  1. Dude try ZZsounds, musiciansfriend or music123. Even at GC if either are 700 bucks I'd be surprised.
  2. So I guess I'd need a nielsen one and a spokeshave right?
  3. What's a plane? Please don't say something that flies.
  4. Alright. Should I aim at around 800 watts then? I'll contact the seller for the router when time comes. Thanks!
  5. I hope that this thread could then be sumed up to get something like 'basic starting tools' Now what remains is bandsaw vs jigsaw and manual vs drill press. For accuracy it seems that the bandsaw and drill press win but for facility of use, it's a close call.
  6. Well that's a little list I made so far. It's only for my first electric guitar and doesn't include files, wood glue etc. Just the powertools http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=21362&recno=13 this seems like it'd do it for guitar. I think it has all the features I'd need. That one seems even more attractive http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.js...=72038&id=22602 And that http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.js...=72431&id=49902 I don't think I'd need much more, tool wise. The drill press... Well it's for sidedots and holes only, i guess I can take care of that with a manual drill if I'm very careful? Would this work in case I really need one? http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.js...=72630&id=19847 Yeah I ask too many questions, I'd just rather be 100% sure before investing.

  8. For those of you in Europe or the UK (not that it's different but er... ) and well, even the US if you wish... I can't find any online dealership in Europe for powertools. Right now I have the wood budget which is of 100 pounds (101.4 pounds to be picky but who cares). I was wondering about those who, like I'm about to do, built their own guitar with NO material or tools. How much was it for the tools you bought? And I'm talking the minimum for an electric guitar. I.e router, a couple of files, wood glue, maybe a cheap drill press and a budget but decent bandsaw. My estimates brought the total cost of the guitar at around 350 pounds/500 euros. Does this seem correct to you guys so far?
  9. woaa dude those are retail prices If I recall correctly, both can be had for 400 pretty much at any big retailers. US dollars that is. Maybe there's a 50 bucks difference between the Boss and the Line 6 though.
  10. Woa this looks amazing! Makes me GAS for a Mockingbird haha! How big were the wings you used for it, and how did you determine the neck angle?
  11. Mainly I'm thinking about the neck thru tutorial. It's a rather important one I feel. Now it's closed and the pictures disappeared. I searched the net for another 'how to build a neck thru guitar' but nothing really came up. Could you guys maybe hook me up?
  12. Alright they're on my list, thanks! Sorry for hijacking the thread everyone
  13. When I'll do this project I'll be in Edinburgh, I was only in A'dam for the summer I'll remember that for this winter and later on though, thanks a bunch!
  14. True...it just seemed like the most handy option to be honest, and with the favorable exchange rate... I'm in The Netherlands (Amsterdam) for now but in Edinburgh during most of the year, and I'm French technically But yeah I kinda live here. I think I'll need something thicker anyway for the neck. Just to be sure. I'm not too familiar with scarved joints as well, I'd rather do it all in one piece to be honest.
  15. True... The neck I have at the moment is just 19.5mm thick at the heel (its thickest point). That means I'd have to make the fingerboard thicker if I were to use one of Warmoth's blanks (and seeing the price, I may as well).
  16. 3/4 is about... 2 centimeters right? But I mean even wizard necks who are VERY thin are 21mm at the 12th fret. How is 3/4 enough to do bigger necks? Would you then need to buy 2 slabs and glue them together?
  17. Oh another question: did you drill the string through holes straight down, or at an angle?
  18. HOLY COW! This is friggin' Gorgeous!!! Got me curious about how to do set necks too, it doesn't seem so hard. Dang... that's beautiful...If I may ask, how much was all the wood necessary for it?
  19. You said it yourself dude. It sounds great unplugged. How can a guitar sound great unplugged and like crap plugged in? I still say it's the electronics. If it resonates everywhere in the body (check the headstock too) then I say that the right electronics and pickup can change a lot. Try changing the string gauge for something maybe bigger, playing with the pickups' heights etc...that should change it. If not you got a very weird guitar indeed.
  20. Mhmm good point about the Strat. Worse is I have one too haha! But I really think it's not good to keep the guitar in tune. Ah well for a hardtail it won't matter that much anyway. I think that it'll be a string through. If you don't have a drill press though, is it possible to drill properly at an angle with a manual drill? Or does it pretty much all have to be by eye? I can think of an angle template to use, but I can't see how it'd be 100% accurate unfortunately.
  21. I was just remembering that I'm not too comfortable on TOMs (duh!) and I'm willing to try the hardtail. But for any string through bodies, can you drill the strings' holes straight down? I'm thinking that while it's easy and quick, it unfortunately kinks the strings a lot and makes them more prone to breaking. With a long drill, is there any easy way to drill at a correct angle? I was thinking around 45 degrees down, but that'd require a good angular accuracy and a longer drill. Has anyone done it?
  22. That'd be way better. The pickups will be brighter and less 'processed' by the knobs. I still think they're the problems. You could maybe replace one of the miniswitch by a 3 way? This way there's no need to drill for a blade switch.
  23. Eh buying a guitar is no fun. Assembling is funner, but not my much. Either way, I'd build the whole body, that's for sure. By 'cheap' I meant that if I take the most expensice option, I'd be even more screwed so I'm looking for the solution which makes it easy enough to gain the experience I want, while not making me want to kill myself if I screw it up I wanted to start just with the body first so I could learn how to deal with wood basically. But I've read more and more about how to carve a neck and I feel slightly better about it. I think I'll just do it all. I want to get the most experience and waste the more sweat while still having some room for mistakes. If I just spend it all in expensive stuff I won't have any I think it'll most likely depend on how much I have available. I am totally income less so depending on how much I sell my drum kit for will probably decide on how much I can spend.
  24. 250k pots won't be too good in the guitar. Especially for a bass heavy humer and 2 stacked SCs. I say you need 500K for all pots, with a .44 or 33 cap.
  25. I'll make sure to make use of his services then when I'll be more confident and knowledgable.
