  1. Wow, I'm in Decatur! Wooo! And it looks like you're an Auburn fan. Double-Wooo!
  2. 39 and looking at 40. I celebrated my 33 1/3 birthday. I don't care about my 40th. I will celebrate my 45 birthday, and my 78 too. Notice the trend.
  3. I've seen a lot of strange guitars, but this one takes the cake. I love it and I hate it all at the same time. http://www.musicgadgets.net/2006/12/05/ano...ar-girl-guitar/
  4. I'd like to thank those that have sent me some fresh brass string balls. I really appreciated getting them in the mail. As I mentioned in my last post, 2007 is already off to a good start. I need to get back in touch with the local guitar shop and get the consignment sales in order. But before that happens I need to get a template ready to go into mass production. When things get into high gear, I'll post a link elsewhere to tout my works and such. Thanks again for everyones help in getting old strings and stuff to me!
  5. Great news everyone... On a whim I stopped by one of the better guitar stores in my home town, and I asked them about what they do with all the string balls that they cut off when they change their strings and stuff. After talking to the guy there for a bit and explaining what I use them for, his eyes got really wide... "What do you sell them for?" As it turns out, he was totally mesmerized by a guitar made from a Coke can recently and he couldn't get the guy that made it sell it to him. We made a hand-shake deal on the spot. "I'll set you up with all the balls you need, just make me a deal on one of those guitars!" To top that off... We also talked about setting up a consignment sales possibility there in the store. First things first though. I gotta deliver a cigar box guitar to him. Then I'll move in for the kill with DVD's and CBG's for sale there in the shop. Then I'll get Joe Satriani to play one or something... Gotta advertise. 2007 is going to be a very good year!
  6. Y'all use bananas for thermometers over there? Whatever floats your boat I suppose.
  7. Hey, that is a good idea. I'll look into that. I also thought about looking at some small hex screws at Ace Hardware too. I got to thinking about it and I know that they have some small ones that could probably have a 1/16" hole drilled through them. The beads sound like a better solution though. No drilling in metal required. Thanks!
  8. Thanks Skatz, I'll put them to good use in my Cigar Box Guitars and DVD Box Sets (Cigar Box Guitar Kits). I wonder if there's a way I can make a bulk order of these things direct from the string company? There has to be a source for these things. Any suggestions or interesting Google results people?
  9. Whoa... just read the news. What really kills me about this is that we were both in Alabama. We always talked about meeting up and had actually tried to get a time scheduled. He was only a couple of hours away. I feel like I've been punched in the gut and there's a big hole left there now. Sorry Bill, LK, You'll be missed.
  10. It's hard to believe, but I've gone through my entire stock of brass string balls for my cigar box guitar army. So, all you Floyd players out there, and people changing your strings... If you have a bunch of these little brass string balls laying around, I have need for them. Think of it as recycling and giving those unwanted balls a permanant home in a cigar box guitar where they will continue to make music. Thanks!
  11. I'm an infrequent old timer around here, and if y'all need help I will be more than happy to be deputized and keep things cleaned up around here. Folks tell me I'm pretty neutral and have a fair view of everything, which I take as a huge complement. Anyway, glad to see that some old chums have come back and have mod powers. Drinks all around...
  12. Hey "myguitar", for a first build and that you are a non player, the results are AMAZING. Love the wood choices, and the headstock, and the neck wood. It has a nice flame all around and the oils really make the grain pop out and look 3D. Just amazing. I wish my first build went that well. You're way ahead of most first timers here, but with an instructor helping you along the way, you were able to avoid a lot of the oops-factor that I had to go through. Great work and I hope to see you make more!
  13. Hey everyone, I'm beefing up my website with cigar box guitar goodies in preparation for my advertisement due to start running in the December issue of Acoustic Guitar. I've added a cigar box guitar wallpaper image to the downloads section and thought that some of y'all might like to have a peek, or download it to dress up your computer screens. Here's the link... http://jehle.home.hiwaay.net/downloads.htm I'll be adding more as time goes on, but there's so much more that I need to add to the site... like sound clips of the CBG's and such. Through my dinky 5 watt tube amp, it's dead on Ry Cooder's intro to Crossroads! Really beautiful slide sound! Stay tuned...
