  3. And I'm done. Had a massive tear out with the router, the plunge router was very stiff and I kept eating into the template anyway, then it tore out the wood and template. In case you're wondering I had the router set on the highest rpm, and it was a brand new amana template routing bit. So I am officially done with this. Not gonna go through the expense of more wood and templates just to mess it up again. I tip my hat to all that can do it, because I just don't have the heart for it.
  4. Here is an update, all clamped and glued, and dont trip on those small open areas, I went back and clamped them.
  5. Finally after a delay got the neck glued up. I must admit for a newbie this was a total nightmare to keep together.
  6. Does anywhere sell pre radiused fretwire?
  7. Got the bottom portion of the body rough cut today. It came in THICK. It is 1 7/8" and I got to get it planed down to 1 1/8" thick.
  8. That is what I thought, and when I saw the pic of the guy planing his body I was like *** is he doing? I thought the bridge did a good enough job of determining neck angle.
  9. At the very end of the fretboard it came out to 2 1/4". At the nut it was 1 11/16"
  10. When doing neck angle. Do you have to hand plane and/or sand the very top of the guitar from the bridge to the neck joint to match the angle of the neck heel? I saw a thread where someone was planing the top of their Les Paul style guitar for neck angle. But I always thought this was just accomplished through the heel of the neck, not the top of the body too.
  11. Gorgeous guitar! Great work on it! I hope I'm as good as you are someday.
  12. Gorgeous guitars! Yeah I will just put an 1/8" veneer on there. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Everything just seems really hard to do when you never did it before.
  13. Yeah, after checking versus my template it looks like I am going to have to put a veneer on there and glue it the first way. I will just plane the surface of headstock and the angle of the scarf joint down 1/16" or 1/8" of an inch and put a quilt maple veneer on the top of it the same thickness I planed it to. Which would would be better, 1/16" or the 1/8"?
  14. Thanks, I didn't know that at all. I'll probably end up doing it the other way then. I think the walnut is nice enough I would feel odd putting a veneer on there. Plus, it's my first build, so the simpler it is, the better. Thanks for telling me that! I appreciate it.
  15. So I got my top wood in, some quilt maple, just waiting for my jointer to come in before I glue it together, but it's plenty large enough. I also got the neck wood in, some claro walnut, already jointed and planed. I decided to do my first scarf joint. I found the centerline and mocked up my templates around it, then I got my neck angle dialed in and drew my line and just went for my first cut, while terrifying accomplishing it was also a great relief. Didn't turn out half bad. I dont have a belt sander nor do I plan on getting one, but I will run these through the jointer and get them flat that way then glue them up and rout my truss rod channel.
  16. Most PRS's have a 25" scale length. You're right, I typed in the wrong thing.
  17. Been taking measurements of my CU 24 with a trem and thought I would share, just to, and just to see if anyone thought I was off on anything. End Of Headstock To Nut = 6 1/8" From Nut To Bridge Saddle = 25 1/2" Width Of Body At Largest Point = 13" Depth Of Neck Joint = 1 5/16" Length Of Body At Longest Point = 17 3/4" Depth Of Neck without fingerboard = 3/4" (mine is a wide thin) Body Thickness = 1 7/8" (Mahogany Back is 1 1/8" leaving maple cap thickness at 3/4") Neck Angle = 3.5 degrees Headstock Angle = 13 degrees
  18. I got my shop setup, just need to get an evaporative cooler, digital calipers, two sided tape, and some more router bits. I got my templates in the mail, not so sure how accurate they are, from the inside of the nut to the 12th fret is 12.5", but if you measure from inside of nut to where the saddle would be, it comes out to be 25.5" Got the bandsaw, drill press, table router, and plunge router, just waiting on the oscillating sander and practice wood and I am good to go!
  19. Thanks vero! My e-mail is cuylercarrington@hotmail.com if you still want to send that e-book.
  20. incorrect, and get off your high-horse where do I get it - a hardware store Lowes Home Deopt You asked a simple question and I gave you a simple answer. There's the links to the proof. If I'm a smartass for giving you the RIGHT ANSWER in it's SIMPLEST POSSIBLE FORM, then I guess I'm a smartass. And Mex is spot-on - Chris's tutorials are really helpful. Watch them a few times and soak it all in before you try anything. Like I said, I'm not going to get into the obvious with you. Thanks for the links.
  21. Dude, I'm not going to get into it with you. You know what you were doing, I know what you were doing. Thankfully someone else gave me a proper answer.
  22. Don´t pass up this offer. It´s a great read, and Chris´s tutorials are really good. There is nothing like actually seeing how it´s done. I tried to PM you, but it wouldn't let me. I have seen your tutorials on youtube though and actually they are what gave me the confidence to even try.
