). thoughts?
  3. so poplar alone isn't recommended... say we laminated it with two strips of 1/4 oak and an oak fretboard? what can i say, i like oak also is white poplar (aspen) the same as your usual poplar? i noticed it has less figuring and is a rather clean looking wood.
  4. so avengers, how do you feel about the poplar bodies? i've read its comprable to ash and basswood. is that a fair comparison? could you see it used in a neck?
  5. I used oak for a fret board and really liked how it turned out. It's durable and cheaper here than conventional choices for fretboard woods
  6. lol well i just took one and used a hacksaw and cut the end off and reshaped to look somewhat normal.
  7. i actually just made a 5 string electric mandolin and used a modified strat style bridge. they're 10mm wide usually so you got 10mm string spacing so plan accordingly.
  8. I find that carving into plied bodies looks pretty stinkin awesome. I would also encourage a great deal of carving into the heel. regardless, the guitar looks pretty awesome!
  9. actually i just sent you an email!
  10. sounds good. wanna pm the info i need to me?
  11. i want some tuners! how much to ship?
  12. i decided i want the generic tuners. do the saddles come with any of the screws for em? the mounting plate for em?
  13. i'm looking to get tuners. not sure which right now but pm me back please.
  14. got some more work done on it, started routing for pups and control cavity, also a little bit of work on the neck which still has a bit to be taken off to get to the right thickness.
  15. I got some work done on it in the last couple days. I came up with a headstock design, did my first scarf joint in the neck and glued the wings on. I was considering not doing that yet but i think i'll just run the router on a guide to cut the top and just carve the back with a rasp.
  16. lol. anyways as for the neck, will it be better to do the neck(scarf and shape) before or after gluing on the wings?
  17. progress! (despite the nasty weather) any tips for the scarf joint i'll be doing? i figure i'll be joining under the fretboard. i still need to get stuff planed like the tops of the wings and the entire neck.
  18. After finishing my sg, i decided i wanted to build something else; I decided I wanted to build an electric mandolin. I'll be building pretty much everything from scratch. So far I've made a body template and started cutting out the body. It'll be neck through with probably an oak neck. For the body I'm going to do a pine top that will be painted and for the back portion of the body plywood. The plywood i'm just going to stain so that you can see the many layers and i think will look awesome.
  19. thats one wild guitar. i love the paint job on it
  20. thanks, i'm eager to finish this
  21. just have to route humbuckers(don't have a router available) then finish painting. I'm pleased how the oak's grain shows through the paint also the white binding still looks nice after i got off all the old paint and repainted the neck. accidently routed too big for the bridge, i realized its cool as now i'll be able up-bend the tremolo more than normal. not sure if i'll do a full pick-guard or make rings, either way i'll have to make em so i'll have somewhere to mount the switches for the pickups.