  14. Updated the link at the top of the post. Now it points to my site rather than to eBay.
  15. Hey, that's good to hear Spike. I had a lot of fun with the DVD. It's hard to believe that it's been since 2004 that I made Control Freak too. How time flies! Now that should give me another 2 years to work on my NEXT project. Any suggestions everybody? Bill Jehle's Redneck Workshop? Duct Tape, the Guitar, and You?
  16. Hey Spike, I wondered why you didn't get the combo. I shrugged and thought I might need to rewrite the title or description of that listing to make it more obvious... which I probably will. Thanks for getting both of those BTW. You'll get an email for confirmation and stuff when I get home this evening. <edit> I gave you a little refund to bring it down to the combo price. I'm so low on stock right now that I'm waiting for the next shipment to come in for both the DVD's and CD's. Sales have been steadily climbing for both of those recently and my stock got completely wiped out. That's a good thing I guess, but it kills me not to keep those listings going on the Bay. Now it's time to sell those prototypes. Be on the lookout for those very soon.
  17. No clue what happened to the original post here. I seem to be it. How strange.... Anyway... I actually have two old Floyds that date back to the 80's. I don't think I have the locking nuts anymore, but I do have all the tail end stuff. PM me for details and stuff.
  18. I read an artical in a magazine recently that talked about how many of the 70's Jap Strats were made from a local wood there called Sen Ash. It's not a proper Ash at all, but it does have similar wood grain and color. Now, my favorite guitar (that I didn't make that is) just happens to be made of this wood come to find out. I love that guitar for its snappy tone and its ultra light weight. I want to get my hands on some Japanese Sen to build my next creation. The only problem is, I can't find Sen Ash anywhere. Anyone ever hear of this stuff before? Anyone know a source? Thanks!
  19. Actually Mark, I do plan on selling the prototypes featured in the DVD and the CBG that I made in the DVD eventually. The DVD will be sold with them, naturally. Shoot, I've even thought of selling the black Tee shirt that I wore through the whole thing (It's a Gibson Tee with the slogan "The One With The Most Guitars Wins" on the front and a bunch of guitars on the back). I'm not sure who in their right mind would care that it was in the DVD, but it is a cool t-shirt.
  20. Good catch! The Odd Boy appears in a few spots of the video. The whole idea is to show, okay here's an electric guitar... here's an acoustic guitar... now build one of these $20 projects to get your feet wet, then go build that PRS Dragon clone. I don't have the right marketing stategy quite down yet. I still think the idea is very solid: build a simple "toy" first, then build a dream guitar. It's not quite fair to think of them as toys because they are guitars in their own right. Any suggestions from you guys at improving the listing? Thanks.
  21. Here's a slightly altered listing. There's a few screen shots from the video mainly showing the neck work. Guitar Building : The String, Stick, Box Method They are not flying off the shelves quite yet but there does seem to be some interest in what it is. The sound clip is going to come next. Man, this little thing wails. I know that sounds like every other cigar box guitar listing on eBay, but I hate to admit it, they're right. There's nothing that sounds so wonderfull through a Marshall than one of these things. They're downright nasty!
  22. I have thought about making a short commercial for it in the auction. I was so excited when they came in I had to list it as soon as I could. I've already sold my first one! YAY! Not bad for the first draft of the listing. Screenshots, short snippets of video, and pictures of the guitars made on the DVD will probably eventually become part of the listing. Glad you think it's cool!
  23. My new cigar box guitar DVD is out on eBay now. After the amazing success of my 2004 release of the Control Freak CD, this is the follow up in pure homegrown DVD style. I'm so excited I could light my hair on fire and run around waving my arms! Have a peek and let me know what you think! Thanks for the string balls guys. They actually appear in the DVD!!! <edit> Here's an updated link that goes to the store on my site. eBay is great and all, but on my site, they cost a little less, there's a link or two to video clips, and another link for the same DVD for sale on Film Baby (at a substantial savings I might add). BTW, this is a copy of the advert that will appear starting in the December issue of Acustic Guitar. I'm pretty excieted about seeing it in print and hope that the advertising pays off. Feel free to comment on the advert. Enjoy!
