  1. or you could do that - id prolly go with that one
  2. or they just didnt care about the scale but then what would be the point of making a template in cad if they didnt use the right scale...........lol idiots....
  3. Tube Doctor Yeah thats another reason for the use of a double neck guitar ^Having one half of the guitar in a diff tuning and the other in normal so that again, you dont have to pick up another guitar.... How good is gallows pole on the unledded tour???? that song is killer on a 12 string and same with no quarter that redone version is awesome.
  4. I hope it does........but in the meantime i will be thinking of ways i can get rid of it could i stain the whole top to the colour of the outside stain/heartwood and then dye or would that dye have nill effect bassically after it has been completely stained.... if i did completely stain this top and then done a cherry sunburst on it what do you think the turn out would be - would it be a really dark cherry sunbust??? lol - need some suggestions im dying here
  5. ...................danm u lol..............ive been waiting for a pic of that thing since i saw the topic about u getting ripped off lol..... i just wanna see what it looks like.... ive started my bolt to set neck conversion aswell but havent made much progress..... i bought my top for my les paul today hopefully be here in about max 8wks which is **** but hey its coming gotta get a slab of mahogany before i can start..... hope u have sucess with yours
  6. honestly, you may as well give it a go, what are you wasting - putty, a tiny slab of mahogany and power it may take more time but will it take more resources??? and if you do end up restoring the body you will always know that this is the complete guitar my dad used to play and not just half of it
  7. no.... studs is the right word im sure, the posts screw into the studs - hoping thats right - well if not i know what you are talking about Is this the guitar u got ripped off for on ebay? pics please lol i think it would be better if you did reccess the pickups into the body and they may (im not sure) obtain a warmer tone. you could always make you're own thread (metal lathe if you know someone who owns one) and put it thru the bottom of the guitar and out thru the top of the posts with a nut on the top of the post and on the back of the guitar - thatd make it real tight or just buy the thread
  8. Put some realy i mean really thing material over the threads....i dont have any ideas but i know there should be something - you could always swap out the posts with one of you're other guitars - maybe they would be a bit tighter fitting.... why would you need the bridge to be really high? if you want it to stop you are most likely going to have to screw the posts down until they hit the top of the studs hope it all works out
  9. glad you could find it, i knew it was out there somewhere and im glad you found it to lol i want one for my next project id say that playing a lefty trem on a righty would be different but if srv could get used to it so can you. id just go with the traditional right on right as you can see in the pic you can obviously get at the volume pot but you just couldnt do any swells well you could on some things but it may be a bit hard hope this thing works out for you *EDIT* SRVS guitar did have a lefty trem - i thinki it happened when he sent his guitar away for repairs and the guy put a lefty trem on it - dunno why considering ud have to route new holes. *EDIT x 2* lol it looks alot better than the stewmac one lol, that one would be stiff as heel and i think itd fall apart, this one atleast looks like a good solid construction.
  10. soldering is so0o easy, honestly just have a go on some scrap wires and metal like get a bit of metal then drill some holes thru it to make it seem as if it was fork that youd be soldering some wires to onto the pots, just keep having goes at it until you can make the solder job look clean and try and used as little as possible but use enough solder to make the bond strong enough to hold. good luck with the electronics - these ideas that everyone is dishing out sound awesome
  11. danm you are making me jealous, i am thinking of doing something like that for a guitar i wanna make (gibson nighthawk landmark series) maybe an onboard premap so i can get some headphones and run around like a mad jimmy page hope this thing goes as good as it looks
  12. Hi That guitar has some potential.....i would say that you should strip it then get a router with a flush trim bit (bearing on top of straight bit) and redo the cavities, put a binding channel put some cream binding into it... route the cavitiy that has been filled until it is all one depth with the shape of the original cavity and then refill it - professionally this time, get a nice piece of mahoghany and cut it to the exact size and fill the sides with grain filler then make the hole cavity level with the bottom of the guitar and get some filler and go around the edges, then get a sander on to it until it is flush with the body. the fret board looks like it should be removed and replaced with a nice piece of creme bound ebony with abolone dot inlays. i cannot really suggest much else as you havent displayed to many pictures... ^my opinion^ hope all goes well in the restoration
  13. man that is........................awesome...... danm its like every new guitar i see on the forum it makes me jealous Keep up the awesome work......... and keep the pics coming
  14. i had the exact same problem but it wasnt the pickups it was the mounting rings - they were too small.... so when i put the screws in the were on very dangerous angles lol.....so i got some crack/hole filler and taped around the hole and put something on the bottom of the hole and filled it by using a syringe, let it dry and then i re-drilled the holes. lol i was drilling into veneer (not supported by anything) and very close the the edge and those holes have lasted me ever since id say go ahead, i mean but be careful if you are going to
  15. absolutely stunning, that koa really truned out awesome good work
  16. Travelling Riverside Blues Is Page wearing glasses in that photo?!?!?!?!? ← Travelling riverside blues - no way man hed be playing on his vox or fender 12 string - he only played the eds 1275 live - i would have played that thing till it fell apart.......danm thats one mean guitar even the epiphone vrs is awesome and i hate epiphones Page, Glasses - yes looks different hey?
  17. my god.................that is going to be so0o0o0 sexy........ although i dont normally like basses this one is looking fine i think the rule is 1 pic per post no bigger than 640x480 and the rest on links - not sure but keep the pics coming (but use links next time )
  18. this is sounding like one crazy guitar - im digging the idea of a dano lipstik pickup they are just pimp.... the idea of the side mounted pots is cool and all but having to use a screwdriver would suck i mean make it more accessable........make it something you can do with your fingers while not ripping nails off either.... lol in the pic of ure bandsaw look on the top shelf - is that plane sitting flush with the wood, i heard thats not so good for the blade keep the pics coming - even if they are of you're tools
  19. I have never seen one in black either - but there may be a black version of the "Bowen Hanlde" which is similar to the les paul trem from stew mac but it looks better.... i am not sure where you can find one of these either i know they exist though just trying to help
  20. hmmmm...... i never thought about that but, ive taken my neck of my guitar and i can see some of the pieces under the veneer top - well i can see the piece in between both of the cavities and it is just glued to the mahogany... but the ones at the tailpiece.....and the ones around the side i dont know about but if these pieces went into the mahogany and thru the body wouldnt you be able to see the grain differences and wouldnt it add more steps into making the guitar therefore why would a company bother to do it?
  21. what i meant by steaming it off was i would steam the veneer itself off then the underlying pieces would be routed off till i get to the mahogany and then the veneer top would be used as a test for stains and stuff i think it is pine that is underneath it anyways - maybe ill just get some chisels or a plane < - should tear the pine up
  22. LOL ^ LOL ^ i used to love epiphones until i did some work in a shop that sells only gibson + epiphone now i think of them as overpriced planks of veneer + wood anyways nice job with the dye - it has given me some confidence towards my project keep the pics coming
  23. anyone who says yuck about veneers is most likely saying yuck about the fact that there is about 5 or six other pieces under the veneer to support its shape...... im pretty sure thats how it is well atleast on my guitar
  24. Yeah......i have a veneer top les paul which has like pieces to support the venners shape and it sounds pretty good, i am about to remove the veneer - dunno how maybe steam, and going to put a solid top on it, so when i am done i may be able to campare..... although i have played a few good quality les pauls and then mine (greco 1970's les paul bolt on) and they sound very similar..... i dont really think it would matter.................if you had a solid or venner they would most likely sound the same or the difference would be soooo minute..... (my own opinion)
