  1. Alright, here's the deal. I'm going to attempt to make a Les Paul. Unfortuantley, I'm not able to make the beautiful carved top that is a signature look for the LP. So, to compensate, I'm trying to decide if it would look cooler to stain a piece of flame or quilted maple to use as the front and back of the guitar. Since this is my first from-scratch build, I'd love to hear opinions and suggestions from you guys. I'm thinking of staining it with an ebony stain and lightly sanding it afterwards to get some good defintion of color in the wood grain. Anyway, enough from me. Let me hear your thoughts! Thanks, Steve
  2. Anyone know where I can find a carved maple top for a Les Paul I'm working on? Stew Mac has something that would probably work but it's a bit expensive. Any help is appreicated. Thanks, Steve
  3. Is there any chance that anyone out there might have an unfinished, carved maple top for a Les Paul? Stew Mac sells them but they are pretty expensive so I thought I'd take a chance and check with you guys. Thanks, Steve
  4. Perfect. I just called the supplier and their moisture content ranges between 5%-7% so it sounds like I'll be good to go. Thanks for the replies and the help. Steve
  5. Hi All, I'm going to build a Les Paul and have found a hardwood company that sells Mahogany. My question is this: Is there a dryness rating system or at least specific questions to ask them regarding the wood's dryness? Thanks, Steve
  6. Hi, I'm going to throw myself on the mercy of the forum and ask for what may seem basic help regarding the Gibson Les Paul. I'm going to try to build one and need to know all the specs such as: -Type of wood for body -Type of wood for fretboard -Where to buy pre cut standard Les Paul fret markers -Anything else I'm leaving out Thanks in advance for the help. Long live the forum!! Steve
  7. Let me change this post to be more clear. I'm going to try to cover a Gibson Les Paul headstock in black leather. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for putting the Gibson logo on top of, or maybe in the leather? Any and all thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  8. Can anyone help me find a spec sheet, to-scale CAD drawing for a Gibson Les Paul body? I'd like to try to make my own from scratch but can't find any specs that I can use on a CNC machine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve sscovill@msn.com

  10. Yeah, but they're on eternal back order. That's my problem.
  11. I have ordered one of those from zzounds.com, the problem is...they're backorderd forever on them and I can't find anyone else that has them in stock either. Steve
  12. Hi, Please forgive me posting this in this Forum, but I'm desperate and trying everything... I'm trying to find a child size electric guitar for my daughter's 7th birhday. I thought I'd take a chance and see if any of you guys might have one that I could buy from you. Please email me directly to discuss it at sscovill@msn.com Thanks, Steve

  14. Thanks guys. I simply raised the trem posts about 1.5 turns and it's working fine. Thanks for the suggestions.
  15. Hi, I've got an Ibanez neck that is "fretting out" noticeable on G string at around the 12th fret and beyond. I'm wondering if I'm better off trying to adjust it, or if it would be better to buy a new one. So, if anyone out there has one that is already perfectly set up, fits and RG570 model and is a Wizard or Wizard II, please contact me and let me know what you would want for it. Thanks, Steve sscovill@msn.com
  16. Does anyone happen to have an Ibanez neck, preferrably a Wizard or Wizard II that fits the RG570 body? I'm toying with the idea of trying to set mine up or just buy a new one that is already properly set up. So, if anyone has one, I'd be interested to hear the price. Please contact me directly if possible. Thanks, Steve sscovill@msn.com
  17. Hi all, I'm hoping I can get some help to diagnose and fix a problem I've got with my guitar neck. Once I get down to the 12th fret and beyond, the notes sound "muted" for lack of a better word. I'm assuming that is the way fret noise sounds on those frets, but don't know how to fix it. If anyone can give me some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Steve sscovill@msn.com
  18. Hi, I'm not real familiar with amplifiers and would appreciate some advice. I'm a recreational guitar player and don't need anything super expensive, but I want an amp that has some good distortion and quality built into it. Like I said, it sounds like a basic question, but some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  19. I had a lot of problems swirling my guitar too. I was also using Rustoleum oil based paint, but found that certain colors disipated in the water/borax mixture better than others and you had to find the right consistency of water, borax, paint and thinner. It's much more difficult than it looks. Good luck! Steve
  20. Hi, I'm curious if anyone is interested in an Ibanez GRX20 guitar. I really don't know what it's worth but would be interested to hear any offers. I've done some minor customizing to the pickguard, fretmarkers, knobs and pickups. You can see a photo of it in the gallery section. http://www.projectguitar.com/gal/1w.htm Thanks, Steve
  21. Hi, I've got a complete child-size electric guitar that needs some minor body work (scratches in the wood) and a paint job. It's a no-name brand 1 humbucker style. My son doesn't use it anymore. I'll sell it for $50 including shipping or would trade it for fret marker "sticker" material. Drop me a line if you're interested. Thanks, Steve sscovill@msn.com
  22. Ah...that would make sense then, wouldn't it?
  23. Why can't you just apply the decal under the pick guard whether that is directly on the body or stuck to the underside of the guard?
  24. Hi Guys, I bought a guitar for my son for Christmas off eBay and got a bit hosed. It's a strat style guitar and the pickguard is shot to hell and it's missing the trem bar...dirty rat bastard!! Does anyone have an "extra" strat-style S-S-S pickguard that they don't need that I could maybe buy? Thanks for your time. Steve
