  1. I will enter THIS bass, UNLESS I finish THIS bass in time, so I have NO official entry yet.
  2. I would stick someform of rienforcement in a Western Maple neck, maybe the carbon fibre rods INSIDE the neck, so you can keep the look of the flamed Maple.
  3. The super thin stuff would sink into the wood more, and harded it up more, rether then create a hardened layer sitting ontop the wood. I personally would prefer the fingerboard wooditself to be hardened up, not just have a layer the could eventually flake or wear off.
  4. Intersting. I have sorta heard of hardend fretless boards, but though it would be something like after it's radiused, paint the board with fiberglass resin, which is basically really thin epoxy, which will soak in and really harded up the wood, then sand smooth a little bit for a nice polished feel. That's what I would do, especially if using a softer wood for a fretless board.
  5. If we did this would we have one person make the entire neck and one make the entire body, or could we maybe do something like this: one person joins and thicknesses the body blank, another cuts out the design, another does the cavity routing, another does the contouring, and another does finishing (I think finishing should stay in the hands of one person). We could do the same with the neck: Someone thicknesses the neck blank and fingerboard, someone else routs truss rod channel, someone else slots fingerboard (or just get a pre-slotted one), somebody glues the finderboard on, somebody else cuts out the neck/headstock profile, another shapes the neck, another does pegholes and nut slot, another frets it, and another finishes it. Then someone else attaches the enck to the body (Bolt-on would be easiest), then somebody does hardware installation. If we did it this way, lots of people, even amatures/beginners, could have a chance to work on it. What do you guys think?
  6. Okay, so how do we go about organizing it? Maybe come up with the design first - I like erikbojerik's idea of basically a vote for the woods, body/neck/headstock design, hardware electronics, etc. We do need to also figure out who will be doing what and organize getting it shipped to the person.
  7. None of the pics are uploaded to the server for MWCGuitars. If you click on my WWW thing you can see all the pics on the original site.
  8. Thanks for the offer, but I've been having fun making my own website, which is just a free-hosted website. I'm not that serious about having a custom designed site, I want things to cost as little as possible right now. Anyways, my name gets around locally through word of mouth from players who see my instruments in the store and play them in bands, not the internet, so my site doesn't need to look that profesional.
  9. I've been thinking for awhile of changing the name, again, of my guitars. Originally it was Welsh Guitars, after my last name, then Madeira Custom Guitars, but I don't like that anymore, and people had trouble pronouncing Madeira, which means wood in portuguese(sp?) BTW. I am changing it to Matthew Welsh Custom Guitars, or MWCGuitars for short. I am currently transfering my website to the new address, and am thinking of doing a much more professional site layout, maybe even actually try to market and sell the instruments through the site. My WWW thing at the bottom is still my old site, HERE is MWCGuitars so far.
  10. I am aware of that, but Guild stopped manufacturing the Japanese import Madeira line in the 70's, I believe. I actually thought about contacting Fender regarding the name thing, but figured because I called it Madeira CUSTOM Guitars, it was cool. Anyway, I'm changing the name because I don't like it anymore.
  11. NEVERMIND. My townhouse bylaws prohibit me from running a home business.
  12. Looking into it ymself. Found a website with info regarding where I live, here's some quotes from it that I think would apply to me: "Home Occupation Restrictions A home occupation shall satisfy all the following conditions: a. It shall be carried on only by a person or persons resident on the subject lot and no more than one person not resident thereon shall be employed in it. b. It shall meet all Provincial and Federal health and safety requirements and shall produce no public offence or nuisance, whether by noise, vibration, smoke, odour, dust, heat, glare, electrical interference or by any other means. c. Except as provided for in the City Sign Bylaw, no external indication other than a small name plate not exceeding 0.20m2 (2.15 square feet), of the existence of the occupation shall be given, whether by materials, floodlighting, storage of materials, alteration of the appearance of buildings or by any other means." I definatly meet a. I have NO plans to EVER hire anybody to work for me. I'm not sure I meet b. I guess they would go around and ask the neighbours about me. I think my only problem would be "odours" generated by my spray equiptment. Also, I don't know how safe my shop is, maybe I'd want to get a real dust collector, instead of just my shop vacs, before I apply, and organize my setup a bit more, like not have it spreadout over my bedroom and storage room, JUST the storage room. C. is neat. I would legally be able to put a 12" X 24" sign on the outside door of our storage room displaying my company name, which I'm thinking of changing again. I'm thinking of changing it from "Madeira Custom Guitars" to "Matthew Welsh Custom Guitars", or "MWCGuitars" for short.
  13. Yeah, all my fingerboards have been dark so far, so I use 1/16" mild steel welding/brasing rod. Got a couple rods of it from a welding supply store for free. Wish I had gotten aluminum though, it's alot softer, and won't rust.
  14. Sounds like there is a little interest. What would be the perpose of the project though? Regarding selling the guitar: WHO WHERE WHY(Wheres the money go) We would have to organize it really well though: What exactly would be built? Who would do what part? What if two people want to do the neck, etc? We should look at who can do what the best, ie, obtain hardware for the cheapest price, obtain wood for the cheapest price, who has the tools, who has the time, who can build bodies really well, who can build necks really well, who can do nice finishes, inlay, design of guitar, etc.
  15. Anyone here ever been to the MIMF? Anyone here who has been to the MIMF seen the MIMF Bass? What if we did something like that, a guitar most likely, like a Project Guitar Forum Project Guitar? I don't know...does this sight require donations to run? We could make an instrument to sell on ebay maybe to get funds for Project Guitar (if it requires funds). What do you guys think? If we did something like this, I say we do the WHOLE thing, neck + body built from rough wood.
  16. Personnaly I'd use them, they spread the force exerted on the screw out, and they look cool.
  17. All you do is copy and paste the address of the picture, after you remove "members/" from the address, into the IMG button in your posting message menu just above the box you type your message in.
  18. I use THIS. Totally free, not sure if there's a limit to the volume of pictures, but I've got lots in.
  19. Reading your other thread more thouroughly, it may be the wires on the switch suddenly broke loose, which would require a re-solder. We would really have to see the thing in person to be able to help you more, sorry dude.
  20. You say it's brand new, take it back to the store and exchange it. Check: Batteries/AC adaptor Plugged in properly: Guitar OUTPUT - INPUT of pedal, OUTPUT of pedal - AMP INPUT You said you brought it home and it stopped working, I've tried pedals at the store and used SPEAKER cable by accident, other people have probably done this to, and you get messed-up or no sound. I'd say the biggest thing is plugging it in properly.
