  1. I was 3 when Camile hit, we left as she came in..... never been back. I'm saying a prayer for you all. I have bad a feeling were going to lose New Orleans..... for a little while anyway (till they pump it back out) It actually looks like the worst in history at the moment. Bigger and as strong as Andrew, Camile was a little stronger, but smaller. This one is a monster, and If the Levy breaks.......Good luck and watch out for the snakes seeking higher ground, I heard they actually killed quite a few people too.
  2. I dont know if he had anything to do with it but I just seen an auction that had Strat spelled Str*t. He seems to be perverting ebay's rules for personal gain. I wonder if you listed a couple thousand dollars worth if ebay would cancell them and lose that commision.
  3. Thats tuff, uping the price after its qoted. Gives you a bad rep. Unless of course you warn them first and still no one seems to ever "trust" you unless they seen it happen. But hey a cheap metal detector, they work in the ground.... wood??? If so depending on the blade price it might be a good investment. You never know if someone nailed a sign to a tree years back, or shot it, etc...
  4. I'm pretty sure its not, But hey its 109 3/4" long and it was free! I'm trying to get my Camera batteries charged up for a couple pics, I'm going to do a Neck through hollow body, Rickenbacker "inspired" maybe in black.
  5. How can I tell if my "mahogany" is neck quality wood? I'm not sure what "kind" it is It is nice looking to me. It was given to me by a Door company, It looks like a few peices glued together, I will have to cut it a little and "re-glue" it so its wide enough and not so thick. Its 2X2 (exact) with a 5/8 square cut out on 1 edge kinda like a Huge corner moulding. I'll try to post a pic later if needed, When I cut and glue it should come out approx 3 3/8 X 1 3x8. They gave me a big enough peice to make 3 necks or so. Im just not sure if its "Neck Wood"....
  6. I have a Milwaukee That the factory bought for me about 15 years ago. No plunge but hey it has brute strength. I know I shouldnt have but I have put end mill in it and routed 3/8"X3/8" channels in solid aluminum with 1 pass..... I figured if it broke they would buy me another. but it didn't and now after years of abuse, no play and its still going strong. I figure my kids will inherit it!
  7. Cool I dont recall seeing one that size
  8. Thats what I was thinking, the Tele seems like the simplest design and parts are all over ebay. Templates, necks, everything. Only thing ... he keeps saying I already have a real Tele (Strat too) I told him good he has something to "compare" his first build to. Then if he likes his work enough try something more demanding. He wants to build a LP but I'm trying to get him not to waste the "nice" wood till his skills improve. I've seen some of his "furniture repair" lol!
  9. My Brother-in-law asked me last night what would be the easiest guitar for him to build ... Tele?
  10. just checked the website and the Rickenbacker solids, (I checked The 200 series like the Glen Frey model) are all maple. just took this line from the site.... "Eastern hardrock Maple is our wood of choice for necks and bodies"
  11. Thanks that helps alot. Hmmm thats a pretty wide one...I did not realize they were that wide. By my figures 15 wide so that would be 18 3/4 tall for the body. Does that sound right? I took a "straight on" pic I found on the net and streched it to 15 wide and 39 3/4 tall then "figured" the measurements. one thing though.... does overall length include the strap button on the bottom?
  12. I would.... Go to the mall t shirt shop and talk to the airbrush guy.
  13. Some hollow body Rickenbackers are all maple. not sure about the solid bodies...
  14. Hey the 230 Glen Frey model Looks cool too! I'll build it if I can find info on it!
  15. Anyone have any plans or any info on building a Rickenbacker 360 or 345 or similar? Maybe point me in the right direction. No music store down here has one. I was going to build a Tele but everyone and their brother has one Thanks JJ
  16. I use the yellow 2" wide lawn tool hanger from lowes about a buck fity, (mis spelled on Porpus) (ha ha little dolphin joke) They work great have a Bass hanging on it that I havent touched in 6 months, My Daughters Strat is hanging on one also. Yes Im cheap..... But hey it works! Just find a stud and screw it in. I always drill a pilot hole and angle the hook just a little to be safe. That bass is heavey............
  17. Yep for sure, Im consisering a 14" wide X 2" square "slide/shim block" made of aluminum under the lift table that has a rail on each side and a threaded rod in the middle so it moves back and forth with the turn of a handle to lift and lower the table evenly. I'm considering nice drawer slides but I'm worried about it getting dust in the bearings. I thought about making grooves but figured it would get cockward on me like the single runner drawers in a cheap dresser.
  18. I threw together a thickness sander today....... it worked! Well sort of, I was 1/16 off over a 11 1/2 inch board. Which was spectacular considering I only used a tape measure to get my sizes and I only used junk I had laying around, like 2" PVC for the sanding drum, plywood from on old table, and a 10 yr old 1/3 hp drill press motor. It was great! And man it made a mess in the shop! dust everywhere! I did It as a test just to see how hard it would be, its simple! So now I'm saving the bucks to build a "real one" I figure an Aluminum drum and table, maybe a 3/4 or 1 hp motor. And definetly a dust collector! Parts at the extreme most 150 bucks for a 16 incher. of course I already have the dust collector parts, pulleys and sanding belts. I just have to figure out a "perfect" height adjustment mechanism..... any ideas?
  19. Ok so a set of two it is, Now for the tuff question, I have never bookmatched anything, can it be done on my table saw then finished up with my band saw? My band saws tracking is not up to par for something of this size without some help. Also never have planed maple with my planer, I was told they leave a less than desirable job with figured wood. Should I attempt it or Would a cabinet shop be my best bet or would they "break the bank"?
  20. I am building a tele. I have a book matched set of nice maple that is 1 1/8 thick, Should I book match these peices and have tops for 2 guitars, or use it for a thick top for 1 guitar? The back was going to be Mahogany but thats still up in the air, I dont want too much of a LP sound, so I'm going to use a maple bolt on neck. Any thoughts? Or shall I ask.... What would you do? Thanks J.J.
  21. Has anyone tried the fender "noisless" tele pickups? I am considering them....
  22. What blade are you using? One of the Diablo style blades with the stabilizing cuts or one of those blades with the brass inserts to stabilize? I'm sure you know that if your blade has any play at all you're going to get a less than flat joint surface out of a table saw, so with that said I'd love to see your jig. Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... ← Jointers don't just joint egdes, they are used to prepare a face of the board (square to an egde) to make thicknessing easier. On larger jointers you can also cut rabets. ← Agreed but the way I do it is: first I plane (in the middle of the planer no edges touching the sides) then move to the "cross cut slide jig" put both peices together in the middle (dead center so the blade cuts both peices) just like the book match, clamp them down and make the pass, since the are not touching the jig any where but the flat i just planed it squares the edge. Without a 300 + dollar tool. that 1 square edge allows me to square the rest if I even bother. Sometimes no need if your cutting out a design and just need the glue joint. funny thing I was reading a online wood magazine a while back (dont remember which) and a survey called "give up your power tools" was taken, Most wood workers said they would give up their jointer over any other tool.
  23. I believe you are the winner. Nicely done. Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... ← The tremelo looks different more like the RGX-312
  24. ← I'll get some pics of it for you, as for the blade its a dewalt fine finish blade, time for a new one though....its a couple years old!
