  1. Depending on what pickups are in it you may have more than that in parts lol. I just bought a set of Prs pickups for a build and they are insanely expensive.
  2. Holy crap she seriously demolished that thing! Did you purchase it or are you trying to fix it for him?
  3. I do have a bunch of 1-1/2"X 1-1/2" cauls that I made up, I should have used those now that I'm thinking about it. That would run the whole width of the body which I think would have worked just fine.
  4. Scott, I thought about that. The only reason I went the curved route was because the way the cavities are gonna be laid out if I did a straight shot to them the wiring channel would be running right thru where my pickup rings will be screwed in so I was trying to avoid issues there.
  5. I took a quick look thru google images, this is pretty close to what I was thinking.
  6. Thank you guys! I Will see how this one looks after I get it out of the clamps and routed to shape, fingers crossed that I don't have any gaps!! I think that before I glue any more up I am going to make up a clamping jig out of steel. In my head I think it will work, it would essentially be a big box that I can put the body in and disperse most of the pressure using bottle jacks or car scissor jacks and then use clamps where needed. I just need to go buy a bunch of angle iron.
  7. Wow really? It's the same amount as I used last time and that one ended up just fine but I can tell this one isn't looking anywhere near as that one did, the top wood was a lot softer than this ash so I guess that could have something to do with it. Crap I guess I'm gonna need to go buy more clamps.
  8. I just noticed an hour after originally clamping that I didn't have enough clamps around the back of the body and I had some pretty big seperation in those areas so I shoved some glue down in them with a business card and clamped those areas down, I have no idea if this is going to work or not, I may have just screwed this whole body up. I guess we will see tomorrow when I un clamp it.
  9. I need to keep this one a secret from the lady of the house, I'm waiting on templates for the second build still so I needed something to do so here we go!!! i had some extra walnut laying around from the other build and just bought all of this ash so figured I better do something with it. I couldn't get over to my buddies house to use his planer so I had to do all of this with my router, that really sucks and I hope that I never have to do it again. Body specs, walnut back planed to .750, ash top planed to .500, same shape as my first build. I really like this shape so I think I'm going to use it often and try to perfect it as much as I can I got smart this time and routed my wiring Chanel's before gluing the top on. I'm not sure what I'm going to do wood wise on the neck yet but I'm thinking walnut with a strip of Birdseye maple down the center, thin strips of podauk in between the walnut/maple and a piece of podauk in the scarf joint, all walnut headstock.
  10. I personally haven't done any binding but just doing the math you would be fine. I use inches so, 33.5mm is 1.320, I would get a .375 top that puts you at 1.695 and 1cm binding .400 so you would have .025 binding to scrape down. Your end thickness not thinking of sanding loss would be 1.695 so only .055 less than a standard tele, you could probably make that up In lacquer build up. Being a little thin is just fine, 2 of the guitars I'm building right now is 1.250 body thickness.
  11. I have been think a lot on this subject also and I think that I agree with what pros is saying. On my 2 builds that I have going on right now, my first one while I haven't gone the super cheap route (gotoh tuners, Hipshot bridge, Seymour Duncan pickups, making my own cavity covers, string blocks and odd and ends) I was able to keep the whole total after wood around $500 but on my second build the guy I'm doing it for wanted to spare no expense, expensive wood, prs pickups ($160 a piece wtf?!?), schaller tuners I'm already in the $1000-1100 range. There's no way I could do this on my own dime so I will be buying cheap parts for the future for builds and just upgrading after the guitar is finished, then those parts can be passed onto the next build.
  12. Perfect, I will use only a dab of ca glue to the fretboard then. The nut on my ibanez sz I refinished I glued it to the neck, looks like I'm gonna be hating myself in the future!
  13. The last few times I've bought pots I have used alphas, I would really like to try cts the next few times to see if they are worth double the cost.
  14. I am at a hold on this build for the moment waiting on templates, I have no idea where they are, I ordered them over a week ago and still haven't gotten a confirmation of shipment. But, I have actually just learned to use the fence on another body I started yesterday, I cut my body pieces on the table saw and then clamped them vertically to my fence and sanded them flat using a piece of granit and sand paper! I just thought it was funny reading this this morning after I had just learned to do it lol. Thank y'all for the advice!
  15. I was really worried about this part for some reason, I didn't think I would be able to get the top of the neck completely even with the scarf joint and laminate in the neck, knightro gave me the idea to use a sled on the router table which worked perfectly after sanding a little bit with a piece of granite as a sanding block.
  16. Looks like I'm gonna be having a whole bunch of ash in my next few builds! I found a place here locally that I can get ash for $3/bf but only catch is you have to buy a whole 12 foot board, but I'm totally happy with this because I pretty much got enough to do 3 and 3/4 tops for $28. Last pic is of how much I have left over after the 3 tops.
  17. I was beginning to wonder what was going on with your 2 builds.
  18. Very nice!! I've been wanting to do a multi laminate neck but have been psyching myself out of it every time I go to try. That fretboard is gonna look great! Plan on scarf jointing the neck?
  19. i have no advice to give in that regard but, that's an interesting design.
  20. I'm not sure how it is on a computer but if you're on a Mobil device you can pull it right off your phone and onto the forum. Just click on the spot that says "click to choose files"
  21. Figure out those pics!!! I wanna see some stuff...
  22. With a little help from Facebook I've sorted out my truss rod adjust area, while its not quite as clean as a thumb wheel I'm happy with it and it works. Now I won't need to take off my pickup or loosen strings to adjust the truss rod.
  23. Thanks man!! Got it unclamped today so figured I would take a family photo. I need to do a little leveling on the top and the neck around the scarf joint area. I really wish my templates would come in the mail already! I'm eager to start making shapes.
